Citrus production in Indonesia and in the world is suffered from disease of citrus vein phloem degeneration (CVPD. It was vectored by psylids (Diaphorina citri). The psylids used citrus plant volatiles as cues for finding their host plants for feeding and laying eggs. Extract of guava leaves was a prospective control material for declaining population of psyllid. Investigation by research was conducted to determine the effect of CVPD symptomatic citrus plants in attracting psylids gravid female for staying and laying eggs, and also to determine the repellency ability of guava shoots to adult psyllids. Citrus buds of healthy plants and CVPD symptomatic plants were exposed to ten gravid female and the number of psylids stay and the number of eggs per bud was recorded. Y-tube olfactometer was used to determine repellent effect of upper shoot, middle shoot, and bottom shoot of guava leave to ten adult psyllids. The result shows that CVPD symptomatic plants was more attractive for laying eggs, eventhough the number of eggs was higher on healthy plants. Repellence effect to psyllids adult was identified in guava leave extracts. The increase of leaf age would decrease the effect. It was suggested that repellent properties was highest youngest leaf or upper shoots of guava.

Total protein describes the liver's ability to synthesize proteins and metabolize substances in the blood. Bovine serum can be used as a control material because the total protein analyte in bovine blood serum is almost identical to the analyte in human serum. The researchers intend to determine the homogeneity and stability of bovine serum with the addition of 7,5% ethylene glycol preservative after being stored for 12 weeks at -20°C as an alternative to control serum for total protein levels. This research used survey analytics using a one-group pretest-posttest research design.  Data analysis used ISO 13528 2005 calculations. From the examination of the total protein level in the serum, the value of Xr – Yr = 0.23817, which is where the value meets the test criteria according to |  Xr - Yr |  <0.36, that is 0.23817 <0.91585. The total protein content of bovine serum was homogeneous and stable with the addition of 7.5% ethylene glycol stored at -20oC for 12 weeks.

Ti6Al4V alloys are the primary materials used for clinical bone regeneration and restoration; however, they are substantially susceptible to biomaterial-related infections. Therefore, in the present work, we applied a controllable and stable oxidative nanopatterning strategy by applying H3PO4, a weaker dissociating acid, as a substitute for H2SO4 in the classical piranha reaction. The results suggest that our method acted as a concomitant platform to develop reproducible diameter-controlled TiO2 nanopores (NPs). Interestingly, our procedure illustrated stable temperature reactions without exothermic responses since the addition of mixture preparation to the nanopatterning reactions. The reactions were carried out for 30 min (NP14), 1 h (NP7), and 2 h (NP36), suggesting the formation of a thin nanopore layer as observed by Raman spectroscopy. Moreover, the antimicrobial activity revealed that NP7 could disrupt active microbial colonization for 2 h and 6 h. The phenotype configuration strikingly showed that NP7 does not alter the cell morphology, thus proposing a disruptive adhesion pathway instead of cellular lysis. Furthermore, preliminary assays suggested an early promoted osteoblasts viability in comparison to the control material. Our work opens a new path for the rationale design of nanobiomaterials with “intelligent surfaces” capable of decreasing microbial adhesion, increasing osteoblast viability, and being scalable for industrial transfer.

This works aims to study morphofunctional changes in the vessels of the oral mucosa during regeneration of a wound defect with and without a polymer membrane. An experiment was carried out on 35 white Wistar rats divided into three groups: control, experimental 1 and experimental 2. To form a wound defect, a flap of the oral mucosa was excised, which was covered by a polymeric piezoelectric membrane in the rats of group 2. Histological examination was carried out on the 3rd, 7th and 12th days: the control material was taken, histological preparations were made according to the standard method. In the lesion focus and surrounding tissues, specific areas and numerical densities of arterioles, venules and capillaries were determined; the pericapillary diffusion index, Kernogan index and arterio-venular ratio were calculated. On the 3rd day, all indicators in all experimental groups did not significantly differ from each other, but had significant differences from the control group. On the 7th day of the study, in the 1st group, the numerical density of open arterioles and venules corresponded to the control group. In group 2, the numerical density of capillaries and altered venules, as well as the index of pericapillary diffusion, significantly differed from the control. On the 12th day of the study, the numerical density of open venules reached control values in the uncoated group. In the 2nd group, all indicators corresponded to the control values.Protection of the wound defect from microbial contamination and re-traumatization, the presence of piezoelectric properties of the membrane under study contributed to a more effective restoration of vessels. This confirms the efficacy of the membrane under study when used as a wound covering.

Purpose: The aim of the presented work was to investigate the impact of the S-P introduction into resin-based composites on their effectiveness against Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis). Design/methodology/approach: Seven experimental composites based on typical matrix were developed. Six of them contained a filler with antimicrobial properties (silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate, S-P), while the control material contained only common reinforcement fillers. The materials were characterized in terms of the dispersion of the extender in the matrix and then subjected to microbiological tests. The efficiency in the reduction of E. faecalis in the microenvironment was tested. Findings: The composites show a satisfactory distribution of fillers and a high initial reduction of bacteria colonies for the tested strain of E. faecalis. The reduction in bacteria colonies achieved for S-P concentrations from 7% to 13% was similar (median value from 99.8 to 99.9%, when for control material and compound with 1% S-P the number of colonies increased compared to positive control. Research limitations/implications: Laboratory test results may differ from in vivo test performance. In addition, there are many models for conducting laboratory antimicrobial efficacy studies, the results of which are also varied. The cytotoxic tests, long-term investigations and in vivo experiments need to be performed in future experiments. Practical implications: E. faecalis is a Gram-positive bacterium that is commonly detected in persistent endodontic infections and may enter the root canal through the coronal part. Development of composites with antimicrobial properties against this bacterium is as important as obtaining efficacy against cariogenic bacteria. Originality/value: The antimicrobial effectiveness against E. faecalis of experimental composites with submicrometer-sized particles of S-P was not investigated until now.
