Abstract: This article presents the relationship between anxiety and fear and the unheimlich concept in the German literature of the Expressionist Decade (1910-1923). The deep crisis of the ego brought about by the inherent instability of this period made the treatment of anxiety especially prolific. Its relevance is clearly shown in Kierkegaard’s text The Concept of Fear, but it also had a great impact on such authors as Alfred Döblin, Georg Heym, Robert Musil or Georg Trakl. Furthermore, the paper focuses on Kafka’s literature as it is paradigmatic of this relationship, to which guilt should be added.

A serendipitous cure in a 73-year-old woman of Hunner’s ulcer, urge, nocturia, apical prolapse by a tissue fixation system tensioned minisling (TFS) which reinforced the cardinal, and uterosacral ligaments (USLs) led us to analyse the relationship between Hunner’s ulcer and known pain conditions associated with USL laxity. The original intention was to cure the “posterior fornix syndrome” (PFS), uterine prolapse, and associated pain and bladder symptoms by USL repair. A speculum inserted preoperatively into the posterior fornix alleviated pain and urge symptoms, by mechanically supporting USLs. Hunner’s ulcer, along with pain and other PFS symptoms were cured by USL repair. The concept of USL laxity causing chronic pelvic pain and bladder problems is not new. It was published in the German literature by Heinrich Martius in 1938 and by Petros in the English literature in 1993. These findings raise important questions. As PFS symptoms are identical with those of interstitial cystitis (IC), are PFS and IC similar conditions? If so, then patients with IC who have a positive speculum test are at least theoretically, potentially curable by USL repair. These questions need to be explored.

ABSTRACTPsychodynanzic counselling is based upon, and informed by, psychoanalytic insights. The origins include the work of Freud, the Post Freudians, and the Object Relations school. These schools of thought embrace concepts of primitive infantile emotions and states of mind that produce overwhelming feelings of anxiety and fear and against which defences are formed to maintain a psychic equilibrium. Although these defences may have roots in the past, changes can only be effected by thinking about their significance in the present. The psychodynamic counsellor attempts to help clients make sense of their current situation by focussing on the actual dynamics of what is happening outside the counselling room with others and inside the counselling room with the counsellor: Thus, repeated and “stuck” ways of being with others are brought to light in tertms of transference and countertransference. In addition, painful and unbearable feelings are shared and contained in the relationship so that clients are more able to reflect upon and understand their own contribution to their present situation and to respond more constructively to that situation.

SummaryChronic Hallucinatory Psychosis (CHP) is typically a French disease entity initially described by G Ballet (1911) and whose diagnostic criteria were established by Pull (1987). This diagnosis is not used in English and German literature. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Pull's criteria for CHP and the criteria for schizophrenia defined by 14 different diagnostic systems and schizoaffective disorders. Seventy-two non-affective psychotic patients (34 men, 38 women), aged 20 to 84, in exacerbated or stabilized phase, were interviewed by the same investigator (SD). The patient distribution between the diagnoses in the different diagnostic systems was carried out using a computerized 208-item checklist. The main results indicated that the definite CHP diagnosis was significantly related to the Catego S + (C = 0.52; P < 0.01), New-Haven, (C = 0.40; P < 0.05) and Schneider (C = 0.54; P < 0.001) systems for schizophrenia and with the depressive-schizoaffective disorder (C =0.39; P < 0.05) in the RDC system. The probable CHP diagnosis was significantly linked with the same systems and with the probable RDC (C = 0.39; P < 0.05) for schizophrenia. These results emphasize that in 13 out of the 14 diagnostic systems, schizophrenic and schizoaffective disorders overlapped with CHP in the French diagnostic system. Among these systems, four schizophrenic diagnoses were significantly linked to CHP. In contrast, the Bleuler system for schizophrenia was not related to CHP at all.

The cinema's developments in lighting, sound and image technology have helped the theatre, and have also allowed its aesthetics to become lighter (Strehler) as well as more complex (Langhoff). Films have originated in plays (not least Louis Malle's Vanya on 42nd Street, which has been accused of wiping away all traces of the theatre, when, in fact, this eradication was part of the staged work itself); and films have passed into plays (for example, Miracle in Milan staged by Zadek in 1993 after De Sica's film). The distinction between text and image, which defined the theatre/cinema split, is far less useful than distinctions between different types of images. The flux of audiovisual, informational and advertising images today has put the relationship between image and truth, as conceived by Bazin in the 1950s, into deep crisis. The theatre film transfers the dialogue between the stage and the audience into a dialogue between theatre and cinema, and is a meeting, rather than a fusion, between these two arts.

Anxiety is an important psychological phenomenon which influences everyone’s life. In other words everyone experience some sort of anxiety in a day to day life. Many people experience anxiety when they speak in front of public. For most people especially, students these feelings of anxiety start before they begin to speak and continue throughout the speech but subside immediately after the speech ends. Some may feel only slightly nervous whereas another may feel faded and nauseated. Like anxiety, fear of negative evaluation also one of an important psychological factors which negatively influences performance of students. With this background, the present study attempted to understand the relationship between these psychological factors of students deeply. A study was done at VIT University-Chennai among 64 students studying in different branches of engineering. Samples of the study are both hostel dwellers and day scholars. Of the 64 students, 33 were female and 31 were male, who were selected through simple random sampling method and survey research design was adopted. The tools used in this study are Fear of Negative Evaluation (FNE; Watson & Friend, 1969) and State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI; Speilberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg& Jacobs, 1983). The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between anxiety and fear of negative evaluation. In other words the fear of negativism and State Trait Anxiety correlated highly positively.
