This article focuses on multiculturalism in the context of present-day societies and the need to incorporate minorities within a reframed social order. In his critical theory, Axel Honneth rightly draws attention to the idea of the moral grammar of struggles for recognition. Analyzing his theory in depth, the article shows that Honneth underestimates the violent power of ideological discourse in marginalizing and excluding society’s others, e.g. cultural minorities. It then puts forward an alternative approach based on Ricœur’s creative and original reflections on ideology and utopia. For the incorporation of cultural minorities to occur, the symbolic order of society needs to be critiqued, transformed and expanded. From this perspective, the author highlights the subversive and transformative strength of utopian counter-narratives. The latter form a vital resource for cultural minorities in their struggle for recognition.

Finalmente, a partir dessa rápida retomada, aprofundo a questão de pertinência da noção de reconhecimento no âmbito da filosofia prática, da filosofia social e da teoria crítica (3).Abstract: The paper aims at presenting the main features of the contemporary debate on Hegel’s concept of recognition. To begin with, we attempt to recover the epistemological context in which the comprehension of intersubjectivity, linked to the notion of recognition, seems to have great influence (1). Secondly, based on the discussion between Robert Pippin and Axel Honneth about neo-Hegelianism in practical philosophy, we investigate the relation between “normative reconstruction” and “sociality of reason” (2). Finally, the paper focuses on the importance of recognition in philosophical branches such as practical philosophy and critical theory.

Reflections on Justice under the Context of GlobalizationThis paper deals with the need to change the way in which we consider justice in connection with globalisation. It analyses injustice in countries with developed capitalism, employing the work of Axel Honneth and Nancy Fraser. The paper highlights the importance of using "critical theory" in relation to developing an acceptable understanding of the term justice, and using "critical theory" in conjunction with Hans Herbert Kögler's "philosophical hermeneutics". In order to adequately investigate contemporary human civilization it is necessary to enrich our knowledge by investigating "civilisational analysis" (Johann P. Arnason).

Even though its focus on emancipation purposefully intends to build upon the intellectual legacy of the Frankfurt School, critical security studies has thus far only interpreted the Frankfurt tradition in a circumscribed manner. That is to say, it selectively drew on some concepts from critical theory that are most associated with Jürgen Habermas and Axel Honneth. However, as a result of this emphasis, Booth and Wyn Jones – the original proponents of critical security studies – give too little attention to thinkers such as Theodor W. Adorno. This article demonstrates that a re-engagement with Adorno’s work not only provides a more complete appraisal of the Frankfurt School’s thought, but also might reinvigorate critical security studies as a ‘critical’ approach to security. It proposes that such a result can be achieved by employing Adorno’s ethics of resistance and through the development of the philosophical construct of a constellation of security.

Axel Honneth gives a new direction for Critical Theory from Frankfrut School. He points out that the theoretical foundation of intersubjective relationship is not merely based on the dimensions of human communication as indicated by Habermas, but also on the recognition dimension. He proposes a shift of normative paradigm from the presuppositions of communicative action to the presuppositions of human identity development. This article summarises some of the main ideas of the critical theory of Honneth. It will describe the theoretical direction taken by Honneth that distinguishes it from Habermas, who later helped to find the problem arresting people into various forms of injustice, a pathology that occurs on the level of rationality, which will be described in the second part of this article. The third part will describe Honneth’s thought about recognition as a moral grammar, followed by a review of the three areas of recognition as a practical basis of critical theory. Some conclusions will be drawn concerning the importance of the small dimensions of recognition in contemporary society.
