The effect of plant growth regulator in early stages of fruit development is to slow or stop the growth of lateral fruits and to cause their early drop. Two commercial plant growth regulator formulations naphthalene-acetamide (NAD) and naphthaleneaceticacid (NAA) were used. The applied doses of plant growth regulator were in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, for Amidthin 100-130 g/hl and Nokad 20-25 ml/hl. The first treatment was applied after full bloom, and the second when central fruit was 9-12 mm in size. The biggest effect on fruit weight and size was recorded on treated Golden Delicious fruits grafted on M 9 rootstock. It was found that minimum number of fruits per branch was on M 9 rootstock. Also, the most pronounced effect of fruit thinning regarding fruit weight and size was on trees grafted on M 9. Results showed that fruits had decreased firmness and increased dry matter content. However, it did not show significant differences in values of iodine - starch test and acid content.

Abstract Experiments were conducted from 1996 through 2001 in Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas to determine peanut response to the commercial plant growth regulator Early Harvest® (a commercial mixture of cytokinin, gibberellic acid, and indole butyric acid). Early Harvest (applied in the seed furrow) or Early Harvest TST (applied as a dry seed treatment) followed by four foliar applications (four-leaf peanut, initial pegging, 14 d after initial pegging, and pod fill), was compared to non-treated peanut in five, 13, and three experiments in these respective states. Early Harvest did not affect pod yield or gross economic value of peanut regardless of location, cultivar, or edaphic and environmental conditions. These data suggest that a spray program consisting of Early Harvest most likely will not improve pod yield or gross economic value of peanut.

Gynura aurantiaca is a colorful foliage plant with creeping stems and velvety purple hairs that cover the green leaves. It grows rapidly, but is cultivated primarily for those attractive purple leaves. Annually during the spring, this plant produces prominent flowers both in appearance and smell, gaudy and malodorous. Flowering coupled with acquiring an over-grown leggy appearance have been key limitations in its production and use in interiorscaping. This study was undertaken to determine if an available commercial plant growth regulator could inhibit flowering. A-Rest (ancymidol), B-Nine (daminozide), Bonzi (paclobutrazol), cycocel (chlormequat chloride) and florel (ethephon) each diluted to three different concentrations were sprayed in two applications in early spring at 2-week intervals. Flowering and bud numbers and plant growth (number of lateral shoots, vine lengths and internode lengths) were recorded. Results indicated that applications of A-Rest, B-Nine, Bonzi and Cycocel, regardless of treatment concentrations, were ineffective in suppressing the flowering of this plant; whereas, florel completely suppressed flowering at the three concentrations used. The florel-treated plants also grew more lateral shoots, which produced a compact and dense bush-look, indicating that appropriate concentrations of florel application not only will stop flowering of purple passion but can also improve and prolong its aesthetic value as a potted or hanging-basket interior plant.

Fruit yields of traditional navels like Washington Navels are lower as compared to other sweet oranges due to low fruit set and quality problems like creasing. Effect of plant growth regulator and Potassium (GA3 and KNO3) alone and in combination were tested in Sargodha, Punjab conditions at full bloom stage of Washington navel oranges. Impact of these treatments was tested on fruit yield, quality and to reduce the physiological disorder; incidence of creasing. Fruit set and yields were increased over non-treated trees, while combine treatment of GA3 and KNO3 (GA3 25% and KNO3 2%) had best results in fruit yields and quality i.e. fruit weight, size, TSS, acidity and other qualitative characteristics of the fruit. Creasing was effectively minimized by spraying plant in combination of GA3 and KNO3, thus reducing the quantitative and qualitative post-harvest fruit losses.

An experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to test the impact of plant growth regulators on growth and yield of summer tomato. The experiment consisted of two tomato varieties viz. BARI Hybrid Tomato-4 and BARI Hybrid Tomato-8 and four types of plant growth regulator (PGR)viz.,(i) control (without PGR), (ii) 4-CPA (4-chlorophenoxy acetic acid), GA3 (gibberellic acid) and 4-CPA +GA3. The two-factor experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The results of the experiment revealed that significant variations were observed for most of the characters studied. At 75 DAT, the tallest plant (79.35 cm), number of flowers and fruits (38.11 and 19.04, respectively) plant-1, individual weight (58.44 g) and fruit yield (22.75 t ha-1) were found in BARI Hybrid Tomato-8.At 75 DAT the maximum plant height (87.90 cm), number of flowers and fruits (49.04 and 21.9, respectively) plant-1, individual fruit weight (61.16 g), and fruit yield (27.28 tha-1) were found when 4-CPA + GA3 applied together, whereas the minimum for these characters were recorded from control plants. In case of combined effect of variety and plant growth regulator, the maximum plant height (87.90 cm), number of flowers and fruits (49.04 and 21.91, respectively) plant-1, individual fruit weight (61.16 g) and fruit yield (27.28 t ha-1) were observed in BARI Hybrid Tomato-8 when treated with 4-CPA + GA3together, and the minimum for all these parameters were found in control plants. The results of the present study suggest thatboth 4-CAP and GA3together can be practiced for increasing summer tomato production for both the varieties.Progressive Agriculture 26:32-37, 2015

Plant growth regulators have a significant impact on increasing both quality and quantity of plant yield for either mixed or separated application. The research was aimed to identify the effect of spraying  plant growth regulators on duku flowers for fruit formation. The research was conducted from December 2014 to May 2015 in Sijacarana Local Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of Propagation, South Sumatra Province in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Timur Regency. Duku tree used was 15 years old with the height around 10 meter. Complete Randomized Design was used with 3 replications where duku trees as the replicates. The spraying  consisted of 3 single plant growth regulator treatments and 6 mixed treatments which were P1 (BAP 300 mg.L-1), P2 (NAA 300 mg.L-1), P3 (GA3 300 mg.L-1), P4 (BAP 100 mg. L-1 + GA3 200 mg.L-1), P5 (BAP 200 mg.L-1 + GA3 100 mg.L-1), P6 (BAP 150 mg.L-1 + GA3 150 mg.L-1), P7 (NAA 100 mg.L-1 + GA3 200 mg.L-1), P8 (NAA 200 mg.L-1 + GA3 100 mg.L-1), P9 (NAA 150 mg.L-1 + GA3 150 mg.L-1). Spraying was applied twice with a half dosage for each application. First application was performed about one month after flowering, and the second was one and a half month after flowering. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and least significance difference at α 5%. The measurement of parameters were carried after harvest or 3 months after treatment. Results showed that plant growth regulator positively affected duku fruit formation. GA3 treatment then was considered as the best treatment as it had a unison in fruit maturity, the highest number of fruit per bunch, weight per fruit and total fruit weight per bunch, and had the lowest number of green fruit and seed per fruit.
