Although the countries of the Western Balkans are mostly electrified, there are still regions which do not have access to the electricity network or where the network capacity is insufficient. For the most part such areas are under special care of the state (i. e. underdeveloped, devastated by war, depopulated), on islands or in mountainous regions. Since the decentralized energy generation covers a broad range of technologies, including many renewable energy technologies that provide small-scale power at sites close to the users, such concept could be of interest for these locations. This paper identifies the areas in Western Balkans where such systems could be applied. Consideration is given to geographical locations as well as possible applications. Wind, hydro, solar photovoltaic, and biomass conversion systems were taken into consideration. Since the renewable energy sources data for Western Balkans region are rather scarce, the intention was to give a survey of the present situation and an estimate of future potential for decentralized energy generation based on renewable energy sources. The decentralized energy generation based on renewable energy sources in Western Balkans will find its niche easier for the users that will produce electricity for their own needs and for the users located in remote rural areas (off-grid applications).

Abstract: DC Microgrid is going to be a very important part of the Distribution system soon. The given circumstances have forced us to find how to utilize renewable energy sources in the integration to increase its reliability in our day-to-day life. This paper gives a good idea of the DC Microgrid and various methods being used for the controlling part of it. As day by day cost incurred in renewable energy generation is decreasing, we need to find out significant parts where this kind of DC Microgrid can be utilized to provide electricity in all parts of the country. Abstract Turkey attaches particular importance to energy generation by renewable energy sources in order to remove negative economic, environmental and social effects caused by fossil resources in energy generation. Renewable energy sources are domestic and do not have any negative effect, such as external dependence in energy and greenhouse gas, caused by fossil resources and which constitute a threat for sustainable economic development. In this respect, the prediction of energy amount to be generated by Renewable Energy (RES) is highly important for Turkey. In this study, a generation forecasting was carried out by Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) methods by utilising the renewable energy generation data between 1965-2019. While it was predicted by ANN that 127.516 TWh energy would be generated in 2023, this amount was estimated to be 45.457 TeraWatt Hour (TWh) by ARIMA (1.1.6) model. The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) was calculated in order to specify the error margin of the forecasting models. This value was determined to be 13.1% by ANN model and 21.9% by ARIMA model. These results suggested that the ANN model provided a more accurate result. It is considered that the conclusions achieved in this study will be useful in energy planning and management.

The main international funds and organizations aimed at sustainable energy development in Africa are described. An analysis of the state and possible options for using renewable energy sources for this purpose in decentralized energy supply through the creation of mini-grids or stand-alone systems is given. The risks by developing renewable energy sources in rural areas and modern mechanisms for financing in solar energy are presented.

In this article, indicators of energy consumption in agriculture for Russian Federation are discussed, starting from the year 1990, and their forecast values for the period up to 2030 with the analysis of the decay in the period from 1991 to 2010 and gradual growth of energy resources consumption started in 2010 and continued to the present day has been analyzed. The outlines of the strategy of rural energy base development and optimization have been considered. Demand, development, and implementation conditions of decentralized energy supply systems have been substantiated, and their features, composition, and application field have been specified. It has been shown that the major energy resource of standalone energy systems is local and renewable energy sources and of agricultural production wastes. Methods and technologies for the conversion of renewable energy sources (RES), biomass, and waste of agricultural production into heat and power have been characterized.

Until recently, the prevailing idea was that for the functioning of the energy system it is necessary to be composed of large plants and for energy to move from the centre of production to cities and places of consumption. With the advent of decentralized energy production systems and new technologies for their use, the original model is changing more and more. EU Directive 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of renewable energy sources (RES) designates “prosumers”, i.e. at the same time both producers and consumers of renewable energy, as well as RES communities, while EU Directive 2019/944 introduced the term “citizen energy communities”, i.e. civil energy communities, provided that this Directive, in addition to the distributive production of electricity from RES, also includes electricity from other sources. EU member states are obliged to adopt their own regulations regarding the implementation of the directives, and after that the appropriate incentive measures. The Energy Communities initiative offers citizens new opportunities in terms of active involvement in energy issues. As they are decentralized RES-based projects, they promote the practice of sustainable energy production and consumption, as well as energy storage and exchange within the community. Traditionally passive consumer becomes an energy “prosumer”, a co-owner of a RES plant and a member of the energy community. There are thousands of so-called RES cooperatives in Europe, which are the most common organizational form of energy communities and can play an important role in the process of decentralization of the energy system. The transition to decentralized energy production has many advantages, namely: the use of local energy sources, increased security of local energy supply, shorter transport distances and reduced losses in energy transmission, encouraging community development and creating local jobs. The purpose of this paper is to bring closer to the general public in Serbia the concept of energy communities, what they are and what their role is, with most of the work dealing with energy communities in the EU.
