This paper aims to examine the current state of dairy cattle farming in Greece, to identify factors that aff ect its profitability, and to analyse the efficiency of farms, using the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. It also assesses the economic viability of dairy cattle farms by quantifying the technical efficiency of their processes, with a view to suggesting measures that may serve to improve competitiveness. Results have shown that the mean technical efficiencies estimated for the CRS and VRS DEA approaches are 0.693 and 0.754 respectively, indicating that 30.7% and 21.6% equiproportional decreases in inputs are feasible, given the level of outputs and the production technology.

The paper provides a new approach to modeling bank efficiency. Unlike previous bank efficiency studies, the present paper employs the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method on quarterly data to construct the efficiency frontiers. The Malaysian banking sector is used for a case study. The results show that the Malaysian banking sector has exhibited the mean technical efficiency of 97.3%, suggesting the minimal input waste of 2.7%. The empirical findings suggest that the pure technical efficiency outweighs the scale efficiency in determining the Malaysian banking sector’s technical efficiency. The results imply that, although the Malaysian banking sector has been efficient in managerial terms, it has been operating at a non-optimal scale of operations.p>

The study aims to measure the technical and intertemporal efficiency and find the primary source of productivity change on top three telecommunication firms in each country of ASEAN-5 (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore) from 2010 to 2016. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) bootstrapping with 2000 iterations, DEA window, and Malmquist index are applied to calculate technical efficiency, intertemporal efficiency, and productivity change. The estimation results elucidate that, on average, the technical efficiency of firms is relatively low. On the opposite, the intertemporal efficiency results indicate that the mean efficiency score of each window is high. However, the LDW and LDP tend to be high, showing that the efficiency scores fluctuate. This paper investigates the performance of Malaysian non-bank financial institutions during the period of 2000-2004. Several efficiency estimates of individual NBFIs are evaluated using the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. The findings suggest that during the period of study, scale inefficiency outweighs pure technical inefficiency in the Malaysian NBFI sector. We find that the merchant banks have exhibited a higher, technical efficiency compared to their peers. The empirical findings suggest that scale efficiency tends to be more sensitive to the exclusion of risk factors, implying that potential economies of scale may be overestimated when risk factors are excluded.

Efficiency is a topic of great interest because its applications are diverse and rich. It is applied greatly in all scientific disciplines, especially accounting for a very large proportion in economics, finance and accounting. The main objective in this paper is to analyze the effectiveness of banks in Vietnam. In order to investigate this issue, there are several implements to examine bank effectiveness where the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method is widely used. This paper presents details of the DEA method. Using the data collected from banks in Vietnam for the period 2014–2017, the approach is executed to investigate issues of technical efficiency, resource analysis and business efficiency of banks in Vietnam.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the technical efficiency and productivity changes in the integrated steel plants in India over a period of five years. Design/methodology/approach Since this evaluation of integrated steel plants needs consideration of multiple input and output factors, data envelopment analysis (DEA) has been employed including bootstrapping (to account for statistical noise) to evaluate the relative efficiency of the steel manufacturing units. The efficiency and Malmquist productivity indices of a sample of ten integrated steel plants producing around 55 percent of the industry’s output were determined for the period 2008-2013. The results of these changes were further categorized according to the management control, route followed to produce crude steel, size and age of these steel plants, for gaining insights. Findings The study finds that private sector steel plants with larger capacity and which have adopted the latest and most modern technologies are more efficient and productive over the study period. Practical implications Public sector steel plants should therefore be provided with more autonomy and delegation of power and should be agiler in responding to market requirements as well as increasing their installed capacities to be competitive in technical efficiency and productivity as well as profitability in the long term to ensure sustainable achievements. Originality/value Productivity changes over time, both with respect to technological and efficiency changes, for the Indian integrated steel plants producing comparable products using DEA.

The aim of the study was assessment of efficiency and productivity of farms in the Lublin province in the years 2014-2016. The analysis was based on the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model oriented on inputs and Malmquist indices with its components. The calculations were made for medium-sized field and dairy farms that continuously collected data for the FADN system during the period under consideration. In our research all efficiency indicators for dairy farms were larger than for field crop farms. In the years 2014-2016, the average technical efficiency of dairy farms was 0.752, which means that in those farms it is possible to reduce inputs on average by 25% and the value of production will remain at the same level. In the case of field crop farms, inputs should be limited by 33%. The applied decomposition of calculated Malmquist indices allowed to define what factors influenced changes in productivity.

A study was conducted to determine the input efficiencies of 43 dairy cattle farms under the aegis of Agricultural Development Cooperative in Erikler Village of Center Town of Kirklareli Province in Western Turkey. Data envelopment analysis was used. The technical, allocative and economical efficiencies were found to be as 0.66, 0.43 and 0.23 respectively. The analysis results showed that only 23.26% of the farms were efficient (they had constant return to scale) regarding the usage of major inputs while the remaining 76.74% had increasing return to scale, indicating that these farms could maintain the current output with decreasing current inputs. The current output (gross production value) per cow could be maintained by saving 46.56, 46.72, 42.96, and 45.20% dry weed (kg), straw (kg), concentrated feed (kg), and labour (hour), respectively along with 39.82% veterinary and 46.73% the other expenses.

Tuberculosis remains a major global health problem and ranks as the second leading cause of death from infectious disease worldwide. Countries devote their budgets to overcome the tuberculosis problem. An efficient use of these budgets will arguably reduce the number of tuberculosis cases and eventually give a positive impact to the economy. This paper aims it aims to estimate the technical efficiency scores of tuberculosis funds on high-burden countries by using Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) method. Further, this study analyzes other environmental factors that are crucial to increase the efficiency scores by using Tobit method. DEA shows that some countries exhibit high efficiency scores while others exhibit low efficiency scores. It also informs how countries use funds to maximize their results. Meanwhile, the Tobit estimation shows that taxing cigarettes and committing budgets to control tobaccos have positive marginal effects on technical efficiency scores.

This study aims to determine the efficiency level of management of zakat funds at the National Zakat Amil Agency (BAZNAS). The author uses the quantitative non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. Total assets, promotion, and documentation costs, and official travel costs as input variables. Whereas the output variance consists of receiving zakat funds and distributing zakat funds. The results showed that BAZNAS experienced efficiency in 2012-2014 and 2017 with a score of 100%. Inefficiencies occurred in 2015 at 79.16% and in 2016 amounted to 98.72%. In 2015-2016, all input variables experienced inefficiency, while the output variable was the only inefficient distribution of zakat funds. In overcoming, inefficiencies can be adjusted between the target and actual quantities specified in the DEA calculation. The author recommends that BAZNAS pay attention to the causes of inefficiency so that it can improve performance better.

Abstract It has long been the subject of empirical researches to examine the technical efficiency on farm (micro) level. Two main methods are most often used in the empirical literature: the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) based on linear programming, and the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) introduced by Aigner, Lovell and Schmidt (1977). The present study aimed to investigate the technical efficiency of farms involved in agricultural activities in Hungary using the DEA-method and the data from the Hungarian FADN database. The technical efficiency was examined based on legal forms, farm size categories and the type of farming between 2001 and 2013.
