Existence of Career Decision Making Difficulty (CDD) is lightly addressed in the career planning and career management body of knowledge. The purpose of this explanatory study was to test the prevalence and the nature of the CDD specifically among the Sri Lankan undergraduates. An explanatory study was carried out with the data of filed survey of 108 valid responses those represent the Sri Lankan universities. The instrument of three facets of CDD [1] was used as the principle measure of responses. Results showed the prevalence of significant level of CDD among undergraduates of Sri Lanka universities. The lack of readiness appears prior to the career decision making process and the great level of CDD is supported by lack of readiness. Lack of information and inconsistent information are too significantly contributing CDD among undergraduates during the career decision making process. Lack of readiness of Sri Lankan undergraduates is mainly due to their dysfunctional belief and general indecisiveness rather than lack of motivation.

Intolerance of uncertainty (IU) refers to the tendency to fear the unknown and to worry excessively about potential future negative outcomes. In the career decision-making process, college students experience uncertainty regarding the future of occupational opportunities and the evolution of their interests and capabilities. Anxiety is a well-established predictor of career indecision. Therefore, this study examined the role of anxiety as a mediator in the relation of IU and rumination to three dimensions of career decision making difficulties among college students ( N = 678). Results of path analyses indicated that as hypothesized, after controlling for age, intolerance of uncertainty was directly and indirectly (though anxiety) related to the three dimensions of career decision making difficulties: lack of readiness, lack of information, and inconsistent information. Results suggested that career choice interventions may be enhanced with a targeted emphasis on coping with the uncertainty involved in career decision making among college students.

The first career interest inventory emerged in the late 1920s. The response options for the questions in the Strong Vocational Interest Blank included ‘like’ and ‘dislike.’ Both answers are emotional reactions. Regrettably, clients within the context of vocational counseling often regard negative feelings (e.g., dislikes) as inconsequential. Yet, negative emotionality can be adaptive and feasibly assist career decision-makers. In the literature on college students’ career development and emotional functioning, there is a paucity of information about how negative emotions advance the career decision-making process and how career decision-makers apply such knowledge. Hence, a sample of undergraduates (n = 256) was recruited to ascertain imaginable adaptive career decision-making benefits from negative affect. Employing a Mixed Methods-Grounded Theory methodology, the present study tabulated the negative emotional reactions of college students to vocations that were self- or computer-reported. In addition, their answers to two investigative questions about the selection of their negative emotions were analyzed. From the data, three negative meta-emotions emerged as reactions to participants’ reported occupations; four adaptive purposes for their selected negative affect were also discovered. A theoretical framework and applicative suggestions from the findings are presented.

The large number of lecturers in Indonesia is clear evidence that there is still a large number of people who choose lecturers as their profession and career. So that the career of a lecturer in a university requires serious and professional management. One of the lecturers' career management processes in tertiary institutions can be done with career management. The purpose of this study has concrete objectives, namely to identify and describe the planning, development and career decision-making processes of lecturers at Muhamamdiyah university in the Covid-19 Pademi Era. The research method used a qualitative approach with a case study design at UM Jember with data collection techniques through interviews, observation and documentation. Lecturer career management at the University of Muhammadiyah during the Covid-19 pandemic includes several stages, namely career planning, career development and career decision making. Each of these stages has an operational process with its own methods and objectives. In lecturer career planning, it is divided into two, namely individual and organizational career planning which consists of several processes, namely the planning phase, the briefing phase, the development phase and the evaluation phase. Of all the stages of career management during the Covid-19 pandemic above, starting from planning, development and decision making, it is not much different from the conditions before the pandemic. But what distinguishes it is in terms of the career development method which in its implementation uses an online system with virtual methods, geogle meet and room zoom.

This meta-analysis examined the association between two types of difficulties in career decision making—indecision and indecisiveness—and four types of self-evaluations: generalized self-efficacy, process-related self-efficacy, content-related self-efficacy, and self-esteem. Analyses were conducted on data from 86 studies ( N = 54,160): Process-related self-efficacy showed stronger negative associations with career indecision than did generalized self-efficacy, content-related self-efficacy, or self-esteem. In contrast, self-esteem showed stronger negative associations with indecisiveness than with career indecision. The second part of this meta-analysis focused on differential associations between two types of self-evaluations (process-related self-efficacy and self-esteem) and the three major clusters of difficulties in career decision making (lack of readiness, lack of information, and inconsistent information). Based on 19 studies ( N = 7,953), the findings showed that process-related self-efficacy was strongly and negatively associated with lack of information and inconsistent information. In contrast, self-esteem was only weakly related to the three major clusters of difficulties in career decision making. In showing that each type of self-evaluation was more strongly associated with certain types and causes of difficulties in career decision making, the present article highlighted the importance of self-evaluations in the career decision-making process.
