Incomplete Cauchy-type problems are considered for linear multi-term equations solved with respect to the highest derivative in Banach spaces with fractional Riemann–Liouville derivatives and with linear closed operators at them. Some new existence and uniqueness theorems for solutions are presented explicitly and the analyticity of the solutions of the homogeneous equations are also shown. The asymmetry of the Cauchy-type problem under study is expressed in the presence of a so-called defect, which shows the number of lower-order initial conditions that should not be set when setting the problem. As applications, our abstract results are used in the study of a class of initial-boundary value problems for multi-term equations with Riemann–Liouville derivatives in time and with polynomials of a self-adjoint elliptic differential operator with respect to spatial variables.

The development of operator theory is stimulated by the need to solve problems emerging from several fields in mathematics and physics. At the present time, this theory has wide applications in the study of non-linear differential equations, in linear transport theory, in the theory of diffraction of acoustic and electromagnetic waves, in the theory of scattering and of inverse scattering, among others. In our work, we use the computer algebra system Mathematica to implement, for the first time on a computer, analytical algorithms developed by us and others within operator theory. The main goal of this paper is to present new operator theory algorithms related to Cauchy type singular integrals, defined in the unit circle. The design of these algorithms was focused on the possibility of implementing on a computer all the extensive symbolic and numeric calculations present in the algorithms. Several nontrivial examples computed with the algorithms are presented. The corresponding source code of the algorithms has been made available as a supplement to the online edition of this article.

This paper is devoted to explicit and numerical solutions to linear fractional q-difference equations and the Cauchy type problem associated with the Riemann-Liouville fractional q-derivative in q-calculus. The approaches based on the reduction to Volterra q-integral equations, on compositional relations, and on operational calculus are presented to give explicit solutions to linear q-difference equations. For simplicity, we give results involving fractional q-difference equations of real order a > 0 and given real numbers in q-calculus. Numerical treatment of fractional q-difference equations is also investigated. Finally, some examples are provided to illustrate our main results in each subsection.

Herein, a miscellaneous contact problem of the theory of elasticity in the upper half-plane is considered. The boundary is a real semi-axis separated into four parts, on each of which the boundary conditions are set for the real or imaginary part of two desired analytical functions. Using new unknown functions, the problem is reduced to an inhomogeneous Riemann boundary value problem with a piecewise constant 2 × 2 matrix and four singular points. A differential equation of the Fuchs class with four singular points is constructed, the residue matrices of which are found by the logarithm method of the product of matrices. The single solution of the problem is represented in terms of Cauchy-type integrals when the solvability condition is met.

AbstractIn this paper, we first give the definition of Teodorescu operator related to the $\mathcal{N}$ N matrix operator and discuss a series of properties of this operator, such as uniform boundedness, Hölder continuity and so on. Then we propose the Riemann boundary value problem related to the $\mathcal{N}$ N matrix operator. Finally, using the intimate relationship of the corresponding Cauchy-type integral between the $\mathcal{N}$ N matrix operator and the time-harmonic Maxwell equations, we investigate the Riemann boundary value problem related to the time-harmonic Maxwell equations and obtain the integral representation of the solution.

This paper solves the frictionless receding contact problem between a graded and a homogeneous elastic layer due to a flat-ended rigid indenter. Although its Poisson’s ratio is kept as a constant, the shear modulus in the graded layer is assumed to exponentially vary along the thickness direction. The primary goal of this study is to investigate the functional dependence of both contact pressures and the extent of receding contact on the mechanical and geometric properties. For verification and validation purposes, both theoretical analysis and finite element modelings are conducted. In the analytical formulation, governing equations and boundary conditions of the double contact problem are converted into dual singular integral equations of Cauchy type with the help of Fourier integral transforms. In view of the drastically different singularity behavior of the stationary and receding contact pressures, Gauss–Chebyshev quadratures and collocations of both the first and the second kinds have to be jointly used to transform the dual singular integral equations into an algebraic system. As the resultant algebraic equations are nonlinear with respect to the extent of receding contact, an iterative algorithm based on the method of steepest descent is further developed. The semianalytical results are extensively verified and validated with those obtained from the graded finite element method, whose implementation details are also given for easy reference. Results from both approaches reveal that the property gradation, indenter width, and thickness ratio all play significant roles in the determination of both contact pressures and the receding contact extent. An appropriate combination of these parameters is able to tailor the double contact properties as desired.

The methods for constructing solutions to integro-differential equations of the Volterra type are considered. The equations are related to fractional conformable derivatives. Explicit solutions of homogeneous and inhomogeneous equations are constructed, and a Cauchy-type problem is studied. It should be noted that the considered method is based on the construction of normalized systems of functions with respect to a differential operator of fractional order.
