AbstractThe first part of this paper complements previous results on characterization of polynomials of least deviation from zero in Sobolev p-norm ($$1<p<\infty $$ 1 < p < ∞ ) for the case $$p=1$$ p = 1 . Some relevant examples are indicated. The second part deals with the location of zeros of polynomials of least deviation in discrete Sobolev p-norm. The asymptotic distribution of zeros is established on general conditions. Under some order restriction in the discrete part, we prove that the n-th polynomial of least deviation has at least $$n-\mathbf {d}^*$$ n - d ∗ zeros on the convex hull of the support of the measure, where $$\mathbf {d}^*$$ d ∗ denotes the number of terms in the discrete part.

AbstractThe elementary fractional-order models are the extension of first and second order models which have been widely used in various engineering fields. Some important properties of commensurate or a few particular kinds of non-commensurate elementary fractional-order transfer functions have already been discussed in the existing studies. However, most of them are only available for one particular kind elementary fractional-order system. In this paper, the stability and resonance analysis of a general kind non-commensurate elementary fractional-order system is presented. The commensurate-order restriction is fully released. Firstly, based on Nyquist’s Theorem, the stability conditions are explored in details under different conditions, namely different combinations of pseudo-damping (ζ) factor values and order parameters. Then, resonance conditions are established in terms of frequency behaviors. At last, an example is given to show the stable and resonant regions of the studied systems.

The study argues that in focus-sensitive why-questions in Japanese, why must precede its focus associate. It is proposed that this word order restriction follows if the why-as-CPmodifier approach is applied to the Japanese construction under investigation. It also reports the results of the elicitation experiment conducted to experimentally confirm the word order restriction.

Abstract Over the past few years, the comprehensive study of syntactic variation across both the Germanic and the Romance branches of languages in relation to the unmarked word order pattern has meant a more in-depth knowledge of the nature of the verb-second phenomenon – an extremely intricate typological concept because of the complex factors that give rise to such a word order restriction. The aim of this paper is to investigate word order phenomena in the Asturian language (Romance, Western Iberian: Spain) from a comparative perspective1 by examining the word order patterns found in a number of documents written over the course of two centuries, with a view to determining what constitutes the unmarked word order and gaining a better understanding of its core syntax. Such a study has entailed collating research on the verb-first, verb-second and subject-verb-object orders. Finally, it aims to shed more light on the evolutionary development of the Romance languages.
