Performing music or singing together provides people with great pleasure. But if you are deaf (or hard of hearing) it is not always possible to listen to other musicians while trying to sing or play an instrument. It can be particularly difficult to perceive different musical pitches with a hearing aid or other hearing-assistance device. However, the human body can transmit musical sounds to the brain when vibrations are applied to the skin. In other words, we can feel music. Our research has identified a safe way for deaf people to hear musical notes through the skin of their hands and feet. We have shown that vibration allows people to safely feel music on the skin. This approach allows people to identify a musical note as being higher or lower in pitch than other notes, and it helps musicians to play music together.

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to this issue of the Proceedings of the ACM on Human-Computer Interaction, the second to focus on the contributions from the research community Interactive Surfaces and Spaces (ISS). Interactive Surfaces and Spaces increasingly pervade our everyday life, appearing in various sizes, shapes, and application contexts, offering a rich variety of ways to interact. This diverse research community explores the design, development, and use of new and emerging interactive surface technologies and interactive spaces. The call for articles for this issue on ISS attracted 77 submissions, from all over the world. This issue has 23 papers, 4 submitted in February 2021 and 19 submitted in July 2021. After the winter round, 4 (total of 19 articles, 21.1%) articles were accepted and 5 (26.3%) articles required major revisions. After the summer round, 19 (total of 58 articles, 32.8%) articles were accepted, and 18 (31,0%) articles required major revisions. The editorial committee worked hard over the two iterations of the review process, winter and summer rounds, to arrive at final decisions. In total, counting both the winter and the summer rounds, 23 articles (total of 77 articles, 29.9%) were accepted. All authors of the accepted articles are invited to present at the ISS conference from November 14--17, 2021. This issue exists because of the dedicated volunteer effort of 31 senior editors who served as Associate Chairs (ACs), 105 expert reviewers in the winter round, and 206 expert reviewers in the summer round to ensure high quality and insightful reviews for all articles. Reviewers and committee members were kept constant for papers that submitted to both rounds. The Editorial Board is presented here: https://iss.acm.org/2021/organization/editorial_board

It is our great pleasure to introduce the Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Renewable Energy and Materials Technology (ICOREMT 2021), held at Erbil, Iraq, from the 2nd to the 3rd of August 2021. The core aim of ICOREMT-2021 has always been to bring together early-career researchers, scientists, academics, engineers, and postgraduate students to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of science, technology, and engineering. Accordingly, the professional keynote speakers and researchers have presented various perspectives on research. All submitted papers were have gone through an initial assessment by the editors of ICOREMT-2021 before sending them for reviewers. The latter were carefully selected from many countries to ensure reliable outcomes. The committee of STEPS-2020 followed an accurate and professional double-blind peer-reviewing process that involved 223 reviewers from all over the world. In total, 272 papers were submitted to ICOREMT-2021; 22 were rejected during the initial assessment process, and 56 papers were accepted (acceptance rate of 20.59%). The accepted papers demonstrated novel ideas and impressive effort in engineering science and technology. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all individuals, authors, editors, reviewers, and committees of ICOREMT-2021 who have contributed to ICOREMT-2021. Without their support, it would not have been possible to make ICOREMT-2021 a successful event in this challenging time. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our partner, Tikrit University, Iraq. Without their support, it would not have been possible to host such a successful international event. Warmest regards, STEPS Team List of Editors and Scientific Committee are available in this pdf.

Abstract It is a great pleasure and honor for us as the Organizing Committee to welcome all of you to the 5th International Conference on Rebuilding Place (ICRP). The conference is held online from September 15 to 16, 2021, and hosted by the Department of Architecture and Planning, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Chulalongkorn University, and Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITeRA). It was initially planned for 2020 in Banda Aceh, but the outbreak of Covid-19 has forced us to reschedule and shifted online. This year, the conference takes the opportunity to promote the central theme Rethinking Sustainable Environment in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The keynote speakers are Prof. Susan Roaf from Heriot-Watt University and Dr. Matthew Rofe from the University of South Australia. Invited speakers are Prof. TPr, Dr. Jamalunlaili Abdullah from Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam, Malaysia, Assoc. Prof. Muna Hanim binti Abdul Samad from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Dr. Surapong Lertsithichai from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and Dr. Laina Hilmasari from Universitas Syiah Kuala. The keynote and invited speakers have 30 minutes each to share insights on the theme, followed by a questions and answers (Q&A) session.
