Abstract Powdery mildew (PM) is one of the most severe fungal diseases of cucumber that limits its production worldwide. In this study, 140 genotypes of cucumber were screened for disease resistance under field and artificial conditions, and then validated with eight known SSR markers linked to PM resistance. Among these genotypes, genotype GS140 was found resistant (R), whereas GS148, GS16 and GS70 were moderately resistant, and GS169 was found to be tolerant. Of all the eight markers, only C31, C80, C162, SSR16472 and SSR16881 amplified the reported linked allele. The 127 bp allele of SSR16881 was found to be associated with the lowest disease severity of 37.65%. The associated markers could further be verified for their usability using linkage studies and the contrast genotypes in the present study could serve as a tool for selection in future marker-assisted selection breeding strategies for PM resistance.

Com o objetivo de avaliar o potencial de produção de pepino para conserva, foi conduzido um experimento em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com três cultivares e dois manejos, adotando-se quatro repetições. As parcelas foram distribuídas em quatro linhas de plantio, via semeadura direta, com espaçamento de 1,50 m × 0,45 m entre plantas. Adotou-se dois manejos: manejo 1) sem desbrota e sem poda apical; manejo 2) com desbrota e com poda apical. Após 70 dias de plantio, avaliou-se massa fresca total de frutos por planta, número médio de frutos por planta e produtividade. Entre as cultivares, destacaram-se Marinda e Amour F1 para o manejo 1, com rendimentos de massa fresca total de 1762,75 g e 1026,71 g respectivamente, e 135,69 e 79,62 número médio de frutos por planta. No manejo 2, as cultivares Marinda e Eureka obtiveram melhor rendimento, sendo a massa fresca total 1966,94 g e 1605,31 g respectivamente, e 146,17 e 90,09 número médio de frutos por planta. A cultivar Marinda tanto para o manejo 1 quanto para o manejo 2 foi a que obteve a melhor produtividade. Entre as cultivares testadas, sugere-se o cultivo das cultivares Marinda e Eureka associada à poda e capação apical.

To assess the combining ability for quantitative and qualitative traits in cucumber a full diallel set of 7 parents and their 42 F1’s was evaluated at Horticultural Research Centre, Department of Horticulture, H.N.B. Garhwal University, Srinagar (Garhwal), Uttarakhand, India during 2015 and 2016. The mean sum of squares due to general combining ability (GCA) was of significant differences at 1 % level for almost all the characters. The variance due to specific combining ability (SCA) was found highly significant at 1 % level for almost all the characters. Results from general combining ability studies revealed that the parent, New Manipur-1 showed significant GCA effect in desired direction for maximum characters viz., length of vine, days to first fruit harvest and number of fruits per vine. The cross combinations, Seven Star x New Manipur-1 for length of vine, Swarna Purna x Seven Star for days to first fruit harvest; K-90 x Seven Star for number of fruits per vine and the cross PB-Naveen x Swarna Purna for total fruit yield per vine showed significant SCA effect in desired direction and found to be superior specific cross combinations. The intensity of sex expression is important in crops, including cucumber, since sex form and flowering have direct effects on date of harvesting and yield. Two groups of cucumber comprising a native variety (Odukpani) and elite varieties (Griffaton, Poinsett, Ashley, Marketmore and Monarch) were evaluated in 2015 and 2016 cropping seasons at the Teaching and Research Farm, College of Agriculture, Garkawa, Plateau State; to assess flowering, sex expression and some yield traits. The experimental design was randomized complete block design with the 6 cucumber varieties as the treatments, replicated five times. The two groups differed significantly (p < 0.05) in phonological, flowering and yield traits assessed. The elite varieties were superior with respect to flowering traits, as they flowered early. The intra-population hierarchical cluster analysis of quantitative traits grouped the elite varieties in one main cluster and the native variety (Odukpani) alienated as an outlier. The cluster plots showed that Odukpani was robust in vegetative growth, produced few but larger fruit size and flowering was delayed for over two weeks. Conversely, the elite varieties flowered early, produced more flowers and recorded superior number of fruits per plant. The profuse production of pistillate flowers by the elite varieties had pronounced yield advantage over the local variety. Hybridization between the two groups of cucumber would make a mark in the drive for sustainable cucumber fruit yield.

Kulit wajah adalah bagian utama tubuh, yang memperlihatkan kesehatan seseorang. Kulit wajah yang terlihat kusam dapat disebabkan karena berbagai macam faktor, salah satunya yaitu adanya penumpukkan sel kulit mati. Salah satu exfoliate cleanser dalam kategori bahan pembersih dan sebagai penghalus kulit disebut scrub. Penggunaan scrub secara teratur menjadikan kulit tampak halus karena sel kulit mati yang terangkat sehingga mengekspos sel-sel kulit baru. Ampas kelapa memiliki kandungan serat kasar 15,07 % dengan adanya kandungan serat kasar maka ampas kelapa dapat dijadikan scrub yang memiliki butir kasar sehingga dapat mengangkat sel kulit mati. Mentimun merupakan salah satu tanaman yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan karena adanya kandungan senyawa golongan fenolik seperti flavonoid dan asam fenolat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan formulasi gel face scrub ekstrak Mentimun dengan ampas kelapa dan dilanjut dengan evaluasi stabilitas fisik. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah stabilitas dipercepat yang dilakukan selama 3 bulan penyimpanan dalam tiga keadaan yakni suhu ruang, dibawah sinar matahari, dan suhu 40ºC. Hasil pengujian  stabilitas fisik sediaan gel face scrub ekstrak Cucumis sativus.,L dan ampas kelapa yaitu pada pengujian organoleptik berbentuk gel, tidak berbau, dan berwarna bening putih. Hasil nilai pH dan nilai viskositas membuktikan bahwa sesuai dengan parameter masing-masing, kemudian hasil tersebut dilanjutkan pengolahan data statistik menggunakan ANOVA Post Hoc Test. Kesimpulan yang didapat yaitu sediaan gel face scrub ekstrak Cucumis sativus.,L dan ampas kelapa stabil pada suhu ruang, dibawah sinar matahari, dan pada suhu 40ºC
