Abstract Background: While suicide among adolescents has emerged as a significant social problem, few studies have examined the relationship between changes in suicide methods and suicide success following multiple attempts. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between changing suicide methods and successful suicide among adolescents after repeated attempts. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the psychiatric history of patients (n=227) between 10 and 18 years of age who visited a pediatric emergency center between January 2007 and February 2021 for suicide attempts. Results: Out of a total of 227 patients, 80 achieved successful suicide attempts, including emergency hospitalization or death. A significant association was observed between successful suicide in patients with multiple attempts who chose drug intoxication (DI) as the index method (p=0.010) and patients with multiple attempts who chose DI as a suicide method (p=0.001). No statistically significant outcomes for changing methods and number of suicide attempts were evident. Conclusions: This study emphasizes the importance of identifying index methods as well as suicide methods among adolescent patients with multiple suicide attempts. This study identified predictors affecting the successful suicide of adolescents. Identifying the index method and the changed method among adolescent patients with multiple suicide attempts are significant predictors of successful suicide. Identifying the index method and changed method of suicide is expected to help in interviewing adolescents with multiple suicide attempts.

Abstract Three experiments (Exp.) were conducted to determine and compare the digestibility of nutrients and energy of corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) from the US (USDDGS), a dried mixture of corn bran with solubles (CBS) from Brazil (BRCBS), and high protein corn distillers dried grains (HP-DDG) from the US (USHPDG) and Brazil (BRHPDG) in growing pigs. The feed ingredients were evaluated for apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of gross energy (GE), dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), neutral and acid detergent fiber (NDF and ADF, respectively), digestible and metabolizable energy (DE and ME, respectively) using total collection and index methods in Exp. 1; ATTD and standardized total tract digestibility (STTD) of phosphorus (P) in Exp. 2; and apparent (AID) and standardized (SID) ileal digestibilities of CP and amino acids (AA) in Exp. 3. Fifty crossbred barrows (32.4 ± 6.9 kg, 38.3 ± 5.2 kg and 46.2 ± 5.3 kg BW, in Exp. 1, 2 and 3, respectively) were fed a corn basal diet in Exp. 1, a P-free diet in Exp. 2, and a N-free diet in Exp. 3, or diets with 40% inclusion of test ingredients to provide 10 replications per treatment. Pigs were housed individually in metabolism cages (Exp. 1) or in pens (Exp. 2 and 3) and fed at 2.8 times the maintenance DE requirement (110 kcal / kg BW 0.75) based on their BW at the beginning of each experiment. Except for ATTD of NDF, which tended (P = 0.058) to be greater by index method compared to total collection method, no difference between total collection and index methods were observed for ATTD of remaining nutrients and DE. The ATTD of DM, GE, NDF and DE content of BRHPDG were greater (P < 0.001) than USHPDG, BRCBS and USDDGS. The AID of CP, Arg, His, Ile, Leu, Lys, Thr and Val; and the SID of His, Leu, Lys, and Val of BRHPDG were 8 to 36% greater (P < 0.05) than those from USHPDG. Except for Trp, all AID and SID AA values were greater (P < 0.05) in BRHPDG than in USHPDG. The ATTD of DM, GE, NDF, and ADF; DE and ME content; AID of CP, Arg, Ileu, Leu, Phe, Thr, and Trp; and SID of CP, Arg, Phe, and Thr of USDDGS were 9 to 45% greater (P < 0.05) than those in BRCBS. The ATTD and the STTD of P in USHPDG and USDDGS were 26 to 42% greater (P < 0.05) compared with BRHPDG and BRCBS. In conclusion, BRHPDG had a greater digestibility of energy and most AA than USHPDG, while the BRCBS evaluated had lower nutritional value than the USDDGS source.

AbstractWe use coarse index methods to prove that the Landau Hamiltonian on the hyperbolic half-plane, and even on much more general imperfect half-spaces, has no spectral gaps. Thus the edge states of hyperbolic quantum Hall Hamiltonians completely fill up the gaps between Landau levels, just like those of the Euclidean counterparts.

The article discusses the theoretical and practical issues of using the index method when conducting statistical monitoring of money circulation. The essence and basic concepts of monetary circulation in Ukraine are disclosed.  It was found that cash flows and the amount of money in the economic system act as an important regulator of material production and all economic processes, which made it possible to build and characterize two- and three-factor deterministic GDP models for 2019‒2020. For this purpose, such indicators of monetary circulation as the average annual size of the money supply, cash, and the share of cash in the money supply, the speed of money supply and the speed of cash are calculated. For each model, an algorithm for assessing the impact of these indicators on the absolute change in Ukraine’s GDP by index methods of chain substitutions and the isolated influence of factors is presented and implemented. The advantages and disadvantages of index methods are shown both from the point of view of statistical calculations and from the point of view of economic concepts of money circulation. Calculations show that the growth of the money supply has a positive effect on the dynamics of the country’s GDP in 2020, and the rate indicators, on the contrary, reduce the GDP growth. In modern studies of monetary circulation, it is advisable to use the index method to identify the isolated influence of factors on the absolute growth of Ukraine’s GDP. The same method allows us to reveal how the effect of interaction between the rate of turnover of the money supply and its volume is distributed, depending on their separate influence. With this approach, each factor is provided with the same calculation conditions, the results do not depend on the economic nature of indicators and the order of their location in the original GDP model, there are no contradictions to the economic postulates of monetary circulation, although the problems of choosing a research method and its justification are still open.
