Existence of Upper-Silesian ethic minority has been confirmed by two national censuses carried out in the years 2002 and 2011. It is also the largest minority residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland. However, the Polish state does not recognize the existence of Upper Silesians in legal terms. At the same time, for Upper Silesians themselves the struggle for recognition of their culture, language and community is a serious matter. In the present article the author discusses the role of creating and strengthening Upper-Silesian community played by culture, especially by literature and literary translation.

The primary objective of this article is to shift a few hypotheses on the relationship between religion and nation. In the beginning of the article I present the interrelations between a religion and a nation being analyzed in the literature while trying to answer the question why nations need religion. Next, I present the role and importance of Orthodox Church in Poland, being the criterion of ethnicity affiliation for Belarusian national minority in Poland, particularly in the Podlaskie Voivodeship as the main area of residence for this community. In the nearest perspective, the Orthodox religion is likely to play a significant part in the process of forming Polish multi-ethnic and multinational creative society.

The article refers to social and economic issues of Roma minority in Poland. Large groups ofRoma that live in our country – especially in the cities – are marginalized because of theirculture dissimilarity and because they cannot find their place in actual political and economicsituation. The reason, but also the effect, of such situation is explained by low level ofeducation in Poland. Authors reckon that one of the conditions of information society’s growthis necessity to support their enterprising attitudes. Following this thesis, the authors believe, that supporting lower developed groups, which don’t keep up with actual pace of economicgrowth, is necessary to minimize the social and economic exclusion of these groups and tolimit social anxieties and clashes. On the example of Roma ethic minority group authors characterized the problems of thesegroups on a labor market, ways of fighting against them and showed the perspectives ofprogress of these groups in future by building enterprising attitudes.
