Enhanced data security and privacy are one of the major concerns in today’s digital society. The role of Primes towards the enhancements of data security and privacy is undeniable. Though several prime generations were presented, yet a cost effective and an easy to implement generation of Prime sequence should always have an advantage targeting real life applications. Hence, prime sequence generation using Cellular Automata (CA) is presented in this article as CA based modelling are easy to implement at the cost of flip-flops. The main contribution of this research is to explore the natural sequence of primes (i.e., primes A000040) with a special class of group CA, at fixed boundary environment; which may potentially be used as a Prime source towards the enhancements of data security and privacy. Experimental results confirm that the first 50 members of A000040 series may be explored at automata size 8 only. Detailed investigations towards the CA configuration and its dynamics in view of the generation of prime A000040 sequence, are also presented in this article.

Entropy estimation faces numerous challenges when applied to various real-world problems. Our interest is in divergence and entropy estimation algorithms which are capable of rapid estimation for natural sequence data such as human and synthetic languages. This typically requires a large amount of data; however, we propose a new approach which is based on a new rank-based analytic Zipf–Mandelbrot–Li probabilistic model. Unlike previous approaches, which do not consider the nature of the probability distribution in relation to language; here, we introduce a novel analytic Zipfian model which includes linguistic constraints. This provides more accurate distributions for natural sequences such as natural or synthetic emergent languages. Results are given which indicates the performance of the proposed ZML model. We derive an entropy estimation method which incorporates the linguistic constraint-based Zipf–Mandelbrot–Li into a new non-equiprobable coincidence counting algorithm which is shown to be effective for tasks such as entropy rate estimation with limited data.

This paper addresses the problem of unsupervised video summarization. Video summarization helps people browse large-scale videos easily with a summary from the selected frames of the video. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised video summarization method with piecewise linear interpolation (Interp-SUM). Our method aims to improve summarization performance and generate a natural sequence of keyframes with predicting importance scores of each frame utilizing the interpolation method. To train the video summarization network, we exploit a reinforcement learning-based framework with an explicit reward function. We employ the objective function of the exploring under-appreciated reward method for training efficiently. In addition, we present a modified reconstruction loss to promote the representativeness of the summary. We evaluate the proposed method on two datasets, SumMe and TVSum. The experimental result showed that Interp-SUM generates the most natural sequence of summary frames than any other the state-of-the-art methods. In addition, Interp-SUM still showed comparable performance with the state-of-art research on unsupervised video summarization methods, which is shown and analyzed in the experiments of this paper.

The principles of poly-parametric information coding have been considered. The methods for developing poly-parametric codes have been presented. It is shown that the protection of block codes from channel interference using check patterns can be developed by a mono- or poly-parametric method. A special type of block codes has been presented, the check patterns of which are formed on the basis of their neighbours, which are functionally related to the given code combination. Such codes have been called poly-parametric. Binary poly-parametric ring codes, the check patterns of which are designed to detect and correct channel errors, are developed using the properties of Galois fields and on the basis of the vector shift indicators of the codewords. To obtain digital poly-parametric block codes, the properties and features of the normalized natural sequence are used. It is shown that each codeword of a binary block code can be represented as a certain positive integer in the decimal number system, which is an element of the natural sequence. Its elements on an interval that equals the norm acquire a functional dependency.

Gram-positive bacteria contain sortase enzymes on their cell surfaces that catalyze transpeptidation reactions critical for proper cellular function. In vitro, sortases are used in sortase-mediated ligation (SML) reactions for a variety of protein engineering applications. Historically, sortase A from Staphylococcus aureus (saSrtA) has been the enzyme of choice for SML reactions. However, the stringent specificity of saSrtA for the sequence motif LPXTG limits its uses. Here, we use principal component analysis to identify a structurally conserved loop with a high degree of variability in all classes of sortases. We investigate the contribution of this beta7-beta8 loop, located between the catalytic cysteine and arginine residues and immediately adjacent to the target binding cleft, by designing and testing chimeric sortase enzymes. Our chimeras utilize natural sequence variation of Class A sortases from 8 species engineered into the SrtA sequence from Streptococcus pneumoniae (spSrtA). While some of our chimeric enzymes mimic the activity and selectivity of the wild-type protein from which the loop sequence is derived (e.g., that of saSrtA), others result in chimeric spSrtA enzymes able to accommodate a range of residues in the final position of the substrate motif (LPXTX). Using mutagenesis, structural, and sequence analyses, we identify three interactions facilitated by beta7-beta8 loop residues that appear to be broadly characteristic of Class A sortase enzymes. These studies provide the foundation for a deeper understanding of sortase target selectivity and can expand the sortase toolbox for future SML applications.

The article reveals and theoretically substantiates the anaseism (wave-like) nature of scientific and technological progress. The author of the article, in the course of his research activities, has developed a model of waves (anaseism) of scientific and technological progress, which reveals a natural sequence of the life cycle of any technology, start-up and other, both tangible and intangible objects of scientific and technological progress.
