The formation phenomena of silver carbonate (Ag2CO3)–silver iodide (AgI) solid solutions were investigated by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, and electrical conductivity measurement. Results revealed that AgI and Ag2CO3 reacted with each other when mixed at room temperature. The reaction products were classified into three types: (1) AgI-based solid solutions in the AgI-rich region for x = 10% or less in x Ag2CO3–(1 − x) AgI; (2) Ag2CO3-based solid solutions in the Ag2CO3-rich region for x = 60% or more; and (3) silver carbonate iodides in the intermediate range for x between 10% and 60%. For the AgI-based solid solutions, the incorporation of Ag2CO3 into the AgI lattice expanded the unit cell and enhanced electrical conductivity. The solubility limit of Ag2CO3 into the AgI lattice estimated from the differential thermal analysis was x ≈ 5%.

The title silver carbonate iodide, Ag10(CO3)3I4, decasilver(I) tris(carbonate) tetraiodide, was recently reported as a precursor of the new superionic conductor Ag17(CO3)3I11. Ag10(CO3)3I4, was prepared by heating a stoichiometric powder mixture of AgI and Ag2CO3 at 430 K. A single-crystal suitable for X-ray diffraction analysis was obtained by slow cooling of a melt with an AgI-rich composition down from 453 K. Ag10(CO3)3I4 exhibits a layered crystal structure packed along [10\overline{1}], in which Ag atoms are intercalated between the layers of hexagonally close-packed I atoms, and CO3 groups. Up to now, Cs3Pb2(CO3)3I is the only other compound containing carbonate groups and iodide ions registered in the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database.

Objective: Polysaccharide-based biomaterials are extensively used in wound care healing due to their unique liquid absorption, gelling properties and biocompatibility properties. They play an important role in controlling infections of highly exuding hard-to-heal wounds. The main objective of this study was to develop silver-containing polysaccharide-based tricomponent antibacterial fibres for use in these complex wounds. Method: The fibres were developed by coating silver-containing alginate and psyllium fibres with hydrolysed chitosan. Dope solution containing alginate, psyllium and silver carbonate was extruded into a coagulation bath containing calcium chloride and hydrolysed chitosan. The developed fibres were tested for liquid absorption, swelling and antibacterial properties against a control fibre (of alginate and psyllium). Results: The developed fibres showed comparatively better liquid absorption, gelling and antibacterial properties than the control fibres. Conclusion: The study concluded that developed fibres could be a preferred choice for application on hard-to-heal wounds with high levels of exudate, to support infection control and faster healing.

It has been established that the dienylation of unfunctionalized arenes with 1,6-diynes, possessing aryl groups at the diyne termini, proceeds to give the corresponding dienylated arenes in the presence of a catalytic amount of an electron-deficient cyclopentadienyl rhodium(III) complex, [CpERhCl2]2 (1), and a stoichiometric amount of silver carbonate. Experimental and theoretical mechanistic studies revealed that an in-situ generated CpERh(I) complex might catalyze the present dienylation reaction.

A novel protocol for the construction of 2-(pyridin-3-yl)-chromeno[2,3-d]pyrimidines from 3-cyanochromone with 1,1-enediamines via an unprecedented cascade reaction has been developed by simply refluxing the reactants under the catalysis of silver carbonate.
