Accurate quantitative detection for trace gas has long been the center of failure diagnosis for gas-insulated equipment. An absorption spectroscopy-based detection system was developed for trace SF6 decomposition SO2 detection in this paper. In order to reduce interference from other decomposition, ultraviolet spectrum of SO2 was selected for detection. Firstly, an excimer lamp was developed in this paper as the excitation of the absorption spectroscopy compared with regular light sources with electrodes, such as electrodeless lamps that are more suitable for long-term monitoring. Then, based on the developed excimer lamp, a detection system for trace SO2 was established. Next, a proper absorption peak was selected by calculating spectral derivative for further analysis. Experimental results indicated that good linearity existed between the absorbance and concentration of SO2 at the chosen absorption peak. Moreover, the detection limit of the proposed detection system could reach the level of 10−7. The results of this paper could serve as a guide for the application of excimer lamp in online monitoring for SF6-insulated equipment.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has emerged as a serious threat to human health worldwide. The inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 on object surfaces and in the indoor air might help to halt the COVID-19 pandemic. Far-ultraviolet light (UVC) disinfection has been proven to be highly effective against viruses and bacteria. To understand the wavelength and duration of UVC radiation required for SARS-CoV-2 inactivation, we examined the efficacy of UVC light prototype devices with the wavelengths of 275, 254, and 222 nm. The disinfection effectiveness was determined by cell-based assays including the median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) and an immunofluorescent assay on African green monkey kidney epithelial Vero E6 cells. Among the three prototypes, the UVC LED (275 nm) had the best virucidal activity with a log-reduction value (LRV) >6 after 10 s of exposure. The mercury lamp (254 nm) reached similar virucidal activity after 20 s of exposure. However, the excimer lamp (222 nm) showed limited anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity with a LRV < 2 after 40 s of exposure. Overall, in comparison, the UVC LED (275 nm) exhibited superior SARS-CoV-2 disinfection activity than the mercury lamp (254 nm) and the excimer lamp (222 nm).

Background: Scalp psoriasis is usually refractory to treatment. Excimer devices have been proved to be a promising therapeutic option in psoriasis. Greater efficacy of phototherapy can be achieved by concurrent use of coal tar derivatives. Objective: We aimed to compare efficacy and safety between 308-nm excimer lamp monotherapy and a combination of 308-nm excimer lamp and 10% liquor carbonis detergens in the treatment of scalp psoriasis. Methods: In this randomized, evaluator-blinded, prospective, comparative study, 30 patients with scalp psoriasis received either 308-nm excimer lamp monotherapy or a combination of 308-nm excimer lamp and 10% liquor carbonis detergens twice per week until complete remission of the scalp or for a total of 30 sessions. Efficacy was evaluated by the improvement of Psoriasis Scalp Severity Index (PSSI) score, itch score, and Scalpdex score. Results: Both treatments induced significant improvement in PSSI score with greater reduction observed in the combination group. At 30th visit, a 75% reduction in PSSI (PSSI75) was attained by 4 (28.6%) and 9 (69.2%) patients treated with monotherapy and combination therapy, respectively (P < 0.05).Conclusions: Excimer lamp is well-tolerated in patients with scalp psoriasis and liquor carbonis detergens can be used as a combination therapy to improve the efficacy of excimer lamp.
