This paper provides a service-oriented foundation for big data. The foundation has two parts. Part 1 reveals 10 big characteristics of big data. Part 2 presents a service-oriented framework for big data. The framework has fundamental, technological, and socio-economic levels. The fundamental level has four big fundamental characteristics of big data: big volume, big velocity, big variety, and big veracity. The technological level consists of three big technological characteristics of big data: Big intelligence, big analytics, big infrastructure. The socioeconomic level has three big socioeconomic characteristics of big data: big service, big value, and big market. The article looks at each level of the proposed framework from a service-oriented perspective. The multi-level framework will help organizations and researchers understand how the 10 big characteristics relate to big opportunities, big challenges, and big impacts arising from big data. The proposed approach in this paper might facilitate the research and development of big data, big data analytics, business intelligence, and business analytics.

Individual piano lessons have limitations for peer interaction and cooperation, which leads to insufficient stimulation for children to achieve affective and musical understanding. This paper attempts to set up a piano chamber music program at the fundamental level in the first four years of learning piano, corresponding to children around five to nine years old) to close this gap. The program is a supplementary measure to solve problems deriving from a model of only individual lessons. It assists children in strengthening their existing knowledge as well as developing their abilities. The program is based on Piaget’s theory regarding cognitive development, and it combines theories of musical embodiment and music pedagogy. It promotes a rich musical environment and multiple opportunities for peer interaction so that children can make up for deficiencies arising from a single lesson model, using moderate stimulation from a suitable environment.

Complexity is a term that is now commonly used when discussing TV serial dramas and the way that, in recent years, creators and producers of this narrative form have embraced innovative and challenging strategies to tell their stories. As a result, it is also often argued that all TV serial dramas are strikingly different from one another; one of the few things that contemporary TV serial dramas have in common is their employment of complex narrative strategies. However, in this thesis, I argue that—while serial dramas are different from one another in many ways—they are also all the same at a fundamental level. In order to examine the fundamental narrative components that all serial dramas employ, I use chaos as a framework. Chaos is a branch of mathematics and science which examines systems that display unpredictable behaviour that is actually determined by deep structures of order and stability. At its most basic level, chaos corresponds with the way in which serial dramas are both complex and simple at the same time; beneath the complexity of serial dramas are fundamental building blocks that are used to generate innovative, challenging and unpredictable narratives. I apply the findings from my critical examination of chaos and TV drama narratives to the creation of my own TV projects, which employ the inherent structures and patterns of TV drama narratives in a way that produces innovative and complex stories. In doing so, I intend to highlight the potential of serial dramas to be endlessly creative yet consistently the same.

Bathing at a fundamental level is desired for two attributes cleansing the body, and cleansing the soul. Historically the act of bathing has been a combination of hot and cold water bathing; this act cleanses both the body and soul, and is seen as an enjoyable pastime for both eastern and western cultures. The priority then is to architecturally express the 'body and soul' through a careful material selection. The choice of materials reflects this, concrete and bamboo, expressing the solid (body) and the light (soul). Design precedents, material comparison, eastern and western beliefs are used to establish a rationale between the material contrast of body and soul. The location for the design reflects the natural connection between 'body and soul' in a location that references the land and water, geothermal and steam, lake and landscape. The final project includes detailing of non-penetrating fixings for the use in bamboo construction, including natural and industrial products into a public bath that compliments the body and the soul.

For many years strong interactions had a well-deserved reputation for complexity. Their apparent strength rendered perturbation theory inapplicable. However, in the late 1960s a series of experiments studying the deep inelastic electron–nucleon scattering showed that at a more fundamental level, the strong interactions among the constituent quarks can be described perturbatively by an asymptotically free gauge theory. We present the theory of quantum chromodynamics, the unbroken gauge theory of the colour SU(3) group. We show how we can compute its predictions in the kinematic regions in which perturbation theory is applicable, but also in the strong coupling regime through numerical simulations on a space-time lattice.
