Grzegorz ?atuszy?ski (1933-2020) was undoubtedly one of the finest Polish translators of 20th century Serbian poetry. Apart from 16 volumes devoted to poems by selected authors, he also published two-volume anthology presenting poems by 155 Serbian poets. Even an on surface analysis of the translations proves ?atuszy?ski?s ability to combine his poetic sensi?tivity with philological precision. Grzegorz ?atuszy?ski also translated two important novels (by Milos Crnjanski and Borislav Pekic) as well as a book of letters by Filip David and Mirko Kovac. Each volume of ?atuszy?ski?s translations is accompanied by a biographical profile of the poets and some characteristics of their work. Another aspect of ?atuszy?ski professional profile is essay writing and journalism. Besides, he translated Polish poetry into Serbian. All ?atuszy?ski?s professional activities has led to a closer cooperation between Polish and Serbian literary circles.

This introduction provides a concise presentation of Yiddish as the foundational vernacular of Ashkenazi Jews and addresses the challenge of how to present the story of the language by explaining the book’s thematic approach to studying Yiddish through the format of a biographical profile. The introduction notes some key distinguishing characteristics of Yiddish, including its complex and dynamic interrelation with other languages and its symbolic stature within different multilingual configurations. In addition, the introduction provides an overview of the distinctive issues that Yiddish raises for the study of languages generally, including language diaspora, language fusion, multilingualism, language ideologies, and postvernacularity.

AbstractIn the Senate there were always individuals who opposed Octavius and  several of them came to conspire against him. After the confinement of Lepidus from the political sphere, which caused Antonius and Octavius to remain face to face, the latter was subject to several conspiracies. This form of more violent opposition is the one that predominates in the ensemble of the classic sources, which collect important data to know the relations between the Senate and the princeps. However, among them, there is a particular fact that attracts attention, since it is a case of non-violent opposition and that it becomes extolled at the sources (Tac., Ann., 3, 75), represented by the jurist Marcus Antistius Labeo. To address the issue, first, we will collect the cases before Antistius Labeo which opposed Augustus and make a brief biographical profile of the character. Finally, we will investigate the cases in which Labeo showed his opposition to the figure of Augustus.

The critical review, recent restorations and an excellent photographic campaign have allowed a new reading of the work of Juan Martínez Montañés, the greatest wood sculptor of the Andalusian Renaissance. The Seville exhibition and its catalog explored themes such as the role of the wood arts in 16th and 17th century Andalusia, the contextual meaning of the art of the retable and the importance of polychromy in Montañés’s sculpture. Some attributions appear less convincing and a summary biographical profile that would have facilitated the reading of the essays and catalog entries is missing. This paper takes its cue from the theme of the exhibition to compare the Italian and Spanish critical tradition on polychrome wood sculpture. In Spain the high consideration for this sector of artistic production has always kept it at the center of the interests of the client and critics, unlike what has happened in Italy.

By legitimizing his children born of illicit relations, the Grand Cardinal of Spain wished to make them members of the Castilian nobility. Such was the case, for instance, with his first-born Rodrigo, first marquis of the Cenete and first count of El Cid, allegedly related, through the wishes of his parents, to Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, El Cid Campeador. By appropriating this fictional genealogy, the prelate endowed his entailed estate (mayorazgo) with a symbolism that earned him greater credibility through his deeds and actions, especially as the marquis matured and gained experience in the wars of Granada, the Italian campaign and the Germanías of Valencia. The object of this study is to outline a biographical profile of Rodrigo de Mendoza and establish parallels observed between his life and that of his alleged and eminent ancestor.
