--- Inclusion of the Autistic Student in School: A Look at Pedagogical Mediation Abstract: This work aimed to present a general approach to autistic patients as well as the characteristics and difficulties that are faced for their inclusion in the school environment. To support the research, searches were carried out in the databases, using the keywords: autism, school inclusion, basic education. There were also readings of theoretical contributions that broaden and enrich the discussion of the subject. The search was carried out through articles indexed in data platforms (academic Google) and Virtual Health Library (BVS) and SCIELO. It was found that there is still a large scale of people in society, who need to have more knowledge about the syndrome so that, in this way, they know how to deal with and can understand the autistic patient, because understanding their inclusion in the social and school environment is easier. Understanding the behavior of each autistic person also favors the best way to develop teaching strategies aimed at stimulating their learning and behavior. Keywords: Autism; School inclusion; Primary Care.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition with a very heterogeneous presentation. Autistic people are more likely to have unmet healthcare needs, making it essential that healthcare professionals are ‘autism-aware’. In this article, we provide an overview of how autism presents and use case studies to illustrate how a neurological consultation in an outpatient clinic environment could prove challenging for a autistic person. We suggest how to improve communication with autistic patients in clinic and highlight the importance of a patient-centred and flexible approach.

Introduction: Superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal obstruction. Diagnosis is confirmed via computed tomography (CT) scan showing acute angulation at the origin of superior mesenteric artery compressing on the duodenum causing proximal dilatation of the second part of duodenum.

Autism is one of the developmental disorders which make major behavioral and communication changes in the individual and induce a major drawback in the walking pattern. The main aim of this study is to analyze and compare the stride patterns of an autistic patient and a healthy individual. With the help of the proposed device, the yaw, pitch and roll of the limbs can be easily measured and analyzed. These parameters will identify the lacking movement patterns and help the physiotherapists in improving the walking pattern of the autistic patients by adopting the correct approach of remedial actions/treatment. It can also be used by the people who have undergone hip replacements or knee replacements and have an abnormal gait pattern. This device is a simple accumulation of sensors and memory storage unit. Two gyroscope sensors have been used, one each for the knee and the ankle. These sensors are strapped onto the knee and ankle with the help of free-sized elastic bands. The data received by the sensors are stored in the storage device automatically and are evaluated in a specially designed Web application. However, the raw data from the gyroscope sensors have not been used directly and various filters have been used to remove the errors. The results have been compared between an autistic patient and a normal healthy subject and showed a higher degree of angle difference for the autistic patient than the normal individual.

Epidiolex® (Cannabidiol- CBD) is approved for epilepsy associated with Dravet syndrome (DS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) in patients over 2 years of age. Common side effects include somnolence and diarrhea. Recent studies have demonstrated interactions between cannabidiol and several other antiseizure medications. However, little is known regarding interactions between cannabidiol and other classes of medications. We discuss an autistic patient with LGS and significant psychiatric comorbidities who was being treated with multiple antiseizure and psychiatric medications, including lithium, when CBD was added to his medical regimen. Several weeks after initiating CBD therapy, he developed hypersomnolence, ataxia and decreased oral intake and was found to have lithium toxicity. Lithium was discontinued and his symptoms resolved. He remains on CBD and 2 other antiseizure medications, seizure-free with improved behavior. We review mechanisms of action and pharmacokinetics of CBD and discuss possible explanations for lithium toxicity in this patient.
