The impact of modern conditions of functioning of the world economic system on the processes of its globalization and global supply chains was examined in article. One of the main factors in intensifying the deepening of production and technological ties is recognized as logistics integration. It creates a new scheme for global supply chain management. It is based on the unity of the principles of hierarchy and heterarchy in the choice of forms and scope of integration. Logistics integration is seen as a process of organizing the interaction of cooperating entities in the chain, aimed at achieving the ultimate system goal. In-depth and situational adjustment of production and technological relations and joint use of resources and capital of enterprises in the logistics chain is realized either through their mergers and acquisitions or in other forms of virtual integration. The consequence of such integration is the formation of comprehensive logistics services with high added value. The author 's vision of building a heterarchical system of global supply chain management using the institutions of focus centers is presented. Basic recommendations for strategic and tactical planning of the chain's activities as a single integrated entity have been developed. Such a system provides self-organization of management and flexible dispersion of centers of general system management decisions according to the functions and competencies of specialized supply chain centers. Heterarchical self-organization of management operates on the terms of relations' equality, full openness and transparency between interacting entities, a single information environment and communication channels.

Contemporary supply chain management involves integration, collaboration, networking, the Internet as a channel. The latter is about to be disrupted by the Internet of Things and industry 4.0. Contemporary Supply Chain Management involves supplier integration over product lifecycle. This creates structural organizational opportunities for Global Supply Chain Centers, organized as a corporate functional unit for an organization, a shared service center or a Business Process Organization that manages supply chain intermediation. The opportunities of such units are unravelled, the major of which: closing bulk contracts at a large discount price, especially for commodities; closing contracts with suppliers to assure supply availability and quality; economies of scale; complex product over lifetime advantages. These are possible for a large corporation or a Business Process Organization. This chapter aims to explore, analyze and evaluate the construction of a Global Supply Chain Management at Siemens since 2009 to date in the advent of Industry 4.0 promoted by Siemens.

This chapter explores the leadership strategies for global supply chain management in the construction sector. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) construction sector, which played a pivotal role in transforming UAE to a modern economy from a nomadic one is used as an exemplary case in this study to understand the leadership strategies required for developing ‘globalness' in their construction supply chain. Using secondary research and interviews with stakeholders in the construction supply chain, the study proposes leadership strategies in four key areas: 1) policymaking, 2) technology and innovation, 3) environmental supply chain management, and 4) international collaboration/partnerships. The findings are useful for practitioners and policymakers in improving the global competitiveness of their construction sector and its supply chain.
