Teamwork and communication are critical to ensure safe and quality care for students. A huddle offers the team a daily dedicated time to connect with each other. Huddles are short, regular debriefings designed to engage clinical staff in discussions about existing or emerging safety issues. The huddle was already systematically and uniformly part of the daily practice at Akron Children’s Hospital’s School Health Services daily schedule prior to COVID-19. The pandemic increased the need for the daily huddle. The fluid and frequently changing guidelines, personal protective equipment, and mitigation considerations has increased nursing anxiety and has made regular communication and daily debriefing even more important. Akron Children’s Hospital School Health Services has used huddle for over 10 years with excellent quality, team building, and nurse satisfaction outcomes.

School Health Services (SHS) are school health programs that promote health in school children. The value of SHS is recognized globally and practices around SHS vary with different regions. Its positive outcomes are already acknowledged by high-income countries, where education ministries are typically involved in cultivating comprehensive School Health Services. Low-income countries remain hesitant to implement SHS, due to various constraints. In Pakistan, SHS have been introduced and restructured several times, but never comprehensively executed. Private schools in Pakistan offer better health programs than public schools but none of the schools follow standardized school health guidelines. This paper aims to analyze the role of SHS in Pakistan and provide several recommendations regarding the establishment of SHS in local schools. The proposed suggestions revolve around establishing model clinics in schools, which would be central to subsequent school-based health programs in Pakistan. If properly designed and equipped, school clinics can support a wide range of health outcomes, from emergency first aid care, to immunizations, to health education. The involvement of ministries and national authorities is encouraged for smooth delivery of SHS and compliance with public health guidelines.

Higher educational institutions are responsible for integrating the vital aspect of primary healthcare services in school settings. The study assessed the quality and utilization of school health services (SHS) of a state university in the Philippines. A descriptive-comparative and correlational study was utilized through a researcher-made questionnaire among 310 respondents using stratified random sampling. Generally, findings revealed that the level of quality of SHS is high, and the extent of utilization is great. It showed significant differences in the level of quality when grouped as to geographic clusters and the extent of utilization when grouped as to designation and geographic clusters. There is a positive correlation between the level of quality and the extent of utilization of SHS. Challenges encountered were the limited availability of health personnel and inadequate health supplies and equipment. Therefore, the higher the quality of SHS, the greater is the extent of utilization towards building a healthy university.

Background: School health services offer a great opportunity for many children to access primary health care, especially in developing countries. This study assessed the status of health services in public primary schools in Enugu Metropolis, Enugu State, Nigeria from the perspectives of the school heads.Methods: This was a qualitative study conducted among 24 public primary school head masters/mistresses in the three Local Government Areas making up Enugu metropolis. They were purposively selected from the 117 public primary schools in the metropolis. Data were collected through the use of Key Informant Interview (KII) guide, and analyzed using thematic approach.Results: Only one of the participants knew about the school health policy, while others expressed surprise at its existence. All the schools had a first aid box, but most of the boxes were not sufficiently stocked. None of the schools had a trained first aider. De-worming was carried out once in a while in all the schools. Majority of the schools did not document health services provided. The schools rarely referred pupils to health facilities as needed, but rather informed parents if their children became ill while in school.Conclusion: The implementation of health services in public primary schools in Enugu Metropolis leaves much to be desired. Health services, including health appraisal were generally poor. Basic resources necessary for school health services were lacking in the schools. There is need for stakeholders to take urgent steps in order to redress the situation.
