Teamwork and communication are critical to ensure safe and quality care for students. A huddle offers the team a daily dedicated time to connect with each other. Huddles are short, regular debriefings designed to engage clinical staff in discussions about existing or emerging safety issues. The huddle was already systematically and uniformly part of the daily practice at Akron Children’s Hospital’s School Health Services daily schedule prior to COVID-19. The pandemic increased the need for the daily huddle. The fluid and frequently changing guidelines, personal protective equipment, and mitigation considerations has increased nursing anxiety and has made regular communication and daily debriefing even more important. Akron Children’s Hospital School Health Services has used huddle for over 10 years with excellent quality, team building, and nurse satisfaction outcomes.

IntroductionNurse-run preanaesthesia assessment is well established in ambulatory surgery. However, in the Middle East the implementation of such a service is new and needed careful preparation. Aim of this audit is to assess the feasibility and the quality of preoperative assessments by the specially trained nurses, patient and nurse satisfaction and overall perioperative quality of recovery.MethodsThe nurses were selected and trained first in an accredited programme. Then an implementation period of 3 month was used for them to gain experience. Hereafter, we performed a four-step audit on the quality of preassessment, the patient’s satisfaction, the quality of recovery and adverse events if any. Finally, we also monitored the nurse’s satisfaction of their new advanced role.ResultsThe quality of preanaesthesia assessment was high as with 95% compliance to the accepted standards. In the patient satisfaction survey, all 152 patients were either highly satisfied or satisfied with the nurse-run service. The nurses were also highly satisfied and felt that they were either highly or moderately valued. All the patients who were operated at the ambulatory care services were followed up postoperatively by telephone calls which revealed that most of them were highly satisfied. No major or minor adverse events occurred.ConclusionOur specially trained nurses perform preoperative assessments on high standard without adverse events, while patient and staff satisfaction is very high. Future projects will focus on reducing the rate of cancellation of surgeries, investigating the cost-effectiveness of this approach as well as training the specialised nurses for paediatric preoperative anaesthesia assessments. This model of care could induce further nurse-run models of care in the Middle East.

Hospital health services cannot be separated from nursing services which have a role in improving the health status of patients. The team method is the organization of nursing services using a team consisting of groups of clients and nurses. Nurse performance is a measure of the quality of service in a hospital. Performance is influenced by individual variables, psychological variables and organizational variables. This study aims to determine the relationship between professional nursing care management (MAKP) TEAM and nurse satisfaction in the hospital. The type of research used is descriptive analytic research with a "cross sectional" approach. Population of 60 people and sample of 60 people, the sampling technique was used with total sampling. MAKP TEAM data collection with nurse satisfaction through questionnaires. The statistical test used the chi-square test. The results of the bivariate analysis of the relationship between the Professional Nursing Care Method (MAKP) TEAM and the Satisfaction of Nurses in the Inpatient Room of the Sari Mutiara Lubuk Pakam Hospital from the results of the chi square test obtained a value of p = 0.000 <0.05, where Ha is accepted, which means there is a relationship between professional nursing care methods ( MAKP) Team with Nurse satisfaction. So from the results of the research conducted there was a relationship between the TEAM Professional Nursing Care Method (MAKP) and the Satisfaction of Nurses in the Inpatient Room of the Sari Mutiara Lubuk Pakam Hospital. It is hoped that the head of the room will increase his role in aspects of the management function. It is hoped that the hospital will increase teamwork in the application of the team method in the inpatient room so as to produce nurse satisfaction and produce perceived job satisfaction among nurses. It is hoped that the next researchers will be able to conduct more in-depth research on nurses who work in the hospital.

Abstract Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the postoperative analgesia effect of ultrasound-guided single popliteal sciatic nerve block for calcaneal fracture. Methods A total of 120 patients scheduled for unilateral open reduction and internal fixation of calcaneal fracture were enrolled in this prospective randomized study. Patients in group B received ultrasound-guided single popliteal sciatic nerve block after operation, but Patients in group A did not. All patients received patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) after operation. The time to initiation of PCIA, the time of first pressing the analgesia pump, duration of analgesia pump use and the total number of times the patient pressed the analgesia pump were recorded. The time of rescue analgesia and the adverse reactions were recorded. Pain magnitude of the patients immediately after discharge from operating room (T1), and at 4th (T2), 8th (T3), 12th (T4), 16th (T5), 24th (T6) and 48th (T7) h after the operation were assessed with visual analog scale (VAS). In addition, patient, surgeon and nurse satisfaction were recorded. Results The VAS scores at T2 ~ T5, the time of rescue analgesia and the adverse reactions, the total number of times the patient pressed the analgesia pump were significantly declined in group B (p < 0.001). The time to initiation of PCIA, the time of first pressing the analgesia pump, duration of analgesia pump use were prolonged and patient surgeon and nurse satisfaction were improved in group B (p < 0.05). Conclusion Ultrasound-guided single popliteal sciatic nerve block is an effective postoperative analgesia strategy for calcaneal fracture. Trial registration ChiCTR, ChiCTR2100042340. Abstract Objective Based on feedback from nurses regarding the challenges of code documentation following the implementation of a new electronic health record (EHR), we sought to better understand inpatient nurse attitudes and practices in code documentation and to identify opportunities for improvement. Methods An anonymous electronic survey was distributed to all inpatient nurses working at a single, 999-bed, university-based, and quaternary care hospital. Participation in the study was voluntary and consent was implied by survey completion. Results Overall, 432 (14%) of 3,121 inpatient nurses completed the survey. While nearly 80% of respondents indicated feeling very comfortable using computers for personal use, only 5% felt very comfortable navigating the EHR to document codes in real time. While 53% had documented codes in the new EHR, most admitted to documenting on paper with retroactive entry into the EHR. About 25% reported having participated in a code that was not accurately documented in the new EHR. All respondents provided specific suggestions for improving the EHR interface, and over 90% expressed interest in having opportunities to practice code documentation using simulated code events. Conclusion Despite completion of training modules in code documentation in a new EHR, many inpatient nurses in a single institution feel uncomfortable documenting codes directly into the EHR, and some question the accuracy of this documentation. Improving EHR functionality based on specific recommendations from end-users coupled with more practice documenting simulated codes may ease EHR navigation, leading to nurses' acceptance of the EHR tool, more accurate and efficient documentation, greater nurse satisfaction and more appropriate quality improvement measures.
