Artisanal green sand casting of aluminum pots is a notable flourishing business in many urban areas of west and central Africa but seen to be typified by labor-intensive and subjective control of a large number of variables to successfully cast. Correct mold designs with in-flow and cooling rates of molten aluminum are fundamental in reducing labor and defects in the castings. The paper presents sand mold design for casting 30litre-capacity cylindrical aluminum pot of internal diameter 314.7mm, depth 386mm, and wall thickness 4mm with  handling lugs alongside its cover using unpressurized gating system ratio of 1:3:3. The design provides suitable specifications of the ladle position, mass and pouring time and in-flow rate of molten aluminum, layout for the mold components, means of compensating process cooling shrinkages of aluminum during solidification, patterns for the castings, and molding box. The motive behind the paper was to emphasize and exemplify the use of basic engineering design procedure for supplementing artisanal green sand molding practices for improving consistency and productivity, and minimizing laboriousness and casing defects with improved profitability in the business.

Bolster and Stripper Assembly is used to support mold box, match plate and pattern for mold preparation with green sand in high pressure molding machine. Different types of molding machines used for preparation of mold from green sand are flask type molding machine and flask less type molding machine. Commonly used molding machine is flask type molding machine with bolster and stripper assembly for mold preparation.This paper explains design and analysis of bolster and stripper assembly for manufacturing required size mold in high pressure green sand molding machine.

A set of hot-air curing device for phosphate sand was designed, processed and assembled, samples were made by the device, and their properties were studied. Result shows that design principle of the device is correct, hot-air remains stable; Phosphate sand can be hardened by blowing hot-air, it is suitable to assembly line like clay sand molding line because of short blowing time, for φ30mm×30mm sample, suitable blowing time is 15s when blowing temperature is 200°C,its dry compressive strength is up to 2.1MPa; The sample is not suitable for storage, because storage strength is declined sharply with high humidity although it is improved slightly with falling humidity; Compare to no-bake phosphate sand and heat-cured phosphate sand, crack on fracture surface of hot-air cured phosphate sand is invisible nearly, but fracture mode is adhesive fracture mainly, so its dry compressive strength is lower slightly.

The addition of a high percentage of silicon and a small percentage of magnesium to aluminum are the main enhancers largely used to improve the mechanical characteristics. Our goal, here, is to make a direct contribution to the mechanical properties in traction, the hardness, the resilience and the structural properties of the AlSi13 alloy used in sand molding and shell metal molding, mechanical as well as manual. The reference state is designated by crude casting, noted: F. To increase the characteristics and obtain substantially large yield stresses and higher stiffnesses, the material of numerical designation 44100 is subjected to the specific heat treatments, quenching and annealing. This study aims to determine the influence of the chemical composition, the structural hardening of sand casting and metal shell casting by gravity on the evolution of the tensile behavior, hardness, resilience and microstructure of the binary alloy 44100.
