Neuro-symbolic approaches combine neural and symbolic methods. This paper explores aspects regarding the reasoning mechanisms of two neuro-symbolic approaches, that is, neurules and connectionist expert systems. Both provide reasoning and explanation facilities. Neurules are a type of neuro-symbolic rules tightly integrating the neural and symbolic components, giving pre-eminence to the symbolic component. Connectionist expert systems give pre-eminence to the connectionist component. This paper explores reasoning aspects about neurules and connectionist expert systems that have not been previously addressed. As far as neurules are concerned, an aspect playing a role in conflict resolution (i.e., order of neurules) is explored. Experimental results show an improvement in reasoning efficiency. As far as connectionist expert systems are concerned, variations of the reasoning mechanism are explored. Experimental results are presented for them as well showing that one of the variations generally performs better than the others.

AbstractWe present and evaluate a virtual counselling system that is devoted to improving user awareness of emotional situations in computer-mediated communication and making informed decisions on actions to recommend to the users involved in a conversation. Starting from elements such as the moods and emotions of the users involved in a conversation, the system constructs the emotional signatures of individuals and groups that are used to characterize a situation. It then uses an approximate reasoning mechanism based on three-way decisions to classify recognized situations with respect to particular emotional dynamics based on emotional contagion. A prototype of the system has been experimented on in a real context based on collaboration between university students for the realization of project work. The distinctive features of the system have been evaluated with accuracy measures, and the results are promising.

This work aims to propose a system for the Algerian Fatawa House in orderto facilitate the task of the Expert Mufti who is responsible of giving fatawa for Algerian people inquiries. In fact, as this house is recent and does not have sufficient human resources, it is difficult to satisfy all inquiries coming daily, this leads the askers to wait for a long time before getting answers. The proposed system allows the askers to express concerns they may have. By using a case-based reasoning mechanism combined with ontology domain, the system tries to retrieve similar cases from the knowledge base. In the casewhere the response already exists, the system immediately provides the answer to the askers. Otherwise, an inquery is automatically formulated and sent to the expert Mufti-which is a certified scholar-in order either to validate the generated response by the system or give a new answer. Such a question-answering system may be very helpful for askers to get their answers faster since it allows both the storage of previous fatawas and their retrieval for processing coming inquiries. To validate our proposal, we rely on fatawas concerning the Islamic finance and banking transactions domain. Overall, the results are encouraging and satisfactory.

The article briefly reviews the context-based view of the case-based reasoning mechanism and second language acquisition theories, and analyzes the feasibility of the application of CBR in bilingual context knowledge representation. Based on this, it proposes bilingualism. The computational model, algorithm and general implementation process of the system for contextual knowledge representation CBR system is a preliminary exploration of the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence theory in the study of second language acquisition theory. It is intended to provide a second language acquisition study to the new research methods and perspectives.

Study about the implications of artistic occupations in the Historic Center of São Luís for the preservation and valorization of the cultural heritage in the State of Maranhão. It aims to discuss the implications of artistic occupations present in the Historic Center and how they can contribute to the revitalization, preservation, and valorization of the cultural heritage of the capital. It is an exploratory and descriptive study, which uses documentary research and bibliographic research as a reasoning mechanism. It addresses artistic occupations and cultural heritage in its theoretical-conceptual perspectives. It also discusses the implications of artistic occupations in the Historic Center of São Luís, and how they contribute to the preservation and valorization of the cultural heritage of Maranhão. It characterizes the Old Center of São Luís, the role of artistic occupations and its implications for the cultural heritage of São Luís. And it points out that artistic occupations permeate time and space, bringing resignifications and enabling the dynamic permanence of the idea that cultural heritage is not limited to ruins, inexorable monumental mansions or untouchable works and documents.

A dynamic diagnosis system of mine safety based on multi-data fusion is designed by combining the advantages of cloud computing and the Internet of things. The system’s framework is built with a three-tier model, and the construction of the cloud computing service platform provides essential support for mass data storage, processing, and security diagnosis reasoning. Simultaneously, using the relational database SQL Server 2017 and the object-oriented language C# to complete the design of an expert knowledge base and reasoning mechanism, and establish the diagnostic scoring system in the way of weighted sum. Therefore, based on the logical matching and reasoning between the collected data and the safety rules, the dynamic diagnosis of mine safety is realized.
