Introduction: Morbid obesity is characterized by a state of insulin-resistance and is often associated with metabolic syndrome, increasing overall and cardiovascular mortality. Due to the unsatisfactory results in conventional treatment in specific groups of patients, invasive intervention is an alternative. However, it may be indicated, especially in situations where the patient has severe obesity or morbid obesity. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the changes in metabolic syndrome parameters after bariatric surgery. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature performed through searches in the Scielo, LILACS and PUBMED databases using the following Controlled Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): Bariatric Surgery, Gastric Bypass, Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome. The inclusion criteria were: articles in English or Portuguese, text in full, publications in the period from 2009 to 2019 in article format that addressed the theme described. Duplicate publications, articles that did not address the theme after reading the respective abstracts and articles that do not meet the objectives of this study were excluded. Results: According to the analysis of the results, a reduction of 86.1% in the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was observed; 65.3% in arterial hypertension and 84.2% in altered fasting glycemia. A normalization of abdominal circumference in 35.4% of patients, an increase in 35.8% in HDL levels and high triglyceride values may be observed. Among the results obtained, the increase in HDL did not obtain great relevance, as well as the decrease in abdominal circumference. Conclusion: The study showed a positive relationship between bariatric surgery and metabolic syndrome parameters. The results presented were favorable when surgery was associated with a healthy lifestyle and factors that contribute to the effective coping of this condition in most of the cases analyzed. However, multiprofessional follow-up, particularly for medical, nutritional and psychological care, is essential to have a positive impact on the quality of life of these patients.

This essay provides an annotated translation with commentary of the title and opening three short sentences of João Guimarães Rosa’s “Grande Sertão: Veredas” from Portuguese into Brazilian Sign Language, Libras. A Libras translation uses elements of space and highly iconic structures to recreate the story is a visual form.  The commentary here considers the challenges involved in translating the brief section of the Portuguese text, including accommodation of deaf literary norms to those of contemporary Brazilian society, the search for appropriate Libras signs for the regionally specific context of the novel, the needs of a deaf audience to see the visual aspects of the story, and the decisions made on how to represent GuimarãesRosa’s idiosyncratic style of Portuguese in Libras. It highlights the importance of the sign language translator working as a “translator-actor” where the written text told in first person is translated into Libras, producing a translation that is embodied and presented by the translator, who takes the role of the narrator’s “I”.

Também se apresenta o conteúdo da norma para aferir a real ligação dela com o pensamento político que se desenvolvia na Europa e América do Norte.</div><div> </div><div><strong>Palavras-chave:</strong> Bases da Constituição da Monarquia Portuguesa; Constitucionalismo; Portugal; Brasil; História do Direito.</div><div> </div><div><strong>Abstract:</strong> Paper proposing the recognition of the Bases of the Constitution of the Portuguese Monarchy as the first rule into effect in Brazil as Constitution. Objective To translate and to perform the cross-cultural adaptation of the “Questionnaire of Life Quality Specific for Myasthenia Gravis - 15 items” (MG-QOL15). Method The original English version of the questionnaire was translated into Portuguese. This version was revised and translated back into English. Later, both English versions were compared and the divergences were corrected in the Portuguese text. At a second stage, ten patients with MG followed at the Neuromuscular Diseases Clinic from the University Hospital, Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais answered the questionnaire. The authors analyzed the difficulties and misunderstandings in the application of the questionnaire. Results The questions 8, 13 and 15 were considered difficult to understand and were modified in the final Portuguese version. Most patients (70%) had a total score above 25, and the statements 3, 8 and 9 showed the highest scores. Conclusion The Brazilian version of the questionnaire MG-QOL15 seems to be a promising tool for the assessment of Brazilian patients with MG.
