The present research looks into the most common inadvertencies that occur in professional writing – more specifically, in writing for business purposes. Against the background of the labour market requirements for professionals equipped with sound writing skills – perceived as ‘deal makers or breakers’ – the paper presents the results of a qualitative analysis of business written assignments of students from an English-taught Business Administration programme organised by the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania. The analysis reveals that, despite students being highly proficient users of the target language, they nonetheless stumble upon challenges that pertain not to accuracy and correctness, but to extraneous factors such as appropriateness, flexibility, conciseness, relevance and deference. In the following, we shall attempt to shed light on these inadvertencies and highlight the aspects to be taken into account when writing in a business context.

Since the formation of the chamber and instrumental music in Kazakhstan, the traditional instrumental genrekui – has become the vector of creative search, the basis for the synthesis of national and western musical thinking. The purpose of this article is to reveal the features of the traditional genre within the framework of academic music and to present a new genre – chamber kui.The expression of kui in the works is functionally represented in a variety of ways. The embodiment of the semantics of kui in its figurative meaning is given in the title of the work. When using the folk instrumental genre in professional writing, the authors give a functional association to it presented in the work in the form of a fragment (melody or accompaniment). The next point in the gradation of kui features in the chamber and instrumental works of composers of Kazakhstan is the dominance of its features: motor skills, variant-variational development of form, texture, throughout the work or part of it.The formation of a new genre – chamber kui was the result of creative searches for the synthesis of Kazakh folk instrumental creativity-kui, the connection of the laws of its formation and shaping with the achievements of European creative experience. In form, these pieces are kui (alternation of three register zones characteristic of the traditional genre), in harmony, quart-quint consonances are used, recreating the overtone density of the dombra timbre in the sound of the European instrument.

One line of prior research has focused on the effect of style on readers’ ability to comprehend or willingness to engage with a message. A separate line has illuminated the effect of errors on the impressions readers form about writers, identifying potentially serious consequences (e.g., the willingness to accept the writer as a coworker or to fund the writer’s business pitch). To date, few studies have investigated the effect of style on the impressions readers form of business writers. In this paper, we report a study of the relationship between business writer attributions and word- or sentence-level style features often emphasized by advocates of plain style. Using data from 614 respondents, we found statistically significant evidence that business writers conveyed (a) confidence by avoiding non-requisite words, jargon, and nominals and by using standard connotations and grammar, and (b) professionalism by avoiding non-requisite words and hedges and by using standard homonyms.
