Prosateur subtile qui se rêvait poète, intellectuel libre et farouchement indépendant, Danilo Kiš est en contact avec la culture française depuis son enfance. Il apprend le français à l'école et commence à publier ses premières traductions du français pendant ses études à Belgrade. Engagé comme lecteur de langue serbo-croate, il séjourne à Strasbourg, Bordeaux, et Lille pour s’installer définitivement à Paris où il vit jusqu’à sa mort. Ses œuvres les plus importantes écrites en France, traduites et publiées dans les plus grandes maisons d'édition parisiennes, laisseront leur marque sur la culture française et mondiale. Par son activité, Danilo Kiš s’impose comme un point central d’échange entre deux espaces culturels: le français, qui lui ouvre la porte vers le monde et l’espace serbe, yougoslave et centre-européen. Le premier lui offre la tolérance de la ville cosmopolite et la liberté, mais aussi la politisation insupportable et la prétention inhérente au grand centre et le deuxième, la chaleur de la langue maternelle, la proximité et la sécurité, mais aussi l’environnement provincial borné, l’anarchie et la terreur politique. Combinant la théorie des transferts culturels de Michel Espagne et les théories sur la « littérature mondiale » qui supposent l’analyse des espaces culturels transnationaux de Pascale Casanova Kiš se montre comme médiateur culturel entre deux mondes.

Homodijegetički roman Borislava Pekića: početak srpske postmoderne

The paper starts from the genre definition of “homodiegetic novel” as a narrative type based on the specific position of the narrator in the text. The significant role of Borislav Pekić as an author who, together with Danilo Kiš, participated in the transformation of modernist Serbian literature during 1960s and 1970s is pointed out. In particular, the specific narrative submodel Pekić used in his early novels is analyzed ‒ the homodiegetic narrator who records his own narration. The implications of the applied narrative “strategy of the found manuscript” are examined on the example of the novel Hodočašće Arsenija Njegovana [The Pilgrimage of Arsenije Njegovan], the first in a series of four Pekić’s homodiegetical texts. The interpretation of the effects of the narrative pro- cedure used in the novel, as well as the complexity of the meaning of the text, indicate the author’s opposition to the modernist artistic paradigm which was dominant in the Serbian literature of the period. The analysis of the applied narrative-technical solutions in the novel reveals that the inversion of the implied relationship between text and reality is a key element of Pekić’s postmodern creative approach.

“Variations on the Theme of Central Europe” by Danilo Kiš as an Experience of Space Design

The focus of the paper is the essay “Variations on the Theme of Central Europe“ by a Serbian author Danilo Kiš (1986). This essay raises the question of Central Europe as a special geographical, cultural and mental area. The author of the essay considers this essay as a “mental map” of the region and identifies the key components of it (according to Kish): these are the elements of the triad “human – space – time” and the most important representatives of the Central European cultural canon. Kish’s essay is placed in the context of numerous texts written in the 1980sby other authors (first of all, M. Kundera). It was at that time that a heated discussion about the concept of Central Europe flared up.

<p>W artykule omówiono refleksje literackie Cz. Milosza, M. Kundery i D. Kiša o Europie Środkowej i Środkowo-Wschodniej w świetle porównawczej analizy slawistycznej. Ich poglądy przedstawiono jako fazy i aspekty w rozwoju koncepcji o omawianym regionie. W opracowaniu położono nacisk na dialog między kluczowymi tekstami i konceptami wymienionych pisarzy na postawiony temat, z uwzględnieniem ich biografii, sytuacji emigranckich i dysydenckich oraz historycznej i kulturowej świadomości twórców. Poglądy Czesława Miłosza umieszczono w centrum interpretacji komparatystycznej w odniesieniu do polskiego doświadczenia historycznego oraz dziedzictwa Dawnej Rzeczypospolitej.</p>
