Abstract Zinc and Copper abundances are rarely available for normal and Chemically Peculiar A stars because the strongest transitions of Zn ii and Cu ii fall in the mid-UV. Estimates of the abundances of zinc and copper are derived for 78 Vir (A2p SrCrEu) and θ Leo (A2 IV) using mean mid-ultraviolet spectra constructed by coadding individual spectra collected with the Long Wave Prime and Long wavelength Redundant cameras over the 18 yr of the IUE mission. The strong transition of Cu ii at 2135.98 Å is present in 78 Vir and θ Leo but definitely stronger in 78 Vir, whereas all Zn ii lines are blended. Spectral synthesis of the least blended lines yields estimates of the abundances of zinc and copper of about 4.92 and 4.95 respectively in θ Leo and 5.82 and 5.19 in 78 Vir (on a scale where log(H) = 12). There is no convincing evidence that these lines varied in the spectra analyzed for both stars.

Abstract We present a spectral analysis of four Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) WC-type Wolf–Rayet (WR) stars (BAT99-8, BAT99-9, BAT99-11, and BAT99-52) to shed light on two evolutionary questions surrounding massive stars. The first is: are WO-type WR stars more oxygen enriched than WC-type stars, indicating further chemical evolution, or are the strong high-excitation oxygen lines in WO-type stars an indication of higher temperatures. This study will act as a baseline for answering the question of where WO-type stars fall in WR evolution. Each star’s spectrum, extending from 1100 to 25000 Å, was modeled using cmfgen to determine the star’s physical properties such as luminosity, mass-loss rate, and chemical abundances. The oxygen abundance is a key evolutionary diagnostic, and with higher resolution data and an improved stellar atmosphere code, we found the oxygen abundance to be up to a factor of 5 lower than that of previous studies. The second evolutionary question revolves around the formation of WR stars: do they evolve by themselves or is a close companion star necessary for their formation? Using our derived physical parameters, we compared our results to the Geneva single-star evolutionary models and the Binary Population and Spectral Synthesis (BPASS) binary evolutionary models. We found that both the Geneva solar-metallicity models and BPASS LMC-metallicity models are in agreement with the four WC-type stars, while the Geneva LMC-metallicity models are not. Therefore, these four WC4 stars could have been formed either via binary or single-star evolution.

Several approaches are known to generalize the shift operator in the complex domain. Specific generalization procedures lead to significantly different operators of the shift type even in one specific area of complex analysis. In this paper, a certain general operator of the shift type is defined. The properties of this operator are studied and the question of the continuity of this definition is considered. The properties of a certain operator to a certain extent re-peat the properties of the previously studied operators of the shift type. This allows us to speak of the possibility of extending the main results on spectral synthesis in the complex domain to convolutional equations of a more general form.

The traditional approach to solving a specific problem of spectral synthesis in a complex domain involves reducing it to the problem of local description of closed submodules in a certain space of entire functions. The last problem is split into checking the stability and saturation of the submodule under study. This approach turned out to be very effective, for example, in the study of submodules of local rank 1 and in the study of submodules in topological modules associated with unbounded convex domains. Recent studies on spectral synthesis in the complex domain are based on a different scheme. This scheme involves reducing the problem of local description to checking the density of polynomials in a special module of entire functions of exponential type. Moreover, the space under study is a separable locally convex space of type (LN)*. Polynomial approximation in such a space is understood by us as sequential approximation, that is, we are talking about the approximation of space elements by ordinary (not generalized) sequences of polynomials. In this article, we study a special locally convex module of entire vector functions over the ring of polynomials in the degree of the independent variable. The theorem proved in the article can serve as a source of new results on spectral synthesis in the complex domain.
