Enjoying an Empty Edifice

This paper reaffirms the methodological potentials of Lacanian psychoanalysis for the theories of nationalism. From the Lacanian perspective, national consciousness and self-determination are only possible in the fantasmatic frame­work through the (mis)recognition and retroactive construction. National imagination is the form of transference, necessary for performing the nation through invented traditions and rituals. However, beyond symbolization and imaginary (mis)recognition, there is always something that resists closure, linked with the subjects' desire and organized around the lack of the subjects' full enjoyment. Taking together all these aspects, we build an analytical framework for the study of nationalism, which comprises a quadruple system of identifications by referring to the concepts of Ideal-Ego, Ego-Ideal, Super-Ego and specular Other, and illustrate it through the example of the AKP's Turkish nationalism.

Seeing Things Within and Beyond The Mirror: An Analysis Of “The Lady In The Looking Glass: A Reflection”

Virginia Woolf a highly appreciated writer both for her literary-critical insight and innovative writing techniques explores the role and character of women in society to reveal the truth and reality of their nature. Woolf in her works surfaces forth the inner discomfort of apparently integrated and a whole individual. In “The Lady in The Looking Glass: A Reflection” (1929) Woolf employs the stream of consciousness technique to communicate the thoughts of a narrator who ponders an image of Isabella Tyson to unveil the nature of truth and reality of her person by opening the intricate layers of her appearance. This paper explores the concept of the split self with reference to the character of Isabella to see the impact of the other on/in the construction of self. Lacan’s concept of the mirror stage is used as a theoretical framework to see how Isabella’s character is put in the external symbolic order and is alienated from its own history to examine how the self can be conceptualized and affected by the interplay of various forces and the inside form in and through other. This study demonstrates that Isabella’s self-image is the distorted product of the ideal ego and ego ideal and is made and changed by acting towards others to make them believe what they see in her as true of her.

The transmission of crime as work in Turkey: Identification and strategic mutuality

Bourdieusian criminology has produced useful concepts such as the street-criminal field, capital and habitus. In employing these concepts, this article demonstrates the importance of the criminal role model-image, such as the respected career criminal, as an ego-ideal among lower class youths who identify with these role models, acquiring bodily and mental criminal dispositions using the results of ethnographic research conducted in a run-down district in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. Focusing on a non-Western context with an original theoretical articulation, this article further suggests that the affective relationship between these disadvantaged lower class youths and respected older criminals lubricates the youths’ formation of criminal habitus and likewise constitutes a ‘strategic mutuality’ flowing through certain practices in the street-criminal fields. The original finding lies in revealing a strategic affinity transmitting knowledge of criminal techniques and skills across generations, and further making crime as work a reliable source of income for disadvantaged youths.

Karakter menjadi isu terpenting dunia pendidikan saat ini. PAUD sai Prema Kumara adalah sebuah sekolah yang memokuskan perhatian terbesarnya kepada karakter siswa. Komitmen tersebut diterjemahkan menjadi pola pembelajaran yang disebut sebagai educare. Istilah ini kemudian diterjemahkan ke dalam beberapa strategi penerapan pembelajaran, yaitu penanaman disiplin diri melalui pembelajaran berbasis yoga atau meditasi, praksis keseharian berupa berpikir, berkata, dan berbuat yang baik, serta penanaman nilai-nilai cinta kasih kepada sesama dalam setiap kesempatan. selain itu, keteladanan guru di sekolah dan keterlibatan para orang tua atau keluarga menjadi kunci utama pembentukan karakter berbasis educare di PAUD sai Prema Kumara Denpasar. semua hal tersebut dapat dipandang sangat menunjang siswa dalam membentuk antikateksis-antikateksis pribadi dan ego-ideal.

The Echo of the Object: On the Pain of Self-Hearing in The Nigger of the “Narcissus” and “The Fact of Blackness”

Chapter Two searches for a mode of reading that might repair the sonorous after-life, or echoes, of racism in narrative and text. Echo is defined by slap-back, or a doubling. This doubling locates, as a counterpart to the Freudian subject (the ego ideal), a “voice ideal.” It is defined by the melancholy of race in relation to foreign traces, colonial accent, and slurs. The instantiating case of the study is Conrad’s third novel, The Nigger of the “Narcissus”, but as a counterpart to psychoanalysis in Sigmund Freud’s “On Narcissism” and Frantz Fanon’s “The Fact of Blackness.” The chapter concludes with William Faulkner’s intensive engagement with Conrad in The Sound and the Fury, as it amounts to Faulkner finding his “voice” as a writer of the American South through the echo of Conrad’s racial melancholy.

DINAMIKA PSIKOLOGIS PASIEN SKIZOFRENIA RESIDUAL

Skizofrenia residual merupakan keadaan kronis dari skizofrenia dengan riwayat sedikitnya satu episode psikotik yang jelas dan gejala-gejala berkembang kearah gejala negative yang lebih menonjol. Seorang perempuan bernama M, berusia 26 tahun, dan menikah. M sering mendapatkan kekerasan dari ayahnya sejak kecil sampai menikah. Kemunduran fungsi psikologis kemudian terjadi. Gejala yang ditunjukkan oleh M yaitu keluyuran ke tetangga dan tidak mau pulang, mencuri barang-barang tetangga, memaki tetangga, berbicara dan tertawa sendiri, telanjang di dalam rumah, dan tidak mandi beberapa hari. Adanya halusinasi visual dan halusinasi auditori yang dialami M. Hasil integrasi tes psikologi menunjukkan tanda-tanda patologis, yaitu perasaan cemas, tidak percaya diri, perasaan tidak mampu, perasaan tertekan, inadekuat ego control. Dinamika psikologi M menujukkan adanya pengalaman traumatic akan kekerasan yang direpres. Konflik yang berkembang dengan ayah sehingga menghasilkan kompleks antara ego alien dan ego ideal. Kata Kunci : skizofrenia residual, diagnosis, ego
