Based on th Indonesian Geographical Feature Catalogue (KUGI), the Indonesian Topographic Map (RBI) has 6 feature categories with 152 land cover classification features. Therefore, for land-use suitability analysis purposes, the RBI land cover classification needs to be simplified. This study aims to simplify the classification of RBI's land cover element categories and analyze the suitability of residential areas based on land cover and land-use variables. A case study of land cover classification and land-use suitability for settlements was conducted for the Central Kalimantan province. As a result, the land cover classifications of Central Kalimantan Province are grouped into 15 categories. Most of the land cover in Central Kalimantan is the forest with covering 65% of the area. Meanwhile, the suitability of residential areas based on land cover and land use variables spread following the spatial distribution of shrubland and bare land covering 16% of Central Kalimantan.

Evaluation of Land Use Suitability in Aceh Province's Krueng Lamnyong River BorderAbstract. The river border is a buffer area between aquatic ecosystems (rivers) and land. The Krueng Lamnyong River is located in Banda Aceh City and Aceh Besar District which is the downstream area of the Krueng Aceh river. The Krueng Lamnyong river border has been used by various parties for various purposes.  This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the land use of the Krueng Lamnyong river border based on the legislation. Identification and evaluation of land use in the Krueng Lamnyong river border using Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The results showed that the use of the Krueng Lamnyong river border obtain 10 types of land use. The use of the Krueng Lamnyong river border identified according to its designation is 110.91 Ha or 68.13% consisting of irrigation, roads, rice fields, grass, crops, and vacant land. The use that is not in accordance with the designation is 51.88 Ha or 31.87% consisting of build space, gardens, mangrove vegetation, and tree canopies.

Since at least half of the world’s population resides and works within coastal land, the coastal zone processes and resource management is of great economic and social importance. One of the fundamental issues for coastal city planners, researchers, managers, and engineers is the coastal city land-use suitability. Land-use suitability is the ability of a given type of land to support a defined use. Rapid urbanization and consequent haphazard growth of cities result in deterioration of infrastructure facilities, loss of agricultural land, water bodies, open spaces, and many micro-climatic changes. Hence, accurate data on coastal city hazards are essential and valuable tools for coastal planning and management, sustainable coastal development, coastal environment conservation, selection of a site for coastal city structures, and coastal resources. In this investigation, the Delphi and Analytical Hierarchy Process (D-AHP) Hybrid model and Geographic Information System (GIS) technique for Coastal Land-Use Assessment (CLUA) are mapped to detect the most suitable and unsuitable areas in the Kuala Terengganu coastal zone. Furthermore, this research offered information not only on the present urban land-use trend and established amenity status in Kuala Terengganu, but also on the suitability of land for the potential establishment of urban facilities for improved urban planning and appropriate decision-making. Using the D-AHP Hybrid model and GIS tool for coastal city management is broadly practical for government, policymakers, and planners to appropriately strategize and plan for the future of coastal cities in Malaysia and other analog coastal cities around the world.

The presence of land use conflicts is often unavoidable as land is finite and a scarce resource. With development as a prime goal, the increasing demands for specific uses make the situation more serious than it was before. In the context of land uses, suitability determines the inherent capacity of the land to perform a defined use with optimum efficiency and sustainability. However, single land use suitability analysis could not answer the overall objective of land allocation. Thus, this study considers the primary and general land uses with the valuable evaluation criteria necessary for simultaneous land use suitability analyses. This paper aims at establishing the relevant and necessary evaluation criteria for Multicriteria Evaluation (MCE) using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for land use suitability analysis for residential, industrial, commercial, agricultural, and forest land uses. The factors which could be used as indicators in land suitability analysis were derived from both literature review and through experts’ knowledge. Correspondingly, the relative importance (weights) of the criteria established were derived using pairwise comparisons through the AHP technique readily available for subsequent GIS analysis. Last, the criteria developed are general in nature and could be replicated and/or altered depending upon the local needs and situations.
