This article focuses on issues of representation and belonging, in an attempt to uncover how popular cinema in Bulgaria caters to national sensitivities while at the same time making the link with the global film industries. The Bulgarian popular feature Love.net (Ilian Djevelekov, 2011) is an example of the shift towards treating filmmaking in Bulgaria as a business as much as a cultural venture. It emerged as part of broader European trends, which put an emphasis on film development, marketing and stars, with the aim to counter Hollywood’s dominant market position. Love.net focuses on the role of the Internet as facilitating love, relations and communication in the contemporary world. On a textual level, and similarly to Love Actually (Richard Curtis, 2003), it explores the six degrees of separation theory, implicitly advocating for a world of interconnectedness. Contextually, Love.net created a sense of virtual belonging among the local online community, allowing them to participate in the film’s development and engage with its interactive marketing. Transnational stars provided a further point of contact and involvement. Through its mixed cast featuring home-grown and locally popular foreign actors, Love.net both channelled and challenged Hollywood, positioning European cinema as similar in glamour and attraction but different in identity.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that COVID-19 is a pandemic, warning the world of a health catastrophe and social, economic, and political disruptions. According to WHO, COVID-19 is transmitted by the transport of respiratory droplets generated by a violent respiratory event such as sneeze and cough directly to susceptible persons, or indirectly through surfaces. The aim of this study is to propose simple physical and mathematical models based on two-phase flow dynamics and droplet separation theory. The proposed mathematical model predicts the contamination range of ejected cough droplets, estimating the safe person-to-person social distance. As a result, the proposed simple model predicted a contamination range of 2.3 m for a male adult. In addition, to understand the behavior of ejected cough droplets, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to investigate the effect on contamination range of cough air flowrate, i.e., body/lung size, droplet size, and droplet drag coefficient. It is found that as the body/lung size decreases, i.e., lower cough flow rate, contamination range decreases, resulting in 1.9 m for an adult female, and 1.4 m for a child. In addition, the model predictions show an appreciable effect of droplet size, and droplet drag coefficient on cough contamination range. In particular, the effect of droplet drag coefficient is of interest, because of its relationship to ambient conditions such as temperature and relative humidity, in which both affect ambient air viscosity, and thus drag coefficient. This is important in investigating the contamination range and person-to-person social-distance as climate changes.

Abstract Small World Effect (or Six Degrees of Separation theory) has generated significant influence in the world. Many researchers and institutes have done lots of work on the study of it. We model Small World Effect by random process and Graph, calculate the probability that any two people i and j in the world can contact each other after n steps (forwarding messages by intermediaries) based on different R (average number of acquaintances everyone has in the world). When R=50 or 80, if , the probability is 0.848 and the search is very likely to happen. When R=150, n=4, this probability is 0.99994, that is, after 4 steps, any two people in the world will establish connection almost surely. In the sense of Dunbar's number (R=150), six degrees of separation becomes four degrees of separation. We propose the concepts of (directed) Random Fuzzy Graph for the very first time which can describe the fact of recognition among people best, because the relation among persons is random and fuzzy.

An improved anisotropic vector Preisach model is proposed in this paper to describe the hysteresis properties of nonoriented (NO) electrical steel sheet (ESS) under 50 Hz rotating magnetic fields. The proposed model consists of three components, static hysteresis component, eddy current component, and excess component, which is based on the iron loss separation theory. The static hysteresis component is constructed by the static vector Preisach model. The proposed model is identified by the measured hysteresis properties under 1 Hz and 50 Hz magnetic fields. Finally, the experimental results prove the effectiveness of the proposed anisotropic vector hysteresis model.

Abstract Phase separation at the molecular scale affects many biological processes. The theoretical requirements for phase separation are fairly minimal, and analogous phenomena may occur at other scales in biology. Here we have examined colony formation in the nematode C. elegans as a possible example of phase separation by a population of organisms. Experimental data and mathematical modeling indicated that, similar to physical condensation processes like phase separation and micelle formation, the population density of worms determines colony formation in a thresholded fashion, with the threshold correctly predicted by phase separation theory. Furthermore, we found that a phenomenon akin to Ostwald ripening – a coarsening seen in many systems that undergo phase separation – occurs. Our results show that populations of organisms can undergo condensation phenomena and phase separation.
