Cultivation and isolation of gut bacteria are necessary for understanding their role in the intestinal ecosystem. We isolated a novel bacterium, designated strain BG01T, from the faeces of a patient with Crohn's disease. Strain BG01T was a strictly anaerobic, rod-shaped, Gram-variable and endospore-forming bacterium. Strain BG01T possessed C12 : 0, C18 : 0 dimethyl aldehyde (DMA) and C18 : 1  ω9c DMA as predominant cellular fatty acids and meso-diaminopimelic acid as a diagnostic diamino acid. Strain BG01T grew at 15–45 °C (optimum, 37 °C), with 0–4 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0–1 %), at pH 6–10 (optimum, pH 7) and was resistant to bile salt, but not to ampicillin, metronidazole, vancomycin and cefoperazone. Butyrate, propionate, oxalacetate and fumarate were produced as fermentation end products from Gifu anaerobic medium broth. Strain BG01T showed 97.7 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, and 92.0 and 48.5 % of average nucleotide identity and digital DNA–DNA hybridization values, respectively, with Anaerostipes caccae KCTC 15019T. Genomic analysis indicated that strain BG01T had a butyrate-producing pathway. The genomic G+C content of the strain was 43.5 mol%. Results of the phenotypic, phylogenetic and genotypic analyses indicated that strain BG01T represents a novel butyrate-producing species of the genus Anaerostipes , for which the name Anaerostipes hominis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is BG01T (=KCTC 15617T=JCM 32275T).

A novel bacterium, designated strain CAU 1637T, was isolated from a tidal mudflat. Cells of strain CAU 1637T were Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile with single flagellum and rod-shaped. The optimum conditions for growth were observed at 30 °C, pH 6.0 and in the presence of 2 % (w/v) NaCl. The respiratory quinone was ubiquinone-10. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain CAU 1637T was closely related to the genus Roseibium , with the highest similarity to Roseibium aestuarii NRBC 112946T (97.4 %), followed by Roseibium hamelinense NRBC 16783T (96.8 %), Roseibium aquae JCM 19310T (96.4 %), Roseibium sediminis KCTC 52373T (95.8 %) and Roseibium denhamense JCM 10543T (95.3 %). The predominant cellular fatty acids were C18 : 1  ω7c 11-methyl and summed feature 8 (C18 : 1  ω7c and/or C18 : 1  ω6c). The major polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylglycerol. The average nucleotide identity values between the novel isolate and related strains ranged from 71.0 to 76.4 %, and the DNA−DNA hybridization values ranged from 19.3 to 20.3 %. The G+C content was 58.4 mol% and the whole-genome size was 4.6 Mb, which included 17 contigs and 3931 protein-coding genes. Based on the taxonomic data, strain CAU 1637T represents a novel species of the genus Roseibium , for which the name Roseibium limicola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CAU 1637T (=KCTC 82429T=MCCC 1K06080T).

A novel bacterium, strain SJAQ100T, was isolated from a freshwater aquarium and was characterized taxonomically and phylogenetically. Strain SJAQ100T was a Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped and non-motile bacterium. The strain grew optimally with 0 % NaCl and at 25–37 °C on Reasoner's 2A agar. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that the strain SJAQ100T clustered with members of Burkholderiales incertae sedis in the order Burkholderiales , but sequence similarities to known species were less than 96.5 %. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain SJAQ100T was 71.2 mol%. Genomic comparisons of strain SJAQ100T with species in the order Burkholderiales were made using the Genome-to-Genome Distance Calculator, average nucleotide identity and average amino acid identity analyses (values indicated ≤22.1, ≤78.1, and ≤68.1 % respectively). Strain SJAQ100T contained C16 : 0 and C16 : 1  ω7c/C16 : 1  ω6c as major fatty acids and Q-8 as the major quinone. The major polyamines were putrescine and cadaverine. Strain SJAQ100T contained phosphatidylethanolamine and diphosphatidylglycerol as major polar lipids. Based on the genotypic, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic results, strain SJAQ100T represents a novel genus and species, Aquariibacter albus gen. nov., sp. nov., which belongs to order Burkholderiales and the class Betaproteobacteria . The type strain is SJAQ100T (=KCTC 72203T=CGMCC 1.18869T=MCC 4385T).

Strain SJQ9T, an aerobic bacterium isolated from a soil sample collected in Shanghai, PR China, was characterized using a polyphasic approach. It grew optimally at pH 7.0, 30–35 °C and in the presence of 1 % (w/v) NaCl. A comparative analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SJQ9T fell within the genus Aquabacterium . The closest phylogenetic relatives of strain SJQ9T were Aquabacterium citratiphilum DSM 11900T (98.6 % sequence similarity) and Aquabacterium commune DSM 11901T (96.4 %). Cells of the strain were Gram-stain-negative, motile, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped and positive for oxidase activity and negative for catalase. The chemotaxonomic properties of strain SJQ9T were consistent with those of the genus Aquabacterium : the major fatty acid was summed feature 3 (C16 : 1  ω6c and/or C16 : 1  ω7c). The isoprenoid quinone was Q-8. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. The DNA G+C content was 65.7 mol%. Strain SH9T exhibited a DNA–DNA relatedness level of 34±2 % with A. citratiphilum DSM 11900T and 28±3 % with A. commune DSM 11901T. Based on the obtained data, strain SJQ9T represents a novel species of the genus Aquabacterium , for which the name Aquabacterium soli sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SJQ9T (=JCM 33106T=CCTCC AB 2018284T).

A novel bacterium, designated strain Msb3T, was recently isolated from leaves of the yam family plant Dioscorea bulbifera (Dioscoreaceae). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that this strain belonged to the genus Paraburkholderia with Paraburkholderia xenovorans as nearest validly named neighbour taxon (99.3 % sequence similarity towards the P. xenovorans type strain). Earlier genome sequence analysis revealed a genome of 8.35 Mb in size with a G+C content of 62.5 mol%, which was distributed over two chromosomes and three plasmids. Here, we confirm that strain Msb3T represents a novel Paraburkholderia species. In silico DNA–DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity (OrthoANIu) analyses towards P. xenovorans LB400T yielded 58.4 % dDDH and 94.5 % orthoANIu. Phenotypic and metabolic characterization revealed growth at 15 °C on tryptic soy agar, growth in the presence of 1 % NaCl and the lack of assimilation of phenylacetic acid as distinctive features. Together, these data demonstrate that strain Msb3T represents a novel species of the genus Paraburkholderia, for which we propose the name Paraburkholderia dioscoreae sp. nov. The type strain is Msb3T (=LMG 31881T, DSM 111632T, CECT 30342T).
