Results of experimental and theoretical investigation of electron-impact excitation of the 6s26d D2→6s26p P2o spectral transitions from the ground 6s26p P21/2o level in the Pb+ ion are presented. The experimental excitation functions for the transitions, measured by a VUV spectroscopy method, using the crossed electron and ion beams technique, reveal a rather distinct resonance structure resulting mainly from the electron decay of both atomic and ionic autoionizing states. The absolute values of the emission cross-sections, obtained by normalizing the experimental data at the incident electron energy 100 eV by those calculated using the Flexible Atomic Code software package, were found to be (0.35 ± 0.17) × 10–16 cm2 for the 6s26d D23/2 → 6s26p P21/2o (λ143.4 nm) transition and (0.19 ± 0.09) × 10–16 cm2 for the 6s26d D25/2 → 6s26p P23/2o (λ182.2 nm) transition.

Samarium (Sm)-doped calcium–strontium–hydroxyapatite (Ca–Sr–HA:Sm) materials were designed and prepared, and the influence of Sr-introduction on the structure, photoluminescence (PL) and cytotoxicity of samples was revealed. The Sr-doping deduces the shift of some diffraction peaks to smaller angles and enlarges the particle size of samples. The typical red– orange emissions and corresponding luminescence quenching of Sm[Formula: see text] were observed, and the optimal luminescence performance appeared when [Formula: see text](Sr) = 7(Sr/Ca = 7/3) and quenching concentration closes to [Formula: see text](Sm) = 0.8 mol.%. The non-radiative transitions and energy transfers due to the dipole–dipole interactions between ions with different symmetry are essential to the luminescence and quenching of Sm[Formula: see text]. Furthermore, the viability values of human HepG2 cells are calculated larger than 90%, and the red–orange color emission was observed when the particles are incubated with cells.

Lead-based halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are recognized as emerging emissive materials with superior photoluminescence (PL) properties. However, the toxicity of lead and the swift chemical decomposition under atmospheric moisture severely hinder their commercialization process. Herein, we report the first colloidal synthesis of lead-free Cs4CuIn2Cl12 layered double perovskite NCs via a facile moisture-assisted hot-injection method stemming from relatively nontoxic precursors. While moisture is typically detrimental to NC synthesis, we demonstrate that the presence of water molecules in Cs4CuIn2Cl12 synthesis enhances the PL quantum yield (mainly in the near-UV range), induces a morphological transformation from 3D nanocubes to 2D nanoplatelets, and converts the dark transitions to radiative transitions for the observed self-trapped excitons relaxation. This work paves the way for further studies on the moisture-assisted synthesis of novel lead-free halide perovskite NCs for a wide range of applications.
