Visual search depends on both the foveal and peripheral visual system, yet the foveal attention mechanisms is still lack of insights. We simultaneously recorded the foveal and peripheral activities in V4, IT and LPFC, while monkeys performed a category-based visual search task. Feature attention enhanced responses of Face-selective, House-selective, and Non-selective foveal cells in visual cortex. While foveal attention effects appeared no matter the peripheral attention effects, paying attention to the foveal stimulus dissipated the peripheral feature attentional effects, and delayed the peripheral spatial attentional effects. When target features appeared both in the foveal and the peripheral, feature attention effects seemed to occur predominately in the foveal, which might not distribute across the visual field according to common view of distributed feature attention effects. As a result, the parallel attentive process seemed to occur during distractor fixations, while the serial process predominated during target fixations in visual search.

The article discusses the issue of automating the serial process of bleeding and control of the pitot- static system of passenger airplanes. A functional diagram and basic design of some parts of the combined equipment are proposed. This equipment makes it possible to alternate the above-mentioned operations with great effectiveness. At the system control stage, the pressure or vacuum in it is created by a pressure-vacuum pneumatic unit. This pneumatic unit consists of a compressor and a set of electromagnetic valves that allow the compressor to be connected to the pumping or scavenging line. The value of the generated pressure is regulated by the flow rate in the pressure/scavenging channel and in the venting channel. Simulation of changes in ambient temperature is achieved due to blowing heated or cooled air over the temperature sensors of the aircraft. Pressure or vacuum in the controlled system is created in turn, in each of its lines. At the expulsion stage, a compressed-nitrogen cylinder acts as the pressure source. The pressurized gas passes through the pitot and is released into the atmosphere, cleaning out the contaminations. No manual operations are required for installing and removing connection hoses after connecting the proposed combined equipment to the pitot-static system. Remote-controlled electromagnetic valves connect the channels of the controlled system to the pressure-vacuum pneumatic unit and the source of compressed nitrogen. This reduces the duration of successive operations for the systems maintenance.

Research has identified humor as a communication technique that can help sellers be more effective during their sales pitches. However, the most developed theory of humor – that is, the arousal-safety (or relief) theory – posits some relieving power of humor but has never been applied to the selling context, although such a power could reveal interesting for sellers. Therefore, in this research, we adopt a seller’s perspective and apply this theory to investigate how sellers’ feelings of relief following their use of humor can positively affect their performance during negotiations. More specifically, we investigate the serial process whereby feelings of relief that emerge from humor increase relationship quality and ultimately performance. Finally, we identify empathy as a boundary condition for the effects of humor and subsequent responses, with humor prompting greater feelings of relief when sellers have little empathy with the purchaser. Using a sample of 200 trained students in B2B sales management and a sample of 157 professional sellers, we empirically test and support these predictions, which serve as a basis for managerial recommendations.

AbstractAt present, Multi-Devices-Process Integrated Scheduling Algorithm with Time-Selective Strategy for Process Sequence (MISATPS) is an advanced algorithm in the field of integrated scheduling with multi-devices-process problems. This algorithm ignores the influence of the pre-process on the post-process when solving the multi-devices-process integrated scheduling problem, which leads to the problem of poor closeness between serial processes and poor parallelism between parallel processes. This paper points out that there is no restriction of scheduling sequence between parallel processes on the same processing device. It can be scheduled flexibly of the sequence between parallel processes of the same device. Therefore, based on the scheduling scheme of MISATPS, the algorithm is improved by applying the interchange strategy and the interchange adjustment strategy of multi-device adjacent parallel process. In this way, the influence of the pre-process on the post-process is avoided, the compactness of the serial process and the parallelism of the parallel process are improved, and the scheduling result is optimized.

Abstract The current integrated scheduling algorithm ignores the influence of the pre-process on the post-process when solving the multi-device-process integrated scheduling problem, which leads to the problem of poor tightness between serial processes and low parallelism between parallel processes. This paper points out that there is no restriction of scheduling sequence between adjacent parallel processes on the same processing device, and the scheduling sequence between parallel processes on the same device can be flexibly processed to optimize the scheduling results, on the basis of the current algorithm scheduling scheme, this paper proposes the application of multi-device adjacent parallel process interchange strategy and multi-device adjacent parallel process interchange adjustment strategy, which avoid the influence of the pre-process on the post-process, improves the compactness of the serial process and the parallelism of the parallel process, and optimizes the scheduling results.

This paper is in view of the current algorithm to solve Multiple-Devices-Process integrated scheduling problems without considering parallel process between the parallel processing. Meanwhile, the influence of the first processing procedure on the second processing procedure is ignored, resulting in poor tightness between serial processes and poor parallelism between parallel processes, ultimately affecting the product scheduling results. We proposed Multiple-Devices-Process integrated scheduling algorithm with time-selective for process sequence. The proposed Multiple-Devices-Process sequencing strategy determines the process of scheduling order and improves the tightness between serial process. This paper presents a method to determine the quasischeduling time point of the multiequipment process, the time-selective strategy of Multiple-Devices-Process, and the time-selective adjustment strategy of Multiple-Devices-Process so that the first and the second processing processes cooperate with each other, and the purpose of improving the tightness of the serial process and the parallelism of the parallel processes is achieved, so as to shorten the product processing time.

This chapter explores the omission of the essay from psychoanalytic literature, both as a form to which analysts refer, and as one in which they write. The absence of the word from the titles of professional publications, and the sense that the essays of psychoanalysts are a truancy from institutional forms, suggest that the essay’s scepticism and unfinishedness are in opposition to psychoanalytic expertise. The avoidance, even repression, of the form reveals what psychoanalysis denies in order to become an institution. As the example of Freud’s Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality shows, however, the essay’s experimentalism, provisionality, and incompletion are in fact analogous both to Freud’s account of desire and sexuality, and to the serial process of psychoanalytic treatment. The essay’s privileging of the useful and interesting over the right and perfected offers both a model for psychoanalysis, and, despite its neglect, an apt form for its insights.

Abstract This study intends to test the Graded Salience Hypothesis, in order to investigate the factors involved in comprehension. This research considered predictions derived from this hypothesis by evaluating the salience of idioms in the Persian language. We intended to measure Reading Time (RTs), and the design comprised 2 Contexts (figurative, literal), 3 Types of Statements (familiar vs. unfamiliar vs. less familiar) and RTs (long, short, equal). Two types of contexts (figuratively inviting and literally inviting contexts) were prepared. The software for this experiment was prepared for the purpose of self-paced reading experiments. Two pretests were performed. In the first pretest, participants rated the expressions on a 1–7 familiarity scale. The second pretest was designed to confirm that contexts are equally supportive. Then, expressions were divided according to their familiarity (familiar, less-familiar, unfamiliar). Sentences were used so that, according to the second pretest, their contexts would be equally supportive. Sentences were displayed on a PC, controlled by Windows 7. The self-paced reading task was applied using the Moving Windows software. In the first part of the experiment, participants read each idiom in figuratively inviting contexts and their RTs were recorded. In the second part of the experiment, participants read each idiom in literally inviting contexts and their RTs were recorded. Results of testing these idioms support the Graded Salience Hypothesis, but not entirely. Such findings suggested that sometimes context affects the access of salient information and a semi serial process is witnessed. Results indicate that the salient meaning of both familiar and less familiar idioms is figurative. In addition, salient meanings in the space following the unfamiliar idiom and the first word of the next (spillover) sentence, were both, figurative and literal.
