The digital transformation is turning archives, both old and new, into data. As a consequence, automation in the form of artificial intelligence techniques is increasingly applied both to scale traditional recordkeeping activities, and to experiment with novel ways to capture, organise, and access records. We survey recent developments at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and archival thinking and practice. Our overview of this growing body of literature is organised through the lenses of the Records Continuum model. We find four broad themes in the literature on archives and artificial intelligence: theoretical and professional considerations, the automation of recordkeeping processes, organising and accessing archives, and novel forms of digital archives. We conclude by underlining emerging trends and directions for future work, which include the application of recordkeeping principles to the very data and processes that power modern artificial intelligence and a more structural—yet critically aware—integration of artificial intelligence into archival systems and practice.

The history of information practices in Japan runs parallel to its larger cultural influences — namely its long history of adaptation of the cultures of China and Korea, with a more recent turn towards the West. The soft power, the use of culture to extend influence over a foreign country, exerted by the US on Japanese libraries and archives can be felt in official policies and professional practices. In order to understand the variation and complicated nature of hegemonic influences the West has had on Japan's information culture, this paper will examine the history of librarianship and archival practices via the lens of practices imported to and/or avoided by the nation.

The effectiveness of employees was influenced by many factors, including the implementation of archival systems and infrastructure. This article discussed the results of research about the impact of implementation of archival system and infrastructure toward the effectiveness of employees’ performance in Bureau of Personnel of Indonesia University of Education. The research was conducted by using explanatory survey method, data were collected by using Likert scale model questionnaire, given to the population of 28 employees of the Bureau of Personnel of Indonesia University of Education. The results of data analysis showed that the percentage of implementation of archival system, infrastructure and effectiveness of employees’ performance were still in low score. However, the implementation of archival systems and infrastructure had a positive and significant effect on the effectiveness of employees' performance, either simultaneously or partially. Therefore, the effectiveness of employees can be improved through implementation of archival system and good infrastructure.ABSTRAKEfektivitas kerja pegawai dipengaruhi oleh banyak faktor, diantaranya adalah implementasi sistem kearsipan dan sarana prasarana. Artikel ini membahas hasil penelitian tentang dampak implementasi sistem kearsipan dan sarana prasarana terhadap efektivitas kerja pegawai di Biro Kepegawaian UPI. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode explanatory survey, data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan angket model likert scale yang diberikan kepada populasi sejumlah 28 orang pegawai Biro Kepegawaian UPI. Hasil analisa data menunjukkan bahwa presentase implementasi sistem kearsipan, sarana prasarana dan efektivitas kerja pegawai masih kecil. Namun demikian, implementasi sistem kearsipan dan sarana prasarana memiliki pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan terhadap efektivitas kerja pegawai baik secara simultan maupun parsial. Oleh karena itu, efektivitas kerja pegawai dapat ditingkatkan melalui impelementasi sistem kearsipan dan sarana prasarana yang baik.

In the multi-millennial history of archives four successive paradigms can be distinguished. In the archival systems that can be designated respectively as entitlement-attestation, national, public, and global ones, their primary or new objectives, key institutions, specialists and target audience as well as applied information technologies and characteristic problems show significant differences. Alongside enduring elements of continuity new key features, functions and impacts appear, which together fundamentally change the actual role and ideology of archives. With an information-centered approach, this study attempts to include the most important characteristics of these respective archival paradigms in one coherent system, with a brief overview of the challenges the archives of the future may face.
