Abstract OAO 1657-415 is an atypical supergiant X-ray binary among wind-fed and disk-fed systems, showing alternate spin-up/spin-down intervals lasting on the order of tens of days. We study different torque states of OAO 1657-415 based on the spin history monitored by Fermi/GBM, together with fluxes from Swift/BAT and MAXI/GSC. Its spin frequency derivatives are well correlated with Swift/BAT fluxes during rapid spin-up episodes, anti-correlated with Swift/BAT fluxes during rapid spin-down episodes, and not correlated in between. The orbital profile of spin-down episodes is reduced by a factor of 2 around orbital phases of 0.2 and 0.8 compared to that of spin-up episodes. The orbital hardness ratio profile of spin-down episodes is also lower than that of spin-up episodes around phases close to the mid-eclipse, implying that there is more material between the neutron star and the observer for spin-down episodes than for spin-up episodes around these phases. These results indicate that the torque state of the neutron star is connected with the material flow on orbital scale and support the retrograde/prograde disk accretion scenario for spin-down/spin-up torque reversal.

The aim of the study was to investigate if there are changes in elastographic parameters in the cervix at term around the time of delivery and if there are differences in the parameters between women with spontaneous labor and those without labor (labor induction). Nulliparous women at 36 weeks of gestation eligible for vaginal delivery were enrolled. Cervical elastography was performed and cervical length were measured using the E-CervixTM system (WS80A Ultrasound System, Samsung Medison, Seoul, Korea) at each weekly antenatal visit until admission for spontaneous labor or labor induction. E-Cervix parameters of interest included elasticity contrast index (ECI), internal os strain mean level (IOS), external os strain mean level (EOS), IOS/EOS strain mean ratio, strain mean level, and hardness ratio. Regression analysis was performed using days from elastographic measurement at each visit to admission for delivery and the presence or absence of labor against cervical length, and each E-Cervix parameter fitted to a linear model for longitudinal data measured repeatedly. A total of 96 women were included in the analysis, (spontaneous labor, n = 39; labor induction, n = 57). Baseline characteristics were not different between the two groups except for cesarean delivery rate. Cervical length decreased with advancing gestation and was different between the two groups. Most elastographic parameters including ECI, IOS, EOS, strain mean, and hardness ratio were significantly different between the two groups. In addition, ECI, IOS, and strain mean values significantly increased with advancing gestation. Our longitudinal study using ultrasound elastography indicated that E-cervix parameters tended to change linearly at term near the time of admission for delivery and that there were differences in E-Cervix parameters according to the presence or absence of labor.

We explored the statistical properties of short-term X-ray variability using long-exposure XMM-Newton data during high X-ray variability phases of blazars S5 0716+714 and PKS 2155-304. In general, the hardness ratio shows correlated variations with the source flux state (count rate), but in a few cases, mainly the bright phases, the trend is complex with both correlation and anti-correlation, indicating spectral evolution. Stationarity tests suggest the time series are non-stationarity or have trend stationarity. Except for one, none of the histogram fits resulted in a reduced-χ2∼1 for a normal and log-normal profile but a normal profile is favored in general. On the contrary, the Anderson–Darling test favors log-normal with a test-statistic value lower for log-normal over normal for all the observations, even if out of significance limits. None of the IDs show linear RMS-flux relation. The contrary inferences from different widely used statistical methods indicate that a careful analysis is needed while the complex behavior of count rate with hardness ratio suggests spectral evolution over a few 10 s of kilo-seconds during bright phases of the sources. In these cases, the spectrum extracted from whole observation may not be meaningful for spectral studies and certainly not a true representation of the spectral state of the source.

The current in vitro study evaluated the Vickers hardness number (VHN) and hardness ratio of four bulk-fill composites (VisCalor bulk; Admira Fusion x-tra; x-tra fil; and GrandioSO x-tra-Voco, Cuxhaven, Germany) to assess the risk of bacterial colonization in comparison with standard composite materials. Thirty samples were prepared for each group. The VHN of both the external (top) and internal surface (bottom) was determined with a micro-hardness tester (200 g load for 15 s), and the hardness ratio was also calculated for each sample. Subsequently, storage in an acidic soft drink (Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Company, Milano, Italy) was performed; for each group, 10 samples were stored for 1 day, while another 10 were stored for 7 days and the remaining 10 were kept in water as controls. A significant reduction in VHN was shown for all the groups when comparing the external versus internal side (P < 0.05), although the hardness ratio was greater than 0.80, resulting in an adequate polymerization. Regarding the acid storage, all the groups showed a significant decrease of VHN when compared with the controls, both after 1 day (P < 0.05) and after 7 days (P < 0.001). All the products showed adequate depth of cure without further risk of bacterial colonization. However, acid exposure negatively affected micro-hardness values, which might promote subsequent colonization.
