Toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) is a rapid-onset inflammation of the eye following uneventful ocular surgery. We report a case of TASS following Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) surgery. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) identified barium in the eye and in the eluate from the bleb of the BGI. We attribute TASS in our patient to the dissolution of barium from the BGI and its entry into the eye, where it causes severe inflammation.

Abstract Background: Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is increasingly used worldwide to correct a wide range of refractive errors. Toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS), a noninfectious inflammatory disease with symptoms and signs that resemble bacterial infection, is a rare complication of LASIK. Case presentation: We report a case of TASS in a 42-year-old male patient after LASIK surgery in both eyes for hyperopia. Diagnosed clinically. Discussion and conclusion: Little information about complications after LASIK is available. TASS is a general term used to describe acute, sterile postoperative anterior segment reactions. Patients with TASS will often experience blurry vision with or without pain within 12 to 48 hours after surgery. Steroids have shown to be effective in resolving the inflammatory response, reducing the pain and recovering the vision.

Cataract surgery is ranked among the most frequent operations, affecting a population over 65 years of age.Its prognosis is often favorable, however, there are rare complications including inflammation of the anterior segment known as Anterior Segment Toxicity Syndrome . the majority of our patients were men and diabetes appear in almost half and all our patients present various symptoms the first 24 hours dominated by the attack of the anterior segment our therapeutic attitude consists in the use of corticosteroids and hypotonizers with a good evolution in the majority of patients.

This review presents the literature data on the etiology, clinical symptoms, differential diagnosis and methods of treatment of toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS) – one of the complications of eye surgery. Despite the rare occurrence, in severe cases, the syndrome leads to a significant and persistent decrease in vision. The recommendations proposed by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons for the prevention of the syndrome allow to avoid its occurrence. Key words: corneal edema, toxic anterior segment syndrome, surgical instruments, intracameral drug injection.

A case of severe anterior segment toxicity secondary to high-volume, undiluted intracameral moxifloxacin for endophthalmitis prophylaxis is reported. We examine the other reported cases of toxicity after intracameral moxifloxacin, as well as iris depigmentation and transillumination syndromes after oral and topical fluoroquinolone exposure. Additionally, we review the literature on safety, efficacy, and appropriate dosing of intracameral antibiotics with a focus on moxifloxacin.
