This article currently focuses on the problems of university communications with target groups in the Czech Republic. This issue has been chosen with respect to the ongoing demographic crisis causing a decrease in the number of prospective university applicants. The topic reflects new trends in effective communication of university, i.e. social media communications and concentrates on prospective university applicants. The presented study introduces the results of sub-analyses carried out within selected Czech universities. The sub-analyses dealt with the problems of university social media profiles and their conceptuality, approach of individual universities towards profile administration and the importance of involving fans into communications on Czech university profiles. The necessary data have been gained using both primary and secondary research as well as with help of social media monitoring by Newton Media. The study concludes with the identification of common and different attributes of Czech universities´ social media communications and with suggestions as to how to make these communications more effective.

Every day over 2.5 quintillion data is generated using various channels like online surveys, transactional data tracking, social media monitoring, etc. Out of these majority of the data is generated using social media platforms. This raw data contains information that can be used for industrial, economic, social and business purposes. To facilitate this, sentiment analysis has become a prospect for various tech-based industry giants to review and analyze their products. Hadoop has been established as one of the best tools for storing, processing, and streaming data in the market. In this paper, we present a generic approach to performing sentiment analysis using Apache PIG which classifies the given data taken from a dataset to either positive or negative to get the people’s sentiment over an object or an issue.

BackgroundDifficulties in deploying mental health assessments during disasters have resulted in emerging research examining the use of social media as a population mental health monitoring tool. This review synthesises this literature, with particular focus on research methods and applications.MethodsThe field of social media monitoring of mental health during disasters was rapidly mapped using a scoping review methodology. Six interdisciplinary research databases were searched for relevant articles, with data extracted on the articles’ applications and data collection and analysis methods. Articles were then synthesised via narrative review.ResultsForty-seven papers were identified. Three application themes emerged, including: (i) estimating mental health burden; (ii) planning or evaluating interventions and policies, and (iii) knowledge discovery, where theories of human behaviour and mental health were evaluated. Applications across 30 mental health issues were identified, with mental health typically assessed using established linguistic dictionaries. Features extracted from social media data included linguistic, psycholinguistic, behavioural, and demographic features. Analytic techniques involved machine learning, statistical modelling, and qualitative analyses.ConclusionsThe application of social media monitoring has considerable potential for measuring the mental health impact on populations during disasters. As an emerging field, opportunities for further work were identified to improve mental health assessment methods, examine specific mental health conditions, and trial tools in real-world settings. Platforms integrated with such techniques may offer significant benefits for monitoring mental health in contexts where formal assessments are difficult to deploy, and may potentially be harnessed to monitor the impact of response efforts and intervention delivery.

Vaccine hesitancy does not only concern human vaccines but incorporates One Health policies also; including vaccination of cattle and badgers as part of the government’s bovine tuberculosis eradication strategy for England. Both digital and social media can propagate healthcare misinformation and thus affect vaccine policy support. The use of social media monitoring to understand real-time public perceptions of One Health policies is crucial to identify misinformation and address public concerns appropriately to achieve successful policy implementation. Digital and social media data surrounding two government announcements regarding the bovine tuberculosis eradication strategy for England were collected and screened using the Meltwater media monitoring platform. Communication patterns were studied using InfraNodus. Twitter analysis was conducted to identify key influencers, public engagement, and trending communications. Online social media activity increased rapidly after each announcement. Initially, badger culling took primary public concern and major influencers were identified. Cattle vaccination dominated discussion after the second announcement, with public perception being influenced by increased online activity from news sites, animal welfare charities, governmental bodies, and medical professionals. The greatest ambiguity towards the strategy was detected within farming communities, with the main disparity existing between cattle vaccination and badger culling opinions. Social media monitoring has potential use in surveying public perception of government policy, both prior to, and after implementation to identify and address areas of miscommunication and misinformation to improve public support for One Health policies.
