Applications in security and electronic surveillance require a combination of excellent magnetic softness with good mechanical and anticorrosive properties and low dimensionality. We overviewed the feasibility of using glass-coated microwires for electronic article surveillance and security applications, as well as different routes of tuning the magnetic properties of individual microwires or microwire arrays, making them quite attractive for electronic article surveillance and security applications. We provide the routes for tuning the hysteresis loops’ nonlinearity by the magnetostatic interaction between the microwires in the arrays of different types of amorphous microwires. The presence of neighboring microwire (either Fe- or Co-based) significantly affects the hysteresis loop of the whole microwires array. In a microwires array containing magnetically bistable microwires, we observed splitting of the initially rectangular hysteresis loop with a number of Barkhausen jumps correlated with the number of magnetically bistable microwires. Essentially, nonlinear and irregular hysteresis loops have been observed in mixed arrays containing Fe- and Co-rich microwires. The obtained nonlinearity in hysteresis loops allowed to increase the harmonics and tune their magnetic field dependencies. On the other hand, several routes allowing to tune the switching field by either postprocessing or modifying the magnetoelastic anisotropy have been reviewed. Nonlinear hysteresis loops have been also observed upon devitrification of amorphous microwires. Semihard magnetic microwires have been obtained by annealing of Fe–Pt–Si microwires. The observed unique combination of magnetic properties together with thin dimensions and excellent mechanical and anticorrosive properties provide excellent perspectives for the use of glass-coated microwires for security and electronic surveillance applications.

Nanoparticles, specifically magnetosomes, synthesized in nature by magnetotactic bacteria, are very promising to be usedin magnetic hyperthermia in cancer treatment. In this work, using the solution of the stochastic Landau–Lifshitz equation, we calculate the specific absorption rate (SAR) in an alternating (AC) magnetic field of assemblies of magnetosome chains depending on the particle size D, the distance between particles in a chain a, and the angle of the applied magnetic field with respect to the chain axis. The dependence of SAR on the a/D ratio is shown to have a bell-shaped form with a pronounced maximum. For a dilute oriented chain assembly with optimally chosen a/D ratio, a strong magneto-dipole interaction between the chain particles leads to an almost rectangular hysteresis loop, and to large SAR values in the order of 400–450 W/g at moderate frequencies f = 300 kHz and small magnetic field amplitudes H0 = 50–100 Oe. The maximum SAR value only weakly depends on the diameter of the nanoparticles and the length of the chain. However, a significant decrease in SAR occurs in a dense chain assembly due to the strong magneto-dipole interaction of nanoparticles of different chains.

The nanoscale magnetic composite powders BaFe12O19-ZnFe2O4 were prepared by two-step citrate sol-gel, with analytically pure Fe(NO3)3、Zn(NO3)2 and Ba(NO3)2 as the main materials. The XRD, TEM and VSM were used to analyze the structure, feature and magnetic property of the nano-powder. The results show that the same presoma is calcined in 600°C、650°Cand 700°C obtained BaFe12O19-ZnFe2O4,XRD display for both pure phase, do not contain any mixed phase。The higher the temperature, the content of magnetoplumbite phase increased, corresponding the content of spinel phase low。By hysteresis loop of composite powde BaFe12O19- ZnFe2O4 can see, simple substance BaFe12O19 magnetoplumbite phase has the wasp waist shaped hysteresis loop, simple substance ZnFe2O4 spinel phase has superparamagnetism, but the nanoscale composite powders BaFe12O19-ZnFe2O4 has rectangular hysteresis loop。

Magnetic properties of nano-crystalline yttrium iron garnet, Y3Fe5O12 and bismuth iron garnet, Bi3Fe5O12 were studied. The samples were synthesized by using sol gel route. The gel were prepared using nitrates of yttrium and iron for the yttium iron garnet (YIG) and nitrates of bismuth and iron for the bismuth iron garnet (BIG). The raw materials were mixed and dissolved in citric acid and were stirred for 3 months in room temperature until the gel was observed. The X-ray diffraction pattern reveals the cubic structure of YIG and BIG samples at 7000C and 5000C respectively. From the M-H diagrams it was found that the YIG and BIG samples have saturation magnetization, Ms of 27.2 Gs with rectangular hysteresis loop and 24.4 Gs with S hysteresis loop, respectively. It is evident from the FESEM micrographs that the rectangular loop shape (YIG) arises from the homogeneous and rounded microstructure as compared to the inhomogenous and random orientation microstructure (BIG) of the samples. From the Electron diffraction done on Transmission Electron Microscope, both of the samples were shown to be single crystals.

AbstractModified sol-gel processes have been developed for the preparation of precursor solutions of undoped, La and Ta doped PZT (25/75). These processes use different solvents (methoxyethanol, butoxyethanol) and different lead sources (lead acetate, lead oxide). Due to variations in the structure and in the composition of the solutions, significantly different thermal decomposition behaviors were found. These inevitably affected texture and microstructure of the sol-gel derived thin films, demonstrating the important role of precursor chemistry in the improvement of film properties. In the case of tantalum doped Pt/PZT/Pt ferroelectric capacitors a rectangular hysteresis loop, featuring high Pr, was obtained for one specific precursor chemistry.
