Abstract The evolution of the negative coordinating conjunction (‘neither’/‘nor’) from Latin to Modern French instantiates a type of cyclic development that is previously undocumented as such at the level of morphosyntax, viz. a ‘semasiological’ cycle. In effect, the conjunction appears to have taken an almost perfectly circular path. Thus, in Classical Latin, as is consonant with the typological status of that language as a Double Negation language, neque/nec was exclusively used in negative contexts. Medieval French being a Negative Concord language, on the other hand, its negative coordinating conjunction, ne, a direct descendant of neque/nec, was able to develop a full range of weak negative polarity uses. In a range of contexts, ne was thus semantically equivalent to either the additive conjunction et (‘and’) or the disjunction ou (‘or’). By the end of the Classical French period, however, the conjunction (which by then takes the form ny/ni) has lost all of its weak negative polarity uses again, and it is used only in strong negatively polar environments in Modern Standard French. Based on data from the electronic corpora Frantext and Base de Français Médiéval, I analyze the three stages of this evolution. I show that, together with other developments in the French negative system, it falsifies predictions made in the literature and has consequences for the reconstruction of negative systems in less well-documented languages.

Abstract This preregistered project examines the general belief that news has a beneficial impact on society. We test news exposure effects on desirable outcomes, i.e., political knowledge and participation, and detrimental outcomes, i.e., attitude and affective polarization, negative system perceptions, and worsened individual well-being. We rely on two complementary over-time experiments that combine participants' survey self-reports and their behavioral browsing data: one that incentivized participants taking a ‘news vacation’ for a week (N = 797; 30M visits) in the US, the other of 'news binging' for two weeks (N = 828; 17M visits) in Poland. Across both experiments, we demonstrate that reducing or increasing news exposure has little -- if any -- impact on the positive or negative outcomes tested. These robust null effects emerge irrespective of participants' prior levels of news consumption and whether prior news diet was like-minded, and regardless of compliance levels. We argue that these findings reflect the reality of limited news exposure in the real world, with news exposure comprising roughly 3.5\% of citizens' online information diet.

The purposes of this paper is in order to know about the publication system in enrolling the land that be followed by Indonesia and the form of law protection that can be given to the holder of right. From the description of the writing can be concluded whereas the publication system in enrolling the land is the negative system that contain of positive element. In solving about the weakness of this publication system, so be decided in PP24/1997 Article 32 point (2) namely in the matter about the land that have been issued its certificate on behalf of someone or the law institution that getting it by the good willingness and factually master it, so that the other party who feel have an authority of such land, cannot claim again about the implementation of it right. If in term of time about five (5) years during be issued the certificate do not applied the objection.

Abstract. The auroral emission of the first negative system of N2+ at 427.8 nm is analyzed using simultaneous measurements from the ground with ALIS (Auroral Large Imaging System) and from space with optical (MAC) and particle (ESA) instruments of the Reimei satellite. The study has two main objectives. The first is validation of the absolute calibration of the ALIS and the Reimei MAC cameras. The other task is to evaluate different cross sections of the electron excitation of N2+ that are used for the modeling of the auroral 1N system emissions. The simultaneous measurements of the 427.8 nm emission by ALIS and Reimei imagers show excellent agreement, indicating that the calibration of the two instruments is correct. Comparison of the 427.8 nm emission intensity calculated using the incident electron flux measured by the Reimei particle instruments with intensities measured by the optical imagers show that the best match is reached with the cross section from Shemansky and Liu (2005).

The characteristic properties of the inverted-population-forming processes in lasers with ionizing pumping are considered. Results obtained from research of active laser media concerning the p-s transitions of atoms of neon, mercury, and cadmium are presented. The feasibility of ion-ion recombination in lasers with nuclear pumping is discussed. The excitation kinetics of the first negative system of CO, heteronuclear ionic molecules of inert gases, and halogenides of inert gases under ionizing radiation are considered.
