Background: Oral cancer burden in developing countries is huge. In Bangladesh and India incidence were 10.6% and 10.4% respectively on 2018. At the same time worldwide incident was only 2%. Majority patients present at advanced stage and their survival rate is poor. Diagnostic delay from patient side and health delivery system side is significantly longer and it is more in developing countries. Like other malignancy early diagnosis can save a lot of these patient. Methods: This prospective study was carried out in Khulna Medical College Hospital from July 2017 to July 2019. Patients who will meet the criteria for this prospective study and capable and willing to give informed consent were enrolled. 20 second rinse/gargle with 10ml of 1% Tolonium chloride solution was done. Biopsy were taken from stained lesion, biopsy report were compared with TC stained lesions. Results: Out of 1650 patients in our outdoor department for various problem and only 30 cases were selected for this study according to selection criteria. Of 30 patients, 18 (60%) were male and 12 (40%) were female. The male-to-female ratio was 3:2. It was found that the sensitivity of 1% Tolonium Chloride rinse for oral precancer and cancer detection was 83.33%, whereas the specificity was 84.21%. Conclusion: Tolonium chloride rinse is a good screening test for oral cancer diagnosis with sensitivity 83.33% and specificity 84.21%. Bangladesh J Otorhinolaryngol; April 2020; 26(1): 11-17

SummaryThe purpose of the study was to assess the effects of LED-PAD and tolonium chloride on periodontal clinical parameters in chronic periodontitis. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on patients with chronic periodontitis, divided in 2 groups (study group and control group of patients who, besides the conventional therapy measures, also received PAD therapy). The periodontal clinical parameters were registered at baseline and after 3 months. Results and Discussions: The post-therapy evaluation revealed significantly improved results of periodontal clinical parameters in the study group, when compared to the control group. Our results support the literature studies conducted on chronic periodontitis patients but without any systemic diseases. Conclusion: The PAD disinfection determined a significant improvement for the periodontal clinical parameters in patients with periodontal disease.

Anatase titanium dioxide catalyzed photodegradation of tolonium chloride at various bufferic pH of 2, 7, 9 and 12 in aqueous solution is presented. The effect of some physicochemical parameters such as initial concentration of dye, catalyst amount and reaction time on photocatalytic degradation has been investigated in a photo-reactor cell containing high pressure mercury lamp to obtain the optimum conditions in each bufferic pH at constant temperature. A complete spectrophotometric kinetic study of tolonium chloride under high pressure irradiation at buffer media was performed. The photocatalytic degradation observed rate constants (kobs) were found to be 2.90×10-3, 3.30×10-3, 3.20×10-3and 5.20×10-3min-1for buffer pH of 2-12 respectively. It was found that a pseudo-first-order kinetic model based on Langmuir-Hinshelwood one is usable to photodegradation of this compound at all considered buffer pH. In addition to these, the Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate constants, krfor the titled compound at various pH are reported.
