Dear Reader, Coinciding with the 60th Anniversary of IDMA, a true and vibrant transition phase is commencing for your association, its publications and allied activities. Dr. Viranchi Shah, the young and energetic Hon. President from “Vibrant Gujarat” is taking over the reigns of IDMA, with an equally young team of Executive committee members. We are confident that IDMA’s flag will fly high globally, all the more, in the coming years. It is time that the young (and the long-experienced ones too) get ready for the new integrated and synergised challenges of the 2020’s and 2030’s to keep pace with the clarion call for intense pharma research and innovation to keep pace with the west and the rest.

Although studies have shown that a transition from an ‘offender’ to a ‘non-offender’ self-narrative appears to be associated with desistance, the psychological mechanisms involved in this transition phase have not been explored adequately. This may be because desistance research has primarily been conducted from a criminological perspective, thus social factors (e.g., employment or relationships) have been the focus of enquiry. What little psychologically focused forensic literature there is, is held back by the dominance of the cognitive perspective. Because of this, the role that emotions may play in psychological changes that must take place in order for a person to successfully transition to a non-offender is overlooked. Advances in clinical neuroscience research are increasingly highlighting the significance of emotional processes in psychological functioning. In this thesis I introduce a psychological model of self-narrative by Peter Goldie, who incorporates emotions into his description of the psychological processes that constitute self-narratives. Importantly, Goldie also describes a mechanism of transition from a maladaptive (non-agentic) to an adaptive (agentic) self-narrative. Application of Goldie’s conceptualisation may help to understand how a person who commits offences due to a lack of agency could increase their personal agency and desist. However, as I discuss in chapter one, some persons who commit offences act in a goal-directed manner and thus not due to a lack of personal agency. I will extend Goldie’s conceptualisation of this transition mechanism in order to apply it to the self-narratives of offenders. The adaptation I make to the conceptualisation, which I term, the Emotional Closure Model (ECM), crucially, may explain the transition from offender to non-offender self-narratives for those who both lack agency as well as those who lack motivation to desist. Improved understanding of the psychological mechanisms involved in the transition phase to non-offender self-narratives will have far reaching implications for psychological treatment programmes.

Very low birthweight (VLBW, <1500 g) infants may be predisposed to undernutrition during the nutritional transition phase from parenteral to enteral nutrition. We studied the associations among the length of the transition phase, postnatal macronutrient intake, and growth from birth to term equivalent age in VLBW infants. This retrospective cohort study included 248 VLBW infants born before 32 weeks of gestation and admitted to the Children’s Hospital, Helsinki, Finland during 2005–2013. Daily nutrient intakes were obtained from computerized medication administration records. The length of the transition phase correlated negatively with cumulative energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrate intake at 28 days of age. It also associated negatively with weight and head circumference growth from birth to term equivalent age. For infants with a long transition phase (over 12 d), the estimates (95% CI) for weight and head circumference z-score change from birth to term equivalent age were −0.3 (−0.56, −0.04) and −0.44 (−0.81, −0.07), respectively, in comparison to those with a short transition phase (ad 7 d). For VLBW infants, rapid transition to full enteral feeding might be beneficial. However, if enteral nutrition cannot be advanced, well-planned parenteral nutrition during the transition phase is necessary to promote adequate growth.

With upcoming new smart technologies, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) have to deal with the implementation of industry 4.0 and smart principles. Being known for their constraints in human, technical, and financial resources, SMEs may struggle in the transition phase during introducing industry 4.0. A case study from the Czech Republic should shed some light on the opportunities and issues of the introduction of industry 4.0 in an SME in practice.

The demands of modern information technology exist in virtually every aspect of life, particularly education. Documentation and archiving activities relevant to the preparation of report cards that were originally handwritten in both early and higher institutions, had shifted to digital. However, the transition phase is not without certain challenges, as experienced by the Nurussa'adah Islamic Kindergarten (TK) teachers. Therefore, the objective of this study is to provide a detailed training on the preparation of student report card templates using Microsoft Word application. Based on this study, teachers were able to comprehend the concept of file management in Microsoft Word and the process of filling student report cards, according to the samples of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
