This commentary describes an approach for delivering television content to mobile phones in Canada using over-the-air broadcast signals. Over-the-air television broadcasting to mobile phones is available to our American neighbours but has not been implemented in Canada. We report on a test of mobile TV services, demonstrating access to U.S. signals from Canada. While it is technically feasible to deliver over-the-air mobile broadcasting in Canada, it is likely that vertical integration in the broadcasting and communications sectors is creating barriers to the development of this service. The commentary concludes with some thoughts on how mobile digital television services could be developed for Canadian viewers.

The demand for video services such as live video streaming, video on demand etc., over mobile broadband has been growing rapidly in recent years and is expected to increase in near future. If the mobile networks consider unicast transmissions to every user accessing live video streaming applications then it may lead to inefficient resource utilization and reduced fairness among users. In order to support these high data rate video service users, Long Term Evolution (LTE) network has adopted mobile broadcasting and multicast mechanism for efficient utilization of the available spectrum. Mobile broadcasting is a mechanism that efficiently delivers same content using common resources to many users. The design of resource allocation strategies for broadcast and multicast services is required to achieve high performance in terms of both total service throughput achieved and fairness among all the users. Hence in this paper, Venue Cast User Prioritized Round Robin (VCUPRR) Scheduling Algorithm is proposed to enhance throughput and fairness of venue cast users accessing same venue specific content. The performance of proposed scheduling algorithm is evaluated using QualNet 7.1 network simulator by considering aggregate throughput, average delay and average jitter as performance metrics.

In the last years football clubs games broadcasting rights selling process, internet and mobile phone packages are included too. Internet is a widely accepted and useful mean of communication, something that was immediately recognized by the football authorities and clubs in all countries. Same ways, the gradually increased use of smart phones led to the inclusion of the mobile broadcasting rights in the total selling rights packages. The latest rights auction is of paramount importance, not only because the rights value will break a new record, but also because among the interested parties and bidders are some of the world’s tech giants such as Amazon, Google and Netflix. Live streaming Premier League matches looks to be the next frontier and PL hope tech giants like Amazon, Google, Facebook and Netflix will enter the auction and push the price of the UK package above its current standing of £5.14billion

V LIVE, a Korean real-time mobile broadcasting app, is the focus of this investigation. As research on this service is scarce, the paper concentrates on the evaluation of the service quality and users' acceptance to serve as a first step and basis for following investigations. Data is collected by developing and distributing (non-probabilistic) a survey. The survey aspects derive from the Information Service Evaluation model. Additionally, a qualitative analysis of the objective service quality is done as well. All in all, V LIVE is not only well accepted but highly satisfactory as well. Especially, usefulness and fun are proved as satisfying.
