Constrained application protocol (CoAP) can be used for message delivery in wireless sensor networks. Although CoAP-based proxy mobile internet protocol (PMIP) was proposed for mobility management, it resulted in handover delay and packet loss. Therefore, an enhanced PMIP version 6, with partial bicasting in CoAP-based internet of things (IoT) networks, is proposed. Here, when an IoT device moved into a new network, the corresponding mobile access gateway (MAG) updated the local mobility anchor (LMA) binding. Further, LMA initiated the “partial” bicasting of data packets to the new and the previous MAGs. The data packets were buffered at the new MAG during handover and were forwarded to Mobile Node (MN) after the handover operations. The proposed scheme was compared with the existing scheme, using ns-3 simulations. We demonstrated that the proposed scheme reduced handover delays, packet losses, end-to-end delay, throughput, and energy consumption, compared to the existing scheme.

Ensuring the best quality of smart multimedia services becomes an essential goal for modern enterprises so there is always a need for effective IP mobility smart management schemes in order to fulfill the following two main functions: (I) interconnecting the moving terminals around the extended indoor smart services. In addition, (II) providing session continuity for instant data transfer in real-time and multimedia applications with negligible latency, efficient bandwidth utilization, and improved reliability. In this context, it found out that the Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) over LTE-A network that offers many advanced services for large numbers of users with higher bandwidths, better spectrum efficiency, and lower latency. In GMPLS, there is an elimination of the routing searches and choice of routing protocols on every core LTE-A router also it provides the architecture simplicity and increases the scalability. A comparative assessment of three types of IPv6 mobility management schemes over the LTE-A provided by using various types of multimedia. By using OPNET Simulator 17.5, In accordance with these schemes, it was proven that the IPv6-GMPLS scheme is the best choice for the system's operation, in comparison to the IPv6-MPLS and Mobile IPv6 for all multimedia offerings and on the overall network performance.

Mobile data traffic in the Internet has experienced an exponential growth due to the widespread presence of multimedia capable mobile devices and the deployment of multiple wireless networks. With this continuous development of mobile communications, the achievement of an efficient IP mobility management protocol has revealed as one of the major challenges in next-generation wireless networks. Mobility management solutions are responsible for maintaining the ongoing communications while the user roams among distinct networks. Mobile IPv6 and Proxy Mobile IPv6 are the most representative solutions standardized by the IETF. Recently, the IPv6 mobility support has been newly integrated into the kernel sources and Linux mobility ready kernels are available from versions 3.8.1. In this article, we conduct an analytic and experimental evaluation of Mobile IPv6 and Proxy Mobile IPv6. We develop an analytic model of the signaling and handover latency. Moreover, we present an experimental study these protocols based on their open source implementations. We provide numerical results based on experiments made in real scenarios under different network conditions.
