Abstract Despite the prominent attention that the problem of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) has recently garnered globally, we still know far too little about what is sexual about sexual violence, according to whom, as well as why and how this matters in our efforts to prevent and redress its harms. A growing theoretical, political, legal and ethical imperative to ask questions about the sexual part of sexual violence across both war and peace is nonetheless emerging. This article therefore turns to the accounts of male and female survivors of CRSV at the at the Refugee Law Project (RLP) in Kampala, Uganda. In our reading of their accounts, we explore how the participants understand the possible imbrication of the perpetrator's sexual desire and pleasure with the violence they inflicted, as well as how they deem such intermeshing impossible or deeply problematic in and to the gendered frames that govern how they think about the distinctions between violence and sex, as well as themselves as sexual, social, embodied subjects. Read together, these conflicted and conflicting testimonies offer a vantage point from which to rethink some of the reductive truisms that persist in dominant policy-friendly accounts of wartime sexual violence—namely that such violence is about power and not about ‘sex’. The participants’ accounts thus urge us, as scholars and policy advocates, to resist reducing the multi-layered experiences of victim/survivors of sexual violence to fit into the palatable narratives of victimhood that prevail in humanitarian, juridical and policy spaces.

In this article new approach to a problem of optimum cutting and forecasting of an exit of assortments to and in process rolls of trees is considered. Authors offer and theoretically prove rational cutting of a pilovochny part of a tree by criterion of the maximum volume exit of sawlog in value terms. In work the mathematical model of determination of parameters of a sexual part of a tree on the basis of anallometrichesky method of researches of an object of the labor and optimum cutting and forecasting of an exit of assortments to and is given in process rolls of trees with use of a method exhaustive search and methods of branches and borders.

Sexual assault and other forms of abuse on a young child and its psychological aftermath cascades down through the decades of a person’s life. Apart from shattering the mind and sense of selfhood, it later manifests in what we would consider as the client’s repetitive, reckless, and self-harming behaviour. When working with clients with complex trauma, we soon learn that paradoxically these harmful ways carry meaning and make sense within the context of the child having spent the majority of their time with an abusive, frightening, and unpredictable attachment figure I named “scaregiver” (Badouk Epstein, 2015). Fran, a survivor of familial organised abuse, was diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). She had many parts, some suicidal, some had an eating disorder, some parts were disabled and others very capable. This paper focuses on Fran’s sexual part and consequently her sex addiction. While still in recovery, the secure base and the relational journey which we embarked upon demonstrate how a non-pathologising and non-objectifying approach to the client’s many attachment cries eventually paved the way towards the growth of a sense of safety, intersubjectivity, and the abandonment of her sex addiction.

Aim. To determine the availability of social networks for involvement of clients in the sphere of esthetic surgery. Materials and methods. The data of a social group from The Clinic of Esthetic Surgery “EstMed” in the social network vkontakte were analyzed. Results. The number of subscribers was 533, the main contingent – women aged 25 to 44 years; 48 % of users look through the group posts by means of mobile devices. The participants of this group were not satisfied with the form and dimension of their breast, pendulous abdomen, wrinkles on the face, “ears” on the femurs and form of buttocks; 95 % voted for plastic surgery as an appropriate way to fight with aging. Most subscribers were ready for surgery; 50 % of interrogated persons consider psychologist’s consultation to be necessary. The greatest number of persons consider buttocks, breast and legs to be the most sexual part of the body. One third of the questioned persons have breast size number one, but the majority of interrogated persons consider that men prefer breast size number three. Posts, containing jokes, arouse the greatest interest, information not concerned with the subject matter of the group – the least. Conclusions. When used professionally, social networks can be a strong instrument to involve clients.

The introduction first sets out some preliminary definitions of sex, sexuality, and gender. It then turns from the sexual part of Sexual Identities to the identity part. A great deal of confusion results from failing to distinguish between identity in the sense of a category with which one identifies (categorial identity) and identity in the sense of a set of patterns that characterize one’s cognition, emotion, and behavior (practical identity). The second section gives a brief summary of this difference. The third and fourth sections sketch the relation of the book to social constructionism and queer theory, on the one hand, and evolutionary-cognitive approaches to sex, sexuality, and gender, on the other. The fifth section outlines the value of literature in not only illustrating, but advancing a research program in sex, sexuality, and gender identity. Finally, the introduction provides an overview of the chapters in this volume.

Psychiatrists react to the complexity of human nature in two principal ways; they either take it as justification for their ascientific humanism, or, with unwavering optimism, they accept the challenge and seek scientific explanations. ‘Hormones and behaviour’ has been a favourite hunting ground for such hopefuls, and it is perhaps the sexual part of our natures that we are most ready to attribute to chemistry.

Among the Sporozoa inhabiting the gut of Scolelepis fuliginosa Claparède at Plymouth, I have often found an organism that I believe to be a peculiar coccidian, although certain important stages in the sexual part of the life cycle have hitherto escaped me. If I am right in my opinion, then this sporozoan is a new form, belonging to no genus of coccidian hitherto described: I propose for it the name Dorisiella scolelepidis.
