When developing the country’s made peripheral docking assembly consistent with the International Docking System Standard a task arose concerning reduction of dimensions of the latch mechanisms that ensure the capture. The article describes the mode of operation of these mechanisms. Proposed is a procedure which makes it possible to choose such a layout of their joints in which the links are inside a given area during operation. A uniform LPτ-sequence is used to form various options of the joints layout. A criterion of maximum loads acting on the links is described. It is shown that the dimensions of the existing latch mechanism can be decreased only with an increase of the load-carrying capability of the links. The proposed procedure is part of a software tool computerizing the design of a new latch mechanism. Key words: spacecraft docking, peripheral docking assembly, latch mechanism, capture, LPτ-sequence.

Photoelasticity is a whole field experimental technique for the measurement and visualizing of the stress and strains in the loaded members. This work is intended to create a unique procedure that allows the use of a computer aided technique in the evaluation of the measurement results. The specimens of the thin annular disk, the thin disk and the shaped beam were tested. The PATRAN program is used for the finite element solution of stress analysis in the investigated specimens. The excellent agreement is established between the results of experimental technique based on the created computer procedure and the results of numerical computations.

A space grid method, based on image processing technology, was proposed to evaluate asphalt mixture segregation, which used the ratio of statistical data variance and its square of mathematical expectation to describe material uniformity by statistics of distribution of particles on space grid. Computer procedure was developed and some experiments are made. The results indicate that this method is simple and can be used to evaluate asphalt mixture uniformity quantitatively with a good adaptability.

The low-temperature thermodynamics of a one-dimensional electron gas on a disordered lattice, which comes to existence when the inter-electron distances exceed noticeably the inter-site ones, has been studied. An efficient computer procedure, based on the presentation of the partition function as a product of random transfer-matrixes, has been developed for calculations of thermodynamic characteristics of the system under consideration. The lattice structures were varied from completely chaotic up to the strictly regular one. It has been established that for any degree of disorder the entropy and heat capacity of the system tend to zero linearly as the temperature is reduced. The conclusion about the gapless character of the elementary excitations spectrum has been made. An instability of one-dimensional electron gas on a disordered lattice has been revealed: under conditions of vanishingly small disordering of the lattice, the long-range order in the systems under consideration is broken by frustrations that are one-dimensional analogues of the frustrations in two- and three-dimensional spin glasses.

This paper describes a software package designed to optimize the economic and environmental performance of industrial cogeneration plants. The optimization is through a procedure, which optimizes the load allocation between the plant components. The computer procedure is capable of recognizing equipment status and establishes the optimum load allocation between the plant components minimizing an objective function. The objective function is related to the economic and environmental models of the plant components and to the plant boundary conditions. Two prototypes were realized based on two real cogeneration plant. The paper discusses the general modular description of the components and block diagrams of the systems. The model calibrations and load allocations are analyzed and discussed.
