Building Bridges: The Time Travel method for Learning and Community building

This article presents the Time Travel method, an educational method that uses local heritage to reflect on contemporary issues. The goal is to promote learning, social cohesion and contribute to community building. The Time Travel method started in Kalmar, Sweden in the mid-80s and has spread to more than 20 countries around the world. Target groups are schools and local communities. The definition, principles and the three phases (process, event, follow-up) of the Time Travel method are here explained. Examples of Time Travel programs in South Africa, Kenya and Sweden are presented in an extensive way, and the effect on schools and local communities. Finally, achievements and challenges are discussed and some ideas on how to take the Time Travel method and the organization Bridging Ages into the future, also in South America.Resumo: Este artigo apresenta o método Viagem no Tempo, um método educacional que utiliza o patrimônio local para refletir sobre questões contemporâneas. O objetivo é promover a aprendizagem, a coesão social e contribuir para a construção comunitária. O método de Viagem no Tempo começou em Kalmar, Suécia, em meados dos anos 80 e se espalhou para mais de 20 países ao redor do mundo. Os grupos-alvo são escolas e comunidades locais. A definição, os princípios e as três fases (processo, evento, acompanhamento) do método de viagem no tempo são explicados aqui. Exemplos de programações de viagens no tempo na África do Sul, Quênia e Suécia são apresentados de forma extensa e o efeito nas escolas e comunidades locais. Por fim, os resultados e desafios são discutidos e algumas ideias de como levar o método Viagem no Tempo e a organização Bridging Ages para o futuro, também na América do Sul.

Cultural heritage building up future thinking

Qual é o papel do patrimônio cultural na construção de futuros? Como a cátedra da Unesco pode fornecer ferramentas para pensar e fazer futuros criativos? E como a arqueologia se relaciona com isso? Esta entrevista desenvolve o conceito de patrimônios futuros e chama a atenção do “setor do patrimônio” para ampliar a interdisciplinaridade e o engajamento de colaborações de mente aberta com parceiros fora da academia e da indústria, por exemplo. Aqui, Dr. Cornelius Holtorf, arqueólogo, Professor de Arqueologia na Linnaeus University, Diretor da Escola de Pós-Graduação em Arqueologia de Contrato (GRASCA) e Cátedra Unesco em Patrimônios Futuros na Linnaeus University, fala sobre seus projetos / ideias em andamento e comentários sobre o impacto do turismo e covid-19 ao patrimônio cultural, futuro do patrimônio e alfabetização em futuro. Abstract: What is the role of cultural heritage in constructing futures? How can a UNESCO Chair provide tools for creative futures thinking and future-making? And how does archaeology relate to that? This interview develops the concept of heritage futures and calls the attention of the “heritage sector” to broad interdisciplinarity and open-minded collaborations with partners outside of academia and industry, among others. Here, Dr. Cornelius Holtorf, archaeologist, Professor of Archaeology, Director of the Graduate School in Contract Archaeology (GRASCA) and UNESCO Chair on Heritage Futures at Linnaeus University talks about his ongoing projects/ideas and comments on the impact of tourism and covid-19 on cultural heritage, heritage futures and future literacy.

As arqueologias de São Braz do Piauí: apontamentos iniciais sobre as narrativas e usos dos bens arqueológicos no presente

Nesse artigo, buscaremos refletir sobre os trânsitos dos bens arqueológicos nas paisagens do presente. Nosso interesse com a empreitada será o de explicitar algumas formas de trabalho com esses materiais, olhando atentamente para os seus usos e intepretações nem sempre autorizados. Desse modo, trazemos para discussão alguns contextos do município de São Braz do Piauí, situado no Corredor Ecológico que separa os parques nacionais Serra da Capivara e Serra das Confusões. No local, são frequentes os achados de cerâmicas e líticos, principalmente urnas funerárias, efetuados pela população em suas residências e vias públicas. Por meio de uma arqueologia pública do presente, procuramos acompanhar as narrativas produzidas sobre esses engajamentos, admitindo as possibilidades de se relacionarem com a operacionalização de outras arqueologias. Abstract: In this article, we will seek to reflect on the transit of archaeological objects in the social landscapes of the present. Our interest in the project will be to highlight some ways of working with these materials, looking carefully at their uses and interpretations that are not always authorized. Thus, we bring to discussion some contexts of the city of São Braz do Piauí, located in the Corredor Ecológico that separates the national parks Serra da Capivara and Serra das Confusões. On the scene, the findings of ceramics and lithics are frequent, mainly funerary pottery, made by the population in their homes and public roads. Through a public archeology of the present, we seek to follow the narratives produced about these engagements, admitting the possibilities of relating to the operationalization of other archeologies.

“BEJAÇÃO” : patrimônio, fé e gratidão em uma festa afrocatólica na comunidade quilombola de Jurussaca, Tracuateua-PA.

A Comunidade Quilombola de Jurussaca no município de Tracuateua/Pará, abriga todos os anos na segunda quinzena de outubro, uma diversidade de pessoas que chegam para comemorar a Festa de Todos os Santos. Junto aos santos e a policromia de fitas envoltas em seus pés, os devotos materializam a fé e a gratidão aos santos na “bejação” de suas fitas, ditas sagradas. Pela ocasião da festa, dita afrocatólica, percebe-se uma pluralidade cultural e religiosa que vai além da materialidade, é a imaterialidade do patrimônio religioso na circularidade dos santos que “recebem” os filhos e amigos para agradecer as promessas alcançadas ou pedir proteção, entre outros apelos que se ouve em festas de catolicismo popular, espalhadas pela Amazônia. Abstract: The Quilombola Community of Jurussaca in the municipality of Tracuateua/Pará, is home every year in the second half of October, a diversity of people who come to celebrate the Feast of all Saints. Together with the Saints and the polychromy of ribbons snathed on their feet, devotes materialize Faith and gratitude to saints in the “beading” of their tapes, so called sacred. On the occasion on the feast, só called Afro-Catholic, a cultural and religious plurality is perceived that goes beyond materiality, is the immateriality of religious heritage in the circularity of saints who “receive” children and friends to thank the promises achieved or ask for protection, among other appeals that aree heard t popular Catholicism festivals, spread across the Amazônia.

Patrimônio Aplicado e Estudos de Patrimônio Crítico: engajando a sociedade para sustentabilidade e Patrimônios Futuros - Applied Heritage and Critical Heritage Studies engaging society to sustainability and Heritage Futures

O presente dossiê tem como objetivo engajando profissionais e a sociedade para sustentabilidade e Patrimônios Futuros. Atividades que refletem sobre museus, patrimônio sensível, educação patrimonial, turismo, arqueologia contemporânea e métodos fazem parte desta edição Cadernos do LEPAARQ, Revista do Laboratório de Ensino e Pesquisa em Antropologia e Arqueologia da Universidade Federal de Pelotas (LEPAARQ-UFPEL). O objetivo aqui é apresentar como museus e atividades internacionais lidam com patrimônio aplicado em diversos contextos e como suas propostas de ações pedagógicas/museológicas podem ser orientadas para o futuro. Para além do impacto da covid-19 no patrimônio cultural (Saladino Muniz, 2020), o dossiê visa dialogar com perspectivas da arqueologia no contemporâneo (Gonzalez-Ruibal, 2006; Hamilakis, 2018; McAtackney McGuire, 2020) abordando engajamento para futuro global considerando o papel do patrimônio cultural (Harrison et al 2020, Holtorf Högberg, 2020), visões desde a América Latina (Muniz Almansa-Sánchez, 2020), interpretações dos patrimônios (Rampim et al 2020) e métodos educacionais (Petersson Holtorf, 2016) no contexto do patrimônio aplicado e por uma saúde planetária (Horton et. Al. 2014). The present special issue aims to engage professionals and society for sustainability and heritage futures. Activities that reflect on museums, sensitive heritage, heritage education, tourism, contemporary archaeology and methods are part of this edition of Cadernos do LEPAARQ - Journal of the Laboratory of Teaching and Research in Anthropology and Archaeology of the Federal University of Pelotas (LEPAARQ-UFPEL). The objective here is to present how museums and international activities deal with applied heritage in different contexts and how their proposals for pedagogical / museological actions can be oriented towards the future. In addition to the impact of covid-19 on cultural heritage (Saladino Muniz, 2020), the special issue aims to dialogue with perspectives on contemporary archaeology (Gonzalez-Ruibal, 2006; Hamilakis, 2018; McAtackney McGuire, 2020), addressing engagement for global futures considering the role of cultural heritage (Harrison et al 2020, Holtorf Högberg, 2020), visions from Latin America (Muniz Almansa-Sánchez, 2020), interpretations of heritage (Rampim et al 2020), contexts of segregation and educational methods (Petersson Holtorf, 2016) in the context of applied heritage and for planetary health (Horton et. Al. 2014).

Educação para o Turismo em Gramado: Patrimônios Culturais e Modos de Ser Gramadense

Este estudo analisa as epistemologias e pedagogias disseminadas pela disciplina Educação para o Turismo no currículo do Ensino Fundamental das Escolas Municipais da cidade de Gramado. Pretende-se investigar como a disciplina Educação para o Turismo tem representado a cidade de Gramado e seus patrimônios culturais, materiais e imateriais, examinando as estratégias representacionais acionadas nos Cursos de Capacitação Docente para a educação em turismo na cidade de Gramado. Em termos teóricos, o estudo se inscreve no Campo dos Estudos Culturais e nas discussões acerca dos Patrimônios Culturais. Neste sentido, o objetivo central da pesquisa é analisar a produção discursiva acerca dos patrimônios culturais da cidade de Gramado e das identidades locais nos enunciados do Curso de Capacitação Docente em Educação para o Turismo e nas entrevistas realizadas com docentes das escolas municipais de Gramado que trabalham com esta disciplina. Busca-se assim, problematizar as noções de uma Gramado intrinsecamente turística e europeia e de uma vocação naturalmente turística de seus moradores. Abstract: This study analyzes the epistemologies and pedagogies disseminated by the subject Tourism Education in the Elementary School curriculum of Municipal Schools in Gramado. It is intended to investigate how the subject Tourism Education has represented the city of Gramado and its cultural, material and immaterial heritage, examining the representational strategies used in the Teacher’s Training Courses for tourism education in Gramado. In theoretical terms, this study is part of the Cultural Studies Field and in the discussions on Cultural Heritage. In this sense, the main objective of this research is to analyze the discursive production on Gramado’s cultural heritage and the local identities in the statements of the Teacher’s Training Course in Tourism Education and in the interviews carried out with teachers who work with this subject in Gramado’s municipal schools. Thus, the aim is to problematize the notions of an intrinsically touristic and European Gramado and of a naturally tourist vocation of its residents.

O tema da “mudança do processo cultural” tem uma presença constante na pesquisa de Colin Renfrew, nas várias áreas de interesse nos quais ele está articulado, da pré-história do Egeu à pré-história britânica, dos trabalhos dedicados à teoria e à metodologia da arqueologia até as contribuições sobre a questão das línguas indo-europeias. Meu objetivo é procurar compreender como esse tema foi desenvolvido, de quais influências foi nutrido, quais resultados produziu, as razões de sua centralidade e, enfim, como ele determinou a identidade do estudioso Renfrew. Abstract: The theme of “change of cultural process” has a constant presence in Colin Renfrew's research, in the various areas of interest in which it is articulated, from Aegean prehistory to British prehistory, from works devoted to theory and methodology of archeology to contributions on the issue of Indo-European languages. My aim is to understand how this theme was developed, what influences it was nurtured, what results it produced, the reasons for its centrality and, finally, how it determined the identity of the scholar Renfrew.
