Gastric bypass surgery with subsequent changes in both bone metabolism and bone density leading to increased fractures and mineral deficiencies are proven concepts. Whether the patient undergoes gastric bypass surgery during maxillofacial healing or has maxillofacial surgery within a year of prior gastric bypass surgery, the effect on bony healing of the maxillofacial region remains to be studied. We provide a case report of failed reconstruction due to significant bone loss and graft resorption in a patient who underwent gastric bypass surgery 4 months after a mandibular reconstruction procedure.

Background Odontogenic inflammatory maxillary cysts constitute pathology for which clinical, radiological and evolutionary aspects are considerably polymorphic. For small cystic lesions non-surgical endodontic treatment is used. Larger lesions, however, have a natural tendency to grow and weaken the bone (as well as an inflammatory risk) may be treated by surgery. Case presentation We present a case report of surgical resection of a large maxillary cyst on a patient who previously had multiple dental extractions until complete edentation. Conclusion Great cystic maxillary lesions are relatively rare. A definitive diagnosis cannot be determined based on the history, clinical and radiographic evaluation. The incidence ranging of the dermoid and epidermoid cysts on the head and neck, from 1.6 to 7.0%, and they represent less than 0.01% of all oral cavity cysts. Histologically, they can be further classified as epidermoid, dermoid or teratoid. We analyzed two rare cases of large epidermoid cysts of the floor of the mouth, with sublingual as well as submental component resembling plunging ranula. Two female patients (age 15 and 16 y. o.), who’s had sublingual and submental swellings of oral floor with breathing and swallowing difficulties. The suspected clinical diagnosis of the sublingual dermoid or epidermoid cysts were supported by the radiological finding after performing ultrasonography (USG), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). On the radiological investigation the differentiation between epidermoid cysts, ranulas, cystic tumours, mucous extravasation phenomena and hygromas sometimes indistinguishable, leading in the determination of internal component differentiation and has pathognomonic signs to differentiate. The lesions were surgically excised using an intraoral approach. Microscopic examinations revealed a dermoid cyst of the epidermoid type. We report a simple and cheap self-designed scale that is a very effective instrument for partial glossectomy and tumor excision in oral cavity. This scale could be placed on the surface of the mucosa to design the adequate and accurate surgical margin with forceps. In addition, this scale can be attached on the surface of the mucosa without holding by the forceps. Its effectiveness and safety were identified for glossectomy, tumor excision in our experience. The purpose of this article is to report an innovative technique for an increase vertical dimension with screwed denture fixation and intravenous sedation for the patients with severe deep bite. Bite raising is essential to maintain a long term stability of occlusion in the case of implant treatment associated with severe deep bite. Generally, a removable denture is used to increase occlusal vertical dimension for the first step of oral rehabilitation in the case of severe deep bite. However, these patients sometimes fail wearing removable denture for increasing vertical dimension, because of severe discomfort. On the other hand, an intravenous sedation is advantage that the patients fall asleep and is completely unaware of the procedure being performed. Therefore combination screwed denture fixation and intravenous sedation allowed to raise occlusal vertical dimension in implant treatment. In conclusion, this combined method using screwed denture and intravenous sedation are the most promising technique for implant treatment to raise the vertical occlusal dimension for the patients with severe deep bite. Sputtered hydroxyapatite coated implant has investigated as an implant with novel surface coating for dental implant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the 10 years clinical outcome regarding marginal bone loss around implants, success rate, survival rate, biological and prosthetic complication and patients subjective satisfaction for the implant with sputtered hydroxyapatite coating in human. Sixteen patients with 30 implants were employed for this study. One-piece, sputtered hydroxyapatite coated implants were placed in premolar and/or molar sites with one or two missing tooth. Ten years after implant placement, the marginal bone level change was evaluated by periapical radiograph. Incidence of peri-implant diseases and prosthetic complications were also addressed. Patient satisfaction was analyzed by Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire. The mean marginal bone loss was 0.74 ± 1.41 mm. Survival and success rates were 96.7% and 86.7% respectively. Three implants (10.0%) in 3 patients (18.8%) were affected by peri-implantitis. Five implants (16.7%) in 4 patients (25%) had chipping of veneering material on prosthesis. One implant (3.3%) in a patient (6.3%) was fractured and removed. Mean score of Oral Health Impact Profile was 41.6 ranged from 3 to 89. Sputtered hydroxyapatite surface showed comparable marginal bone stability in 10 years result. Cleft palate and cleft lip are the most common congenital deformities involving the orofacial region. One of the most important problems with this deformation is difficulties with feeding due to lack of sufficient negative intraoral pressure which prevents regurgitation of food into the nasal cavity. Cleft lip and cleft palate can be surgically treated but repair of the palate is usually delayed until 6 months to 2 years of age. Early repair of the palate may have a negative effect on the growth and development of maxilla due to the resulting scar tissue. This article presents the Prosthodontic management of an infant with a cleft palate through fabricating a feeding plate (palatal obturator). Keywords: Cleft palate, Feeding plate, Palatal obturator
