This thesis explores the ways in which we as humans are alienated by the fundamental social structures of our world and how the novels of Jenny Offill offer a possible remedy. With a specific focus on the psychological and evolutionary aspects of womanhood and motherhood, this text attempts to illustrate the ways in which these novels address the imposing weight of such fundamental structures in the 21st century. Through an analysis of the nuclear family, this thesis examines the debilitating and profound existence of women, and more specifically, mothers. Offill’s novels present a profoundly clear picture of the modern world as it depicts the reality and ramifications of psychoanalytic and evolutionary theory. This work demonstrates how Offill’s texts attempt to remedy the core dissonance of our binary-laden human existence with clarity and realization rather than acceptance of an oversimplified past and a debilitating future.

Pneumocystis is the most serious and common respiratory opportunistic infection after tuberculosis during HIV infection. To describe the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of HIV-infected patients who presented with pneumocystis. Retrospective study of the records of 45 HIV-infected patients followed at the Department of Infectious Diseases of the CHU Mohamed VI and hospitalized for Pneumocystis jirovecii infection between January 2007 and March 2021. Out of 1286 HIV-infected patients followed at the department during the study period, 45 patients (3.5%) had pneumocystis. Pneumocystis was inaugural to HIV infection in 36 cases (80%). The predominance was male in 63% of cases (28 males to 17 females), with an average age of 35.5 years [16-64 years]. The mean TCD4 cell count was 74 cells/mm3 [0- 656 cells/mm3]. The mean LDH level was 874.89 IU/L. The clinical picture was marked by cough in 84% of cases and dyspnea in 64% of cases. The most frequent radiological signs were a diffuse interstitial syndrome in 84.4% of cases on chest X-ray and ground glass appearance in 63% of cases on chest CT. The diagnosis of pneumocystis was confirmed in 16 patients by the detection of Pneumocystis jIrovecii in sputum and BAL. All our patients were treated with Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole combination. Antiretroviral treatment was started in 32 patients, i.e. 71% of the patients, with a favorable evolution in 24 patients, i.e. 53%. Pneumocystis is a serious infection in immunocompromised patients especially PLHIV. In Morocco, it is still frequent during HIV infection and is one of the main causes of death.

Plant species are distributed in different types of habitats, forming different communities driven by different sets of environmental variables. Here, we assessed potential plant communities along an altitudinal gradient and their associations with different environmental drivers in the unexplored Manoor Valley (Lesser Himalaya), Pakistan. We have implemented various ecological techniques and evaluated phytosociological attributes in three randomly selected 50 m-transects within each stand (a total of 133) during different seasons for four years (2015–2018). This phytosociological exploration reported 354 plant species representing 93 different families. The results revealed that the Therophytic life form class dominated the flora, whereas Nanophyll dominated the leaf size spectra. There were a total of twelve plant communities identified, ranging from the lowest elevations to the alpine meadows and cold deserts. The maximum number of species were found in Cedrus–Pinus–Parrotiopsis community (197 species), in the middle altitudinal ranges (2292–3168 m). Our results showed that at high altitudes, species richness was reduced, whereas an increase in soil nutrients was linked to progression in vegetation indicators. We also found different clusters of species with similar habitats. Our study clearly shows how altitudinal variables can cluster different plant communities according to different microclimates. Studies such as ours are paramount to better understanding how environmental factors influence ecological and evolutionary aspects.

This article explores several aspects of the Border Phenomenon, such as philosophical, gnoseological, cultural, historical, and practical. Border aspects are treated in the historical civilization and evolutionary aspects. Based on the border analysis in the historical aspect, the authors came to the conclusion that Border, having undergone a long evolutionary way from the borders of tribal society to those of the modern national state, played an important role in ensuring safe functioning of the society, human life, activity of the state, international community development. In the situation of the present-time globalization process, innovative and digital revolution and formation of a new world order the Border is under pressure of new challenges and threats. In its turn, this requires that the state of develop modern forms and methods of border functioning

Abstract Background Pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma are rare neuroendocrine tumors of the chromaffin tissue, which may produce catecholamines. The aim of our study was to analyze the clinical and para-clinical aspects as well as the therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of pheocromocytomas and paragangliomas based on a series of 40 cases. Methods Our retrospective population-based research study includes 40 patients. Then, a statistical analysis was carried out using the SPSS software (version21). Results Our study involves 40 patients, including 23 women (57, 5%) and 17 men (42,5%). The mean age at the time of the diagnosis was 43.8 ± 16.8 years. The circumstances of the discovery were mainly characterized by adrenal incidentaloma and hypertension. The biological diagnosis was based on the dosage of urinary metanephrines and plasma-free metanephrines in, respectively, 61.5% and 18% of cases. A computerized tomography scan and/or a magnetic resonance imaging scan could help to locate the tumor in 100% of cases. Our series includes 3 cases of bilateral pheochromocytoma, 3 cases of paragangliomas and 1 case of malignant pheochromocytoma, while a hereditary form was retained in 3 patients. In fact, thirty-two patients were operated; cure was clinically labeled in 100% and biologically in 87.5% of patients. Conclusions The main points for improvement that our study has revealed are; a patient follow-up after surgery, which was not always regular, and an insufficient screening for genetic diseases associated with pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas.

Craniopharyngioma is a rare benign epithelial tumor, originating in the pituitary stem or pituitary gland and developing in the sellar and / or suprasellar region. Of embryonic origin, craniopharyngiomas are considered to develop from epithelial remains of Rathke's pouch. It affects children as well as adults. All ages combined, craniopharyngiomas represent between 3 to 4% of intracranial tumors worldwide, or 0.5 to 2 new cases per year and per million inhabitants. In children, they represent 10% of all intracranial tumors with a peak frequency between 7 and 13 years and a predominance of men. Although benign, this tumor remains a serious pathology because of the frequent visual, endocrine, neuro-intellectual sequelae and the risk of recurrence that it entails, involving the visual and vital functional. The management of this pathology is multidisciplinary and involves several modalities such as surgery, radiotherapy and medical treatment of hormonal deficits very often associated. We report in this article three cases of boys aged 9, 10 and 12; treated for symptomatic craniopharyngiomas with a favorable clinical and radiological outcome after partial surgical excision and adjuvant external radiotherapy. The aim of this article is to review the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of these benign tumors of the sellar and / or suprasellar region, with an emphasis on the interest of radiotherapeutic treatment.
