Der mentale Text. Zu den Entstehungsprozessen von Kalevala und Nibelungenlied

Der Beitrag vergleicht die Diskussion der Epengenese des Nibelungenliedes im Spektrum der Theorien Karl Lachmanns und Andreas Heuslers und den so genannten Kalevala-Prozess. Beide Epen werden als semi-oral bzw. traditionsorientiert betrachtet. Den Ausgangspunkt der Untersuchung bilden die Prolegomena ad Homerum Friedrich August Wolfs von 1795 und die daraus entstandene Homerische Frage. Die Auseinandersetzung mit Wolf beeinflusste die Nibelungenforschung nachhaltig und stimulierte den so genannten Kalevala-Prozess in entscheidender Weise. Für die Entstehung des Kalevala sind auch die zeitgenössische Ossian-Debatte und Herders Einflüsse zu berücksichtigen. Die Dokumentation der mündlichen finno-karelischen Sängertradition – der Dichtung hinter dem Kalevala – sowie des Epenprozesses des Kalevala ermöglicht die Betrachtung der Epenentstehung aus der traditionalistischen und der individualistischen Perspektive, d. h. der Überlieferungsprozesse, Variationsbildung und des Sänger-Individuums. Das Konzept des „mentalen Textes“ von Lauri Honko wird daran anknüpfend mit aktuellen Ansätzen der Nibelungenüberlieferung im semi-oralen bzw. traditionsorientierten Bereich verglichen.

Prensa inglesa en español durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX

Este trabajo pretende la identificación, selección y catalogación de los artículos lingüísticos publicados en la prensa inglesa en español por un grupo de exiliados españoles e hispanoamericanos que, durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX, encuentran en la actividad periodística una fuente de ingresos para satisfacer sus necesidades de sustento en el destierro. La sistematización de estas fuentes textuales permitirá el estudio posterior de toda esta producción sobre lingüística y lengua española, desconocida en su mayoría para la comunidad científica, y servirá, entre otras cuestiones para a) examinar la importancia de la prensa inglesa como medio de difusión de la cultura hispánica, b) ahondar en la facetas filológica de estos intelectuales emigrados, y c) analizar el valor de estas contribuciones para la configuración del pensamiento lingüístico hispánico de la época.

Scriptures Fit for a King

This paper examines the use of translational doublets (multiple translations of a single expression presented together in a translated text) in the revised text of the Later Version of the Wycliffite Bible found in Oxford University MS. Bodley 277 (1420s or 1430s). The manuscript in question contains a large number of doublets found in no other copy of the Wycliffite Bible, and these appear to be the contributions of an independent revisor. The various functions that doublets have in this text are discussed, and it is argued that, in his use of doublets, the revisor focused primarily on clarifying or explaining details of the text’s literal, immediate meaning, especially in Old Testament historical books. It is suggested, moreover, that a large proportion of the revisor’s doublets reflect the interests of an aristocratic or royal audience, in line with the probable origin of MS. Bodley 277 (which was once owned by King Henry VI). Special attention is paid to the apocryphal 3 Ezra, for which Bodley 277 is the only copy of the Wycliffite Bible to include translational doublets and which appears in no other manuscript of the Later Version.

Openings and closings in tourist offices in Belgium, France and the Netherlands.

This paper deals with openings and closings in 400 service encounters in tourist offices situated in Belgium’s two main language communities, Flanders and Wallonia, in the north of France and the south of the Netherlands. On the basis of a detailed, bottom-up quantitative analysis of the structural properties of the openings and closings, we draw part of the interactional profiles of the tourist office encounters. Differences between the four regions are shown to be related to the degree of volubility and involvement of the interactants and to the degree of ritualisation and efficiency of the opening and the closing section.
